Ibanez BTB805MS 5-string Bass Guitar - Transparent Gray Flat Reviews

5-string Bass Guitar with Poplar/Ash Top, Okoume Body, 5-piece Maple/Walnut Neck, Panga Panga Fingerboard, and 2 Humbucking Pickups - Transparent Gray Flat

A bass shouldn’t just be a clunky old axe that you sling over your shoulder before hitting the stage or the studio. Instead, your bass of choice should be an inspiring instrument, like the Ibanez BTB805MS. It comes with an poplar burl/ash top that immediately grabs the eyes of onlookers. This 5-string, neck-through bass offers up exceptionally smooth playability, courtesy of its multi-scale frets and ergonomic design. The BTB805MS has two T1 humbucking pickups that serve up velvety tone with well-behaved lows and mids that punch like Mike Tyson. You can sculpt your tone to perfection with the 3-band EQ and a 3-way mid frequency switch. There’s also an EQ bypass switch with a passive tone control — a feature that bassists at Sweetwater find especially useful. The bottom line? The Ibanez BTB805MS offers boutique features and design elements at a fraction of the price!

Beware of fret sprout

By Dan from Arizona on February 7, 2024 Music Background: Professional musician - metal, hardcore, grind

Overall an amazing instrument, the frets were just a bit rough. A 15 dollar fret file and a little bit of care will set you straight.

Balance is phenomenal, top is beautiful. I've got mine tuned to A standard with payson stainless steel strings. Absolutely rips on heavy music. I appreciate any guitar over $1000 coming with a case now a days.

I've been playing a lot of knocked loose and Lorna shore covers on this.

Excellent Bass

Such a fun bass to play. Came perfect out the box, no work needed to be done. Hardcase is a nice plus. Sounds great and feels great. Slim neck and nicely spaced strings make for easy and slick playing. The fan frets help the wrist to be a bit more comfortable on the 37¨ fretboard and is super easy maneuver. Pickups make great tone and can be very versitile depending on play style. Great for all styles. Very nice instrument!

Amazing sound and playability without breaking the bank.

Sweetwater is amazing and shipped this awesome bass super fast. My sales engineer Jake Hersha was awesome and I wouldn't buy anywhere else because of him. The BTB805MS is amazing. Tons of sound options with the Ibanez pickups and built in pre-amp. This bass being multi scale takes a little time to get used to but nothing that a couple of days of playing couldn't fix. The only downside I've found is the limited options for strings since string 5 is a 38" scale. Definitely not a deal breaker. This bass plays amazingly. Long sustain, great tone and looks awesome. Definitely one of my favorite basses so far.

Absolute Beast

By KP from Missoula, MT on November 16, 2022 Music Background: Guitarist/hobbyist recording engineer

This bass is a monster. Both in appearance, size, and sound. I'm a guitar player who plays extended range guitars normally but have dabbled in bass a fair amount over the years. I took a bit of a risk on this bass without playing it first, given how different it is compared to what I'm comfortable with. This thing is a different animal compared to any of the other basses I own (different Ibanez 5 string and a Lakland 4 string). It's my first multi-scale anything and it is definitely a unique experience. After a few hours of playing I'm already getting used to it. The 37" scale on the bass side definitely keeps the low B rock solid. The craftsmanship is dead on and the wood used is really attractive. Electronic controls are useful and pickups sound great. All in all, jumping around on the neck of this thing is a workout for my left hand but I would absolutely still buy it after experiencing it in person.

I'm in love....

This bass! So amazing. It was worth the 7 month supply chain wait. I think it may be almost surgically attached for quite awhile.
