Chauvet DJ COLORband PIX-M ILS RGB LED Moving Strip Light Reviews

31" Strip Light with 10 Tri-color 6-watt RGB LEDs, D-Fi USB Port, ILS Compatibility, and Wireless RF Compatibility

Give your lighting setups a dazzling dash of moving color with the Chauvet DJ COLORband PiX-M ILS fixture. This moving strip light harnesses the colorful power of 10 tri-color (red, green, blue) LEDs to create dynamic sweeping effects and washes. Sweetwater lighting designers attest that this fixture also works phenomenally as a blinder effect. With built-in motors and individual LED control, the COLORband PiX-M ILS takes any stage with a bright storm. Plus, a built-in RF receiver makes this fixture compatible with the separately available RFC or RFC-XL remotes for wireless domination. This fixture provides 3- and 5-pin DMX connections, but even more wireless control is possible through the D-Fi USB compatibility for cable-less master/slave or DMX mode. Lastly, the COLORband PiX-M ILS can integrate into the ILS ecosystem so you can create incredible, integrated shows with a wide range of fixture types.

Chauvet should have left this alone

By Sublime L. from MEMPHIS, TN
Music Background: Lighting Designer

Yea, chauvet should have left this ones predecessor alone. The Colorband Pix M-USB feels more hefty, more metal than plastic. The ILS is the opposite. Although lighter in weight, the ILS feels like way more plastic amd more prone to damage. I'm not a fan of the placement of the power & Data ins/outs. I understand the theory behind it, but I'd rather have it all in the center like the USB model. I know that's a personal preference.

A side by side comparison shows that the USB model is a bit faster at responding to moving than the ILS. As others have mentioned, the glass pannel placed in front of the pixels is quite annoying for a couple reasons. One being that other light sources reflect off of the face of it, creating an ugly unwanted beam or spot in the room. Also, if this was to be added to the new model, it should've been removable and offered with a frost lense and/or a blackout lense.

The only positive I see the ILS has over the USB is that the color mixes are more homogenous through the new diffusers.

Love This Fixture but One Update Isn’t Great

By Dan V. from Mishawaka, IN
Music Background: The 1985 - Totally 80’s Tribute Founder

I have a pair of Chauvet Colorband Pixm USBs that were the predecessors to these. Although I don't currently use the ILS, this is a good update. The thing that I don't like about the new updated fixture is the addition of a very weak clear plastic "protection" sheet that overlays all of the lights. I have had bar fixtures like this in the past and they EASILY crack with use. The prior model was heavier (I'm glad they lightened them) but overall the old model seems more road worthy. Besides this, the bang for the buck on these fixtures is incomparable. Love all they can do for a show!
