Like the sound, but too loose on the cork

By Daniel U. from Arvada, CO

I've been playing on a Selmer Concept mouthpiece, which I like, but was looking for something that would sound brighter and blow more freely. The Burnin 6* met my expectations and I love the sound and ease of play.

However, why can't mouthpiece manufactures standardize on their diameters??!! The Concept fits snuggly, and so has compressed my cork. My new Burnin is so loose that it leaks air. I would like to be able to change back and forth, but it appears I will need to pick one and stick with it.

BetterSax does it AGAIN!

By Will from USA
Music Background: 30+ years experience

I went into this purchase with high expectations, since I've been playing on the alto & tenor versions of the Burnin mouthpiece for a couple years. This one didn't disappoint. I've already listed my old mouthpiece for sale. Full sound with a nice amount a brilliance on the top end…EASY to play. I love these mouthpieces.

Top Notch!

By David B. from ARLINGTON, WA

I'm giving this superb mouthpiece 5 Stars. I play mostly tenor and alto, but in the last few years have spent plenty of practice time with the soprano. I've been playing a Kessler HR 5 mouthpiece, tip opening 0.062", and was quite happy with it for jazz/pop/blues, paired with Legere Signature or American Cut 2.25 strength reeds. When I received the Burnin' 6*, tip opening 0.065", I first warmed up with the Kessler piece for about 15 minutes, and then switched to the Burnin'. Here are my observations: 1. I was immediately shocked by how much more open, free-blowing and just easier to play it was in comparison. Even though the tip openings were practically identical, the Burnin' blew more like an alto! 2. Regarding response and intonation, every note sounded instantly and effortlessly, and, also in comparison, there was way less need for embouchure and voicing adjustment to stay in tune and have good tone all up and down the full range. 3. The lowest notes all popped right out at full tone, and it was easy to whisper the subtone confidently all the way down to Bb. 4. I don't do altissimo on soprano, but the keyed high F# and G sounded with greater reliability and consistency than I was used to. 5. The sound quality is also really nice for me. It's punchy and bright enough at full volume, but warm (the opposite of shrill) overall. 6. Lastly, and for me most notably, this new mouthpiece provided me with a considerably expanded dynamic range, especially for pianissimo. With the Kessler, I could only get quiet to a certain point before all sound stopped; it was impossible to taper off all the way. With the Burnin', I can reduce the air stream to almost nothing and still maintain a barely perceptible audible note. ***** Oh, I like it a LOT.

By Sweetwater Customer

Burnin' blends the best of Jody Jazz HR* and SuperJet. Easy & even blowing from low Bb all the way to altissimo.

Jay Metcalf and JodyJazz do it again!!

By Scott D. from MUNCIE, IN

Pleasantly surprised by the tone, power and ease of playability of this piece, which, when I first looked it over, appeared to be a copy inside and out of the JodyJazz HR☆ I had been using which is NOT a bad thing at all, but I didn't want two of the same thing. It is its own mouthpiece, nearly the same power and tone of a metal piece with the comfort of hard rubber with an attractive matte finish and very comfortable feeling. A winner and a keeper!!!
