Perfect protection

By HC from Poulsbo, WA on March 22, 2024 Music Background: Drumming off and on for 50+ years.

Bought one of these a few months back when I bought my new set. Cut my own hole in the head and applied this. Have read the reviews about difficulties installing this. Just have to say mine went together as advertised. Quick and easy. It looks professional and provides great protection against tears. Just got a new custom art head and plan on using this product again. Definitely recommend!

Great product. Installation a little tricky.

5 stars - 1/2 for installation.

A lot of reviews complain about the installation of this product. It is a little tricky. They key to getting the back to snap onto the front is to take something round with a similar diameter and press really hard on the back so the whole circle is being pressed evenly. It will snap into place.

Other than that, it's a great product. Looks great and good quality protection of my kick drum port hole.

I would buy it again and plan to when I need to install on other heads.

very nice ring but must be installed properly

By Sweetwater Customer on January 20, 2017 Music Background: experianced drummer

This port hole ring is well made and looks really nice. The front section also has a portion that extrudes thru the middle of the hole in which the back section goes over creating a complete unit and solid protection against tearing. It is a little tricky to get the back section to install properly because of the tight fit. The back section MUST be pushed down around the front section completely so that the adhesive side of the back ring makes flush contact with the head. If it doesn't the back piece will pop off after just a few min of playing. The best way to achieve this is after installing the front piece flip the head over, remove the adhesive cover of the back piece and press it down firmly with your fingers. Then take a short wide blade flat screwdriver and carefully but firmly press the ring down until you can see that it is making flush contact with the head. I suggest letting it cure for a day before use.

Back Piece Did Not Fit

By Sweetwater Customer on May 11, 2020

The front piece went in my 4" hole perfectly. The adhesive was very strong and I have not had any issues with that. The back piece, however, literally did not fit over the front piece when I flipped the head over. I had two people applying extreme force around the thing and it would NOT fit flush over the front end. It was definitely made too small. Hopefully, this won't result in the front end flying off, but it's too soon to tell. You are better off buying a head with a preinstalled porthole, but this might do the trick if you're lucky and very skilled with installing it.

Doesn't Snap Very Well

By Jason from Deer Park, TX on August 4, 2020 Music Background: Drummer for 32 years

First, I used their bass drum hole cutter to cut the hole, which got off track when the hole got about half way cut, causing the hole to get off track a little. I then traced and cut the hole as good as I could. I then purchased this product to help cover up the little inconsistencies of the hole. It would have looked good if the pieces snapped together easy. I used their recommendation of using a flat head, which the product states be careful so the blade doesn't slip and puncture the bass drum. I'm a pretty big guy and used a lot of force and could not get the two to snap together. I eventually had to apply so much pressure, then inevitable happened and it slipped. The head didn't get punctured, but it did dent it. Not good for a brand new drum head.
