Epiphone B.B. King Lucille Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar - Black Reviews

Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar with Maple Top, Back, and Sides, Maple Neck, Ebony Fingerboard, and 2 Humbucking Pickups with Vari-Tone and Stereo Outputs - Black

Paying homage to an undeniable blues legend, Epiphone presents the B.B. King Lucille. This beautiful semi-hollowbody electric guitar is based on the classic axe Mr. King dubbed “Lucille” and played for decades, all the way up until his passing in 2015. The Epiphone Lucille features a 5-ply layered maple body and top for punchy, full tone. A maple neck with ebony fingerboard delivers incredibly smooth response and wonderful playability. An Epiphone LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge provides wonderful sustain and tuning support to this stunner. And Alnico Classic Pro humbuckers deliver that warm, vintage humbucker tone that translates beautifully to blues, jazz, and even rock.

Great guitar Great price

By Bob from Maciejewski on November 30, 2023

Epiphone really out did themselves on this guitar, not only on making a beautiful guitar but also on the play ability of it.My hand running up and down the neck feels so comfortable. The sound coming out of it is fantastic. This is my go to guitar for sure.
I would like to say thank you to the personal at SweetWater who set up and packed the guitar you all did a great job!

The aesthetic of the semi hollow body guitar is something that I have been listing after since 40 years ago a father of a friend of mine let me play his classic gretsch.
He played blues and jazz while I was in the rock and metal route.
Since those days my music and tastes have changed. I aged out of my novelty guitars and came back to the roots of my own style.
I have purchased many different guitars and setups over the years and have been in search of the tone that I can hear in my head but can't quite seem to find.
This lady is something that not only fits my hand well but plays effortlessly! My modest setup was able to dial in a very close final tone in minutes.
The controls are more intuitive than I had thought.
Lucille was able to show me some of her tricks immediately.
The balance reminds me of a PRS and the size is excellent for my forearm and wrist relief to help control the body and neck as I walk around and play.
The fret relief and setup seem absolutely on point.
It arrived in tune which I found amazing.
Intonation seemed perfect but I am a bit ocd so I had to tweak it a bit. I actually most likely made it worse.
Thank you to the setup and inspection team.
Thank you to the sales team.
I will be touching base with you all again and proudly have a sweetwater decal on all of my vehicles and cases!

Incredible Value for the Money

By Marc Forrester from Tucson, AZ on April 21, 2023 Music Background: Amateur Musician

This guitar knocks it out of the park. I hadn't played an Epiphone for over a decade, and the last one I did was passable. I had been of the opinion that Epiphone's were a beginner guitar. After trying this and owning it for a few months, I can safely say that it's every bit as good as a guitar twice its' value. The fit and finish are perfect; the ebony fingerboard is a classy touch that looks much better than the previous iteration of this model with a rosewood fingerboard.

After buying this, I was almost certain I would need a hard case for it. I was pleasantly surprised that the Epiphone Case/Bag hybrid it came with is solid. It is a zipper case, which I am not the greatest fan of long term, but it allows me to put off buying a new case for a while at least.

The only downside are the pickups, which are passable and more than decent when playing overdriven, but at cleaner tones have a muffle that isn't particularly pleasing. However, pickups can be changed, and the foundation of the guitar is fantastic. I have to give credit to the Sweetwater team for getting it shipped out so quickly and packed so well.

Love the BB king epiphone

By matt koch from Fort Collins, CO on February 14, 2023 Music Background: Just having fun

The service was incredible they called me and asked me exactly how I wanted my guitar set up what kind of strings I wanted plus I decided to have them use their plex machine the guitar arrived at my house in two boxes one inside the other very well protected I let it acclimate to my environment for 24 hours like they ask I took it out the guitar was perfect no fingerprints no smudges and it was even in tune somewhat my only complaint is they didn't put a bag of candy in the box or a sticker sweetwater rocks I would recommend them to anyone

B.B. King Epiphone

Own quite a few Gibsons, and would put this guitar up against ANY of them! Great Job Epiphone!

Amazing Guitar… I was pleasantly surprised

By Troy Bagby from Independence, Missouri on December 1, 2022 Music Background: I’ve been playing guitar ever since I was 10 years old. My musical interests range from country to blues to gospel, classic rock and some metal. One of my biggest influences as a guitarist would have to be hands-down Eric Clapton.

This guitar was a Christmas present to myself this year. I received it on Friday, but I didn't get to play it until I got home Sunday…

The first thing I noticed, when I took it out of the case that I also had to purchase for this instrument, where is the set up… It was perfect. The fret work was good, the strings were at the right height for me, neck profile was fantastic.

Then I plugged it in to my fender hot rod Deville to 1260 W that I've had for years, and boy was I pleasantly shocked!

This thing is so versatile!! I mean, with the combination of the three-way toggle switch, and the six position baritone switch. It's amazing the amount of tones you can get out of this guitar. I mean,,, just with the baritone switch you can go from full blown hum bucker to something it almost sounds like a single coil. And the three-way toggle switch sort of sweetens it.…

Overall,, I'm pleased to say that I'm happy with this additional purchase that I made with Sweetwater… And the case that I picked out really fit the guitar well.… And I was also pleasantly surprised on how nice the gig bag looked that originally came with a guitar. This tells me that Apple phone is really stepping up their game by coming back under the Gibson umbrella.

Thanks Ryan for your help in helping me get this wonderful instrument. You're the man!

Unbelievably Great Guitar

By Kevin from Mobile AL on September 17, 2022

I have owned one of these for a little over a year now and absolutely love it. You are not settling for less when you buy the Epiphone BB King. I honestly believe if I covered the name in the headstock anyone that okayed would think it's a Gibson. The pickups sound amazing. It has nice heart without being too heavy. Beautifully balanced. Fit and finish are superb. I love this guitar.

Good Tone at a Good Price

By Turtle from Buda, TX on January 13, 2022 Music Background: Lifelong musician and guitar collector.

This 2021 version of the Lucille guitar is the best looking version of the Epiphone iteration of an iconic guitar. The neck is comfortable and the ebony fretboard is beautiful. Switching through the Varitone switch gives you several tonal options and the stereo output gives you the ability to send audio to a different amp, or audio interface, for each pickup. The included Epilite case is a nice addition, as well. If you've been thinking about getting one of these, this is THE generation of Lucille to get.

Wonderful Tribute to B.B. King

By D.D. from Tampa on December 21, 2021 Music Background: Weekend Warrior

Purchased this well made Epiphone tribute guitar to the late B.B.King about two months ago. I can tell you Epiphone has really stepped up their game over this past 2 years with their inspired by Gibson series. This model has top quality finish, parts, and playability. The only change I made to the guitar was to put in different pickups that suit my playing style better (not that there was anything wrong with the stock Epiphone pickups as they sounded great) as well as put on a set of 11's. The neck with the ebony board is smooth playing and the fret work on mine was perfect. The Grover tuners and TP-6 tail piece keep the guitar in tune even when bashing out heavy bends and strumming chords. No feed back issues with the multi ply body (no F-Holes) even at extreme distortion levels. Overall at this price point a winner for Epiphone and You if you purchase one!

Incredible value

By Goozemann from West Chester, PA on October 27, 2021 Music Background: Retired punk rocker now hoarder

I have hoarding disease, and have over 50 guitars.....mostly Gibson and Fender, but some Jackson, Dean, ESP, Gretsch thrown in. This Chinese made Epi is as good as any of em. Its simply beautiful and plays as good as my custom shop Gibson 335. My only wish would be they ditch the urethane, which is gorgeous by the way, and go to nitrocellulose . Pickups are fine and i see no need to change. Epiphone has really upped their game....i bought the Brent Hinds V a while ago and that one too was fantastic. If you're on the fence and don't think these can run with the Gibsons, think again.

Exceptionally nice epi! Well worth the $$

By Kevin from New Hampshire on October 27, 2021

Super nice guitar. Essentially a dressed up Sheraton, same neck. Many upgraded features. Rich sounding pu's, rock solid tuners, and a huge tonal range. This could easily be your only guitar and play every style. It's got that iconic look recognized everywhere.

Excellent Guitar

By Mike from CA on October 27, 2021

I purchased this guitar on release day, after browsing older used versions for months. It was worth the wait, and slightly higher cost (compared to the secondary market) for the ebony fretboard, which is fantastic! This is my first Epiphone guitar, and I can say that on looks alone, it's right up there with my 1996 Gibson LP Custom. It does not compare to my LP Custom in any category other than looks, but there is still a LOT to love about this guitar. I plan to upgrade the bridge shortly, but there are no specific issues to note with the stock bridge. I haven't decided on the pickups yet, but for now the stock PUs are fine. The frets are slightly rough (easy fix) and seem smaller than any medium jumbo I have ever owned, which is maybe not a big deal, but my only gripe with this guitar so far. Still, 5-stars all the way! I think there is some natural hesitation about shelling out bucks on a guitar made in China, but after receiving it, I don't know where else you could get a guitar this stacked for this price...I don't think you can.
