I LOVE THIS THING

By Mark K. from Beautiful Melbourne Florida
Music Background: Retired electrical engineer, loving life and my wife

I never had one of the original Roland Dimension-D so I'm not comparing to that but after using one of the KT model for a year I had to buy a second one for my 40-channel mixing console.

I bring my Wurlitzer electric piano back into the mix through one of the KT 3RD Dimension, it gives the piano a nice swirly sound and opens up the middle of the mix for vocals.

I bring my acoustic rhythm guitar back through the other KT 3RD Dimension for the same reasons, it adds a gentle swirl, converts a mono guitar to stereo and opens up the middle of the mix for the vocals.

The KT has balanced inputs and outputs, the controls are easy to set and it is low in residual noise. I wish it was only a single rack space because it takes up a lot of space.

If these died or were stolen I'd order replacements immediately (my highest complement to any gear). They're a secret mixing ingredient of mine, don't tell.

Good Music To You!

Faithful Recreation

By Jesse P.
Music Background: EDM

The original unit is a classic like the Roland 201. But I grabbed this when it was on sale thinking it was worth a try. And it was. Im keeping it. It has that classic 80's chorus feel and tone. Like a Juno chorus. As the title says, faithful to the original sound. It a very nice retro unit. While I have had access to plenty of vintage analog units, I've never done an A/B comparison to the original. But the only hardware effect units I'm interested in are analog, since I can do digital effects easier in box. This is worth it. A classic circuit, but new components so I don't have to worry about vintage style woes and worries.

The good stuff is already worked in for you. Just a few buttons on the front. Dial in the sound and go. I'm a synth user, so I can testify it pairs well with the hotter signals synths pump out. But there's a few guitar folks here using it in their rack. So it works there obviously too. As it was a classic 70's addition to many ax masters back in the day.

It put a smile on my face to know I have access to classic analog effects now at good prices. I just got a bi-phase reproduction and can't wait to listen to that too. Have fun with this. It's inexpensive and great sounding. Classic at your fingertips. I've added a pic of the unit as it sits in my front end. A handsome addition to your rack. I've had it almost a year now and it seems to chug along just fine. It loves my Matrix Brute and also monosynths. Before I go I will extol one last virtue I like about it.

It will turn any mono signal, think monosynth single TS out, into a TRUE stereo signal! With true stereo presence, not just a wack dual mono BS thing. REAL STEREO! That's very useful for me. Extremely useful, as I enjoy stereo mixing in my DAW over mono signals.

(Have fun with it. Look to the bottom of my pic to see the unit)

A convenient recreation of the original!

By Wayne

I was very skeptical, but for the price I had to give it a shot. I've used the original SDD320 and have the Waza DC2w. The KR rack mount version captures the sound similar to the original, although with a bit less coloration, so it blends into the signal path nicely. Definitely a great additional to my studio.

Great for acoustic and synths

By Brian H. from Pemberville, OH
Music Background: Experienced Man-Cave Musician

I purchased this to run my Ovation acoustic and a couple of synths.
Sounds very nice and obviously super simple to use...4 buttons.
It's actually quite refreshing to just hit a button, instead of trying to dial in the correct amount of this or that. They've programmed it for us, and works quite well.
I didn't want some super chorus that has crazy sounds, to which I would never use.
This unit is musical and very useful.

Great multipurpose chorus

By Brian H. from Pemberville, OH
Music Background: Man-Cave musician for many years. :o)

I came across this by accident, not even looking for a chorus.
Read the details and reviews (from all over) and was intrigued enough to purchase.
I don't need knobs to edit everything, as I will never use warbly over-chorused effects.
This unit sounds great with acoustic guitar, electric piano, my Wasp mono synth, etc….mono in, stereo out.
Definitely a great purchase and highly recommended.
Like many others have said, you notice a huge difference when bypassed.

Almost as good as a plug-in

By Steve P. from Hawaii at the moment
Music Background: one note at a time

I think, at least for my purposes (in a guitar rack), there are better chorus options, but this would probably be a great unit for mixing, at much less cost than buying a vintage unit. To my ear, the UA plug in is a little more meaty. Its well worth the price. Big shout out to Jeffrey Green, who is the coolest guy to work with in or out of the pro audio business. Even if you don't buy this, seek him out....he knows his gear and has some great recommendations.

Good sound - Great value - Bad switch placement

By Eric L. from West Sacramento, Ca

I purchased this unit during a sale period and am very impressed with the overall sound and ease of use. It has a certain vibe that I wasn't getting from plugins and it's always fun just to reach over and punch buttons until the sound is just right. The only negative (and it's a pretty big one) is that the selector switch to choose between mono and stereo operation is on the back of the unit - impossible to reach when the unit is in a rack. So now I'm forced to pull the unit out of the rack every time nearly every time I'm using it. Kinda slows things down. Luckily the sound is worth it.

It is just a cheap chorus effect in a HUGE hollow box, with really cheap plastic switches. Why did I buy this?

By Sean F. from Boston, MA

First of all, it sounds nothing like the original. It phases out most of the low end, which is a deal breaker in terms of "emulating the original Dimension D from Roland."

The Dimension D was/is used heavily to thicken up low frequency instruments & sounds, and this BBD guitar pedal chorus cannot do that. As all the reviews and youtube videos state, it sounds best when run in parallel (i.e. wet/dry mix).

I listened to it for 10 minutes, was promptly embarrassed I bought it, and now it sits unplugged in my rack, functioning as a vintage-looking 3U rack cover plate :D

Awesome Chorus!

By Gerald G. from Jenison MI
Music Background: Guitar player.

This IS THE SOUND, if you are looking for the Roland/Boss Dimension chorus effect, in rack form.
It is a superb sounding item. At this time I cannot speak of the longevity of the unit, having only owned for a short time. But, the sound is what I hoped for. Buy this unit, if you are looking for THAT sound.

Amazing!

By Eli from TX
Music Background: Producer

For $ at the time of sale, I pulled the trigger, and now I regret not getting 2. Such a rich and excellent chorus Which adds instant width to your sound also adds a delicious stereo width to mono synths. Even at a regular price, it's still worth it. Works on anything! Backing vocals, soft synths, analog synths, guitars, 10/10.

Just needed a blend knob

Perfect unit. Just wish it had a blend knob so I don't have to use it on an aux or print.

Does exactly what it says it does.

By Robert F. from Middle of Nowhere PNW
Music Background: A little bit of this and that for three+ decades now

I'm familiar with the original Roland SDD-320, and have lusted after one for years, but they're subtle enough I never could bring myself to plunk down the $$$ for one as much as I loved using them in the early 90s. I should note I also have a Boss DC-2W (set permanently on SDD-320 mode), and this is very much in the same ballpark, with a little more headroom and tolerance of VERY hot signal (and the output meter is handy there.

I wanted something for the master bus of my mixer to leave on most of the time, like I did with the old SDD-320. It does that in spades - if I want it off, the button works admirably as does the footswitch choice (I have a pile of compatible switches from my touring days).

For the price, it's a no-brainer.

Expect SUBTLE - this will NOT get you warped out deathchorus. Either you love it or...it's "why do I have this?"

Honestly, it's an effect that you notice more when it's off than on if set properly!

Dis is da bomb!

By Dale C. from Freeville, NY
Music Background: 40 years, guitar player and production

I have owned every chorus worth a $ for a while. My favorite til now was the TC Corona, that it still very good. THIS KT 320 (owned/made by TC) is incredible. OK? think Andy Summers for DAYS and DAYS!! it's a bit over the top in many ways, and as others have pointed out here, integrating it into your rig is key. I am splitting it in a wet/dry rig and I use a mixer that allows me to blend in the dry return. This is key, if you go straight 100% it is a serious bass robber.

I want another one for my outboard rack in the mix.

If they make one with controls: intensity, rate, level, etc. I am all in. but I get that that is not how this thing works.

really unbelievable for the price. 7 stars if that was possible.

It's a chorus..

By Sweetwater Customer

I have the UAD Dimension D, the Waza DC2W and now the BBD-320. Seems like a bit of overkill but nonetheless it has its uses. It is analog and it has more headroom than the Waza so I can run it hot. The UAD needs a computer to run so theres that. There is one annoying thing about the unit and maybe it's a natural thing but my other units don't have it and that is there is aliasing or what sounds like it. When I play material at higher frequency through it there is a not so great swirling effect. Play lower octaves and it sounds great. Built solid though.

Totally Worth It...

By Adam from Boston
Music Background: Life long musician, guitarist, composer

Got this because I really wanted a stereo, line level analog chorus in a rack. Bam!

Out of the gate, I was a little disappointed as it seemed to suck out some low and high end. Tried several configurations with my wet/dry guitar set up, and now it's where it's supposed to be. Effect out to the Dimension, then to the second cab for that lovely 80's ADA MP-1 or Gallien-Krueger one side dry, other inverted and wet feel.

Rich, subtle, and detailed. Love it... totally worth the money and then some.

Now if Klark Teknik will make a stereo (dual) analog rack delay, I'd have everything!

This is Awesome!

By db R. from Nashville TN
Music Background: Musician/Engineer

This chorus is very unique in that it's balanced, stereo, ANALOG, and line level. The sound is incredible.

If you have a line level effects loop, ie Soldano SLO or Jet City 50 or 100 watt, you will never hear anything better in that loop.

We hooked it up to a serious sound craft recording console, balanced as an AUX, and we were completely impressed.

We tried it in the insert, unbalanced and mono and it delivered.

It works on everything that you would want to chorus, stunning on acoustic guitar. Classic 80's on electric, really remarkable. So much depth, so real sounding, because it is real. It literally sounds like 3D.

Digital chorus has always tried to get the 'lush' analog sound. When you hear this, you will realize that never really happened.

A lot of things need the qualifier, 'for the money' but you can't buy a line level analog chorus, except for this one, for any amount of money, and this one's awesome.

This is a world class deal.

FUN AND A BARGAIN

By Mark K. from Beautiful Melbourne Florida
Music Background: Retired, recovering from cancer, loving life and my wife

I owned and used an original Dimension D, it was a subtle effect and thankfully so is this one from KT.

I'm an analog guy with a 40-channel Soundcraft/Neve hybrid console. I'm currently using the KT 3rd Dimension on the Wurlitzer piano plugin used in several of my compositions. The KT-3D is inserted between the piano output from the DAW and the console inputs.

I've spent several hours A-B comparing the KT-3D and it is definitely staying in the signal path. It adds a fun randomness without trashing the original tracks tone.

Balanced inputs and outputs on 1/4 and XLR makes connecting this box easy. It can process stereo signals or it has a switch on the rear which allows mono-in/stereo-out.

I like it and may need another one to insert on guitar :-)

The price is right!

The two rack space box is annoyingly large, I wonder how much is really inside the enclosure. I wish it was only 1-rack space tall, that is my only complaint.

Good music to you

Really fantastic

By Ben from Ohio

This is the sound I have had in my head for years but have never quite been able to get with plugins. Blew me away in the first 10 seconds. Very, very musical and natural-sounding. The only thing I can't understand is the price... how is this so cheap?!?

Blew me away

By Marcus H. from San Antonio, TX
Music Background: Professional Recording/Mixing Engineer

I had used the original Roland unit a couple of times and obviously it sounded great, as it was supposed to. However outboard chorus effects weren't really a big draw for me but i LOVE all of the Klark Teknik stuff and this was dirt cheap so i figured why not.
Dudes and Dudets
This is the real truth
Ive only used this on one mix so far using it for stereo chorus on a Rhodes piano, I put it in and instantly it just WORKED, i didn't even have to do anything else to the Rhodes, it just sounded great. I got skeptical that maybe i was psyching myself out so I A/B it with a number of great plugins i have and although they sounded good, something about this unit just sounded better. I had some of my peers come and take a listen and they were all blown away as well.
For $... this is a steal, get it while you can. Ill definitely be getting another one soon.

As always, big shout out and appreciate to my sales engineer Paul and the great staff here at Sweetwater for looking out for me with this product, best music company in the world
