Exactly what I've been looking for.
I just received this today. It is absolutely amazing. I cannot get a bad sound out of it. Just a variety of interesting sounds. I love everything about it. There are no cons to this pedal. I would highly highly recommend this pedal to anyone. Boss knocked it out of the park on this one.
10 Stars!
This is the best bass compressor pedal out there due to its multiband processor! Clear as a bell with simple controls, and you get all of the benefits of full compression but without any tone killing squash! Perfect for using it before an interface or amp! Just do yourself a favor and buy it, you can't go wrong here! This pedal sounds absolutely incredible and I'll never play again without it! Also quality electronics made in Malaysia (not China).
Pretty Easy to use
Frankly, the only compressor I understood. But, I am an idiot, so I've got that going for me.
Nice pedal
I haven't gigged with it yet, but I like it so far. Nice transparent compression, sits well in my home setup. Using it mostly with my fretless basses.
As Good As A Rackmount
Soft, hard knee compression at your fingertips. Also can be used as a volume boost. You can see the amount of compression being applied with the meter. Sturdy metal box, Boss made a good one here.
Boss.....says it all.
This unit is easy to use, unlike most compressors. It tightens and fattens the sound, without the squashed effect. I have many effects, but this and a tuner are the only 2 devices that I use all the time. It makes a huge difference in the feel / sound.
Fantastic piece of gear
Historically, I've been anti comp for two reasons: one, I thought they were a bit of a cheat and didn't encourage proper technique. Two, I was confused by some of them with a bunch of controls that I couldn't hear any difference when tweaked...
Now that I'm over myself, this is n awesome item to have on your board. It's great to run if you slap, run heavy distortion, running a bunch of effects into it, and mellows out some of my more crazy effects that get out of hand, like ambient reverbs and self-oscillating analog delays. Boss makes great stuff, and this is no exception.
Great compressor
Very good clean and musical compression worth every penny . I have owned several pedal compressors and this one is the best .
On stage bass equipment
This is a great great pedal
Hands down the best pedal compressor
Like another reviewer said...hard to get a bad sound and comparable to high end units. I even used it recently to record direct to DAW and the results were great! It was better than my rack units! I was floored....LIVE? I don't ever turn it off. Recently we were playing and I noticed how terribly peaky my bass sounded...and it didn't sound right. I looked down and noticed I must have inadvertently stepped on it and turned it off when I turned another adjacent pedal on or off. One press back on...back to killer tone! I won't play a show without it....ever.
Boss BC-`X
This is the lowest noise compressors that I have ever owned. Threshold and release levels a comparable to high end studio compressors. Levels controls can be set precisely for seamless cut over when engaged. (actually I never turn it off) Higher levels give you infinite control for just the right amount of boost.
everything I needed
I have only gigged it once and have only had it a week. It met I two biggest criteria. No added color and easy to dial in. I bought it on the way to the gig (yes, I know I'm insane). Plugged in in and with a little tweaking, I had what I wanted. It doesn't change your tone and that's huge for me. The little guy looks like it's built like a tank. I fully expect to get years of use from it.
BOSS BC-1X: Unparalleled Compression
As an experienced electric bassist, I have experimented with a variety of compressor pedals from renowned brands such as MXR, Strymon, BBE, Origin Effects, Becos, TC Electronic, Keely, and others. I tested them thoroughly in rehearsals, live performances, and recording sessions. However, I found that each pedal had its limitations - some produced excessive noise, while others were too subtle, too squashed, too fiddly, or did not blend well with other effects.
Nevertheless, everything changed when I acquired the BOSS BC-1X compressor pedal. This particular pedal boasts unparalleled qualities, including nearly noiseless operation, transparency, durability, and, most importantly, an easy-to-use interface. As I often perform using in-ear monitors (IEMs) without an amplifier and direct to the PA, having a pedal with a low noise floor is crucial, and the BOSS pedal delivers impeccably. With the BOSS comp, a tuner, and a quality DI (in my case, the MXR M80), I have everything I need for most musical scenarios.
One minor issue I had with the BOSS pedal was the difficulty in reading the knobs on a dimly lit stage. I ended up replacing some knobs with higher-contrast ones. However, apart from this small inconvenience, I believe the BOSS BC-1X compressor pedal is the best available, and I have tried many.
Amazingly Smooth - Studio Style Compression
I was between the BOSS BC-1X and the MXR M87. Two other bass players I know have the MXR unit and I've been able to borrow it multiple times over the years. I was about 5 videos deep in the youtube black-hole when I found a great video comparing the two. I picked up the BOSS BC-1X at my local shop and never put it down. I can feel the multiband working and molding a more even, studio-like, bass tone over other compressors. I would recommend this as a great starting point to anyone looking for smooth and dialed in bass compression. The MXR is really good.... but The BOSS is better
Infamous in Dayton
You need to seriously consider this stand out product, especially if you play funk or pick style on a bass with passive pickups.
Boss BC-1X Bass Compressor Pedal
Very good. Only other things I would like are threshold controls for each band--a bit much for a small pedal, but I can dream.
