Remo R-Series Fiberskyn Bongo Head - 8.5 inch Reviews

8.5" Synthetic Bongo Drumhead

Remo's Fiberskyn bongo heads sound and feel so good that even die-hard rawhide users are making the switch. Why? Higher tunings, better pitch stability, and weather resistance, just to name a few reasons. Even if you use traditional heads in the studio, they're sure to stretch out and crack when exposed to the elements. So if you're a live player, Remo Fiberskyn bongo heads will get you close to your studio tone - and you may find, exceed it - with far better road dependability. Sweetwater percussionists got to compare these heads in-house against some cowhide heads, and we've got to say, the Remo Fiberskyn bongo heads didn't leave us wanting.

Good sound

By Rick C. from Fort Wayne, Indiana
Music Background: Auxiliary percussionist

I got these to replace the original LP Matador heads which were still in good condition. The sound is clearer or warmer than the original skins. I use it along three congas and the extra pitch is welcomed.

Very tight fit on my LP Galaxy bongos

By Bill R.
Music Background: Gigging Musician

This is the head recommended for the LP Galaxy bongos according to Remo's web site. That said, I really struggled to fit this on my hembra drum. It took a lot of work to coax it on to where it mated with the bearing edge of the drum. Also, the hoop is much thicker than on an LP head, so the rim sits very high on the drum - not so high as to interfere with playing, but you won't see the bottom of the tuning rods come through the tuning nuts. So, although you can fit it, be prepared to work it. Ultimately, I found the best way to get it on was to turn the drum upside down, place it on a flat surface, and push the shell down onto the rim.

The upside to all this is that once you do get it fitted, it sounds fantastic - much more expressive than the LP hide head and also you can get a greater variation of timbres. I love the look and feel of these heads.

In a nutshell, I just wish there was an 8 5/8" option to properly match the LPs, but the struggle it worth it for the enhanced playability and musicality.
