Guild Baritone Acoustic

By Jason from Texas on April 10, 2024 Music Background: All kinds of genres bass player at heart

Very nice guitar . I did happen to get lucky and it was ready to play right out of the box so I am very pleased with the guitar the only thing is I should of got a case but that's my fault so I have no complaints. The guitar Sounds great unplugged and plugging it in takes it to another level it's very crisp and clean and sounds fantastic!! So if you are looking to add a baritone to your toolbox that won't break the bank I suggest giving the Guild a try . And as always I have to give thanks to Sweetwater for everything and of course my sales rep Jeff Bohan for always making my purchases pleasant and hassle free.

Fantastic guitar- definitely needs professional set up

Great guitar! Exactly what I wanted, but it was desperately in need of a set up once I received it.

Great guitar

By Barb Maxey on December 7, 2022 Music Background: Professional

I purchased this baritone guitar a couple weeks ago. The neck is easy to play (Feels very much like the Taylors I play 98% of time.) and the sound is full. Was hesitant because of reviews on the electronics but it sounds great plugged in. Exceptional guitar for the $$$. (I have been playing over 50 years; professionally over 35 years).

Versitile

By Billy from Newport, Ar. on October 21, 2022 Music Background: Mid-level

This guitar can be played either as a baritone or in a standard e tuning simply move the e string which is number five up to number six then move all the other strings up one notch. Then a b string from a standard guitar and tune it for your high e number one string. Then, you have both an acoustic jumbo and a baritone guitar. When you would like to play it as a baritone simply move the strings back into their original positions. Of course, you can only do this a limited amount of times.

Finally!

I have been eying acoustic baritones for several years after borrowing a luthier-made one awhile back. I've been a fan of Guild instruments for as long as I can remember, but for some reason I've never owned one. I was on the Sweetwater site looking at pedals, and I saw a store demo of this was for sale for a good price. I'm so happy I finally ordered it. It plays and sounds so sweet!

Excellent value and lots of fun

By Alan C. from Washington State on November 7, 2021 Music Background: Guitar player for 55 years and not slowing down

I view a baritone guitar as an extra, for a fun change of pace or for specific songs. It's also useful for those of us who are not tenors and need to transpose. This guitar is resonant, easy to play, and very well crafted. Time flies when I play it. Its arched back compensates for the fact that the back is not solid wood, and the jumbo size makes it sing up and down the fretboard. I had no trouble getting used to the longer scale (I also play guitars with 25.5 and 24.75 inch scales) or the larger body. I bought this guitar from Sweetwater several months ago and waited until I had experience with it before writing this review. I have guitars that cost a whole lot more; in comparison, this guitar is worth every penny, and then some. Guild is doing good work these days. And Sweetwater's service is outstanding as always. Thanks Darius!

Great Guitar, Poor Setup!

By Dave from Oceanside, California on August 18, 2023 Music Background: Semi Pro Guitarist

The Guild BT-240E is a beautiful instrument, we'll made with the huge sound you would expect from a jumbo baritone guitar. The set up however was disappointing! As many have said in other reviews, without a good set up the guitar is difficult to play. The action on my example was so high, that fretting at the twelfth fret would make the note go sharp. I've been playing guitar for over fifty years, and prefer a medium action, my Taylor's came perfectly set up, but they cost three times the price of the Guild! After a professional set up, I'm still less than half the price of a Taylor, and I have an excellent guitar I'll enjoy for years to come! Buy it! But expect to have it set up to your liking!

Great guitar, but has its issues

By Wes on November 23, 2021

I got this guitar about a week ago, and when I unboxed it I noticed the lower two string pegs sticking up higher than the others. So I loosened the strings to try to reset the pegs. It's obvious they were just jammed in there incorrectly because those things didn't budge. One I finally got the pegs out (broke one in the process) I couldn't get the strings to seat correctly back into the bridge. Turns out those two lowest strings don't fit correctly in the provided traditional (non-baritone friendly) string pegs. I got my luthier to widen the string slots on the pegs with a nut filer, and only then was I able to get the strings back into the guitar to be able to play it.

As could be expected the "set up" on the guitar out of the box is pretty bad. I had to sand the saddle down and tweak the neck considerably to make the guitar playable past open position and to have any chance of playing it finger style.

Now that I'm past a fairly frustrating initiation with the guitar it finally functions as it should. The tuners have a little bit of a hard time accommodating the bigger strings and staying in tune. I'm still giving it 4 stars tho because the electronics, sound, and price still make it worth getting.
