14" Snare Drum Batter Coated Head with Non-coated Center Dot

"The harder you hit it, the better it sounds." That's the motto for the Baron Top Dot batter head from Attack. This built-for-battle head is made from a coated 10-mil Dynaflex film with a non-coated Cardinal Red Top Dot that lets you bring a dynamic, aggressive attack to your performance without sacrificing tone. The Baron features a mechanically crimped hoop — no glue, thank you very much — that ensures this head stays in place without any tone-watering wiggle or wobble. The non-coated Red Top Dot adds a touch of increased articulation that blends nicely with the coated remainder. In addition, a feature drummers love here at Sweetwater is the Micro No Overtone ring that is affixed under the head, letting you really go to town without the fear of losing dynamic response or muddying the output.

Attack Baron

By Shawn from Scranton PA
Music Background: Drummer of a metal / punk recording project for the past 12 years

At the time I only bought this head thinking visually it would pop with my one set. Not only did it visually pop but it sounds really great too for a 2 ply. It feels amazingly durable, sounds and looks great. What else can you ask for?

Muy Bueno pero no duró como los Evans o Remo

By Cristian V.

Great snare drum head!

By Joe T. from HEFLIN, LA
Music Background: Starting playing guitar at 13 then started drumming at age 35. Been playing as a giving drummer ever since. I'm 67 and still playing rock and giging!

I love the Attack head! It has a cutting sound to get through the mix without over ring so it's easy to mix. Sweetwater is the greatest! Best price and service!

Does the trick

By Rocco from AZ
Music Background: Guitar, bass, drums

Got this to visually compliment my Remo Controlled Sound black dots, and it turns out to perfectly tame my Sonor maple snare.
No moongel or tape needed, this takes away all the annoying ring I was struggling with but leaves the sensitive feel.
Looks the business too.

Surpisingly awesome

By Nick
Music Background: Progressive Rock, Metal.

On my HHG Bell Bronze 25lb snare this head sounds killer. I've been playing Aquarian Hi-energy on this snare for many years and it also sounds amazing - the Baron makes it a bit drier which is a bit frustrating when initially mixing the audio as it's always nice to have some ring in the mix but on the other hand this allows you to be more creative in extracting/bringing up the fundamental tone of the snare. I won't remove this one from my set anytime soon at all.

Red Baron: An Ace

By Raymond B. from Harissonburg VA
Music Background: Been drumming over 50 years, still playing and gigging

Perfect head for my Pearl Sensitone Aluminum snare drum. I love the drum but a little too much over ring. Moongel helps but the head doesn't feel quite right. Same is true for heads with built-in muffling. The Red Baron does exactly what I need. Cuts down ringing with a very compact muffling ring that doesn't detract from feel or overall sound. The red top dot is great for back beat. The pleasant surprise is I can also play a soft press roll near the rim. Impressive versatility and high-quality construction.

Wow!

By Tod H. from Renton, WA
Music Background: Playing drums for 43 years.

I pretty much do used Remo emperors as my snare better for decades. I tried this drum head after watching some videos. I can tell you I absolutely love the sound of my snare with this drum head. The overtone control ring does a wonderful job controlling the metal overtones from my snare. I don't have to use any gels or anything to control the overtime. I when I rim shot, it sounds like a gun shot! The feel of the head is phenomenal too. I think I'll be sticking with this drum head for a while.

My new choice

By Todd from Northern Michigan
Music Background: Hobbyist

Being used to using 2-ply heads since the beginning, I've been experimenting with the different brands and styles. Initially I chose this head mainly because of its look when checking out Attack. I added it to an inexpensive Pearl snare and immediately I was blown away. I'm not a tuning expert with snares but I was able to get it right the first time with this one. I mean, BAM- it was fast. It has a great attack no matter what the tuning and feels great under the stick. I've used it every day for a week so far, and it does not disappoint. I threw my big fat snare drum (Steves donut) on it and realized that this is going to be my new standard. It not only looks sharp but the center dot also gives it just the perfect amount of "Umpf". Personally, I will eventually replace all my snare batters with this one when they wear out. With dampening or not, it is a fantastic sounding head that should fit in well with most styles of music.
