The TRUTH has set me free . . .

By Sweetwater Customer

My Behringer Truth B2030A monitors are 19 years old now. I bought them new in 2006. I have recorded, mixed, and listened with them almost every day, probably 4 hours a day on average. And they sound awesome. In the photo attached which I took today, the Truth monitors are the only thing in my musical setup that has never changed since 2006. As far as I know, these monitors are the same model and construction as Behringer still makes today.

So, I had a scare recently that has made me appreciate these monitors even more. I was recording and had the volume cranked up full so I could hear where some reverb trails ended so I could mark the end of the song. But I forgot to turn the volume back down (which I've never done before), and a bit later I hit play right in the middle of the song with multiple instruments playing, including bass, and *KaBOOM!* . Amazingly, after I turned down the volume with lightning speed, and recovered from my shock, I was able to continue recording and listening with no problems. In fact, Behringer claims that these monitors have built-in overload protection, so I shouldn't have been surprised. But . . . a couple of days later, I noticed a distinct crackling sound in the left monitor, and I figured that I had actually finally blown out one of the speakers after all these years. I was devastated, but I thought 19 years was still a very good life for these or any monitors. I mean one of them could still be used as a mono reference monitor, but they would never be a pair again. And I don't want to change monitors. I've become attached to them, because they sound awesome, and I've recorded so many songs with them. In fact, I prayed sincerely to not have to get new monitors. But, just in case, I've been reluctantly researching new monitors for the last few days. But I can't find anything I like better. I'll just give one example. The Truth monitors have woofer speakers that are driven by a 75W amp and the tweeter is driven by its own 35W amp, equalling 110W total for each monitor. For the same price, the other brands available now only have about 50-70W total (woofer & tweeter combined), so the Truths have 40-60W more in the same price category. . . . Maybe there's one or two I missed that have similar wattage, but it doesn't matter now anyway, because miraculously, like waking up from a nightmare, after I disconnected all my cables, and reset and restarted everything in my recording setup, the left monitor is totally fine. Hallelujah.

PS. By the way, the 'pack of Ernie Ball Slinky strings' tacked to my wall in the attached photo is a fantasy custom gauge I made in Photoshop - it's not real. I even emailed Ernie Ball and said that they should make a set called Silky Slinky with a new custom gauge in a gray or silver pack. They did reply, and said if they thought there was enough interest they might do it. Ironically, a couple of days later, I found the John Mayer Slinky custom set which is called Silver Slinky (in a silver package!). I'm not particularly a fan of his, but that was a weird coincidence which has nothing to do with the monitors so . . .

Thanks.

Truth!

By Thomas
Music Background: 42 years piano playing, 22 years recording engineer.

I'll be honest, I've been mixing for the last 13 years on a pair of Edirol MA10Dbk's, and have had some awesome mixes come out of them, but it's because I've been doing it for so long, that I get used to how the speakers so, so I know what to do during mixing to get what I need out of them. Considering it's a small home studio, they have been fantastic, but as we all know, time tends to change things, but if we use them daily, we never notice the change.

I got these today and hooked them up, and was absolutely blown away, hence the 5 stars blown away selection.

They are a bit more punchy in the middle than the Edirol set (which still sound fantastic), and much more low end out of them, that I almost don't need my sub woofer in the corner. Very crisp, rich, warm, nice dynamics, and sound great at any level, although anything higher than half on my volume coming through my Tascam, gets a sound pressure high enough to cause headaches, if even for a brief moment. I am planning on making the studio bigger, and putting the monitors a little further away from me when the time comes, but all in all, these speakers are awesome.

Might even grab another pair...maybe even the Behringer Truth B2031A's!

Time will tell.

Great clear sound! They cause no ear fatigue as long as you don't go crazy with the volume. The bass is very good for how small they Are!
