Perfect for jazz
I use this head on both sides of my bass drum, with a felt strip on the batter head for muffling, no port hole or anything inside the drum. With the batter tuned up high and the batter slightly lower, the sound is absolutely perfect for jazz. Round, melodic, and with plenty of low end. Tune the reso even lower to get a fat, short thud that still has plenty of body and tone. Absolutely love this head combo. You'll probably want a PS3/EMAD or something similar if you're going for a modern studio kick sound, but if you're after old school tone, this head is the way!
