Washburn B10
In all honesty, it was a toss up between buying a Recording King from the other place or sticking with Sweetwater because of the setup and the best customer service on the Planet. I was really happy though that I bought this banjo. It's very well made, sounds good, plays really easily, and altogether was absolutely worth buying. It's a beautiful instrument and even though they said it was a demo that had a few scratches, I can't tell; it looks 100% brand spanking new. Thank you, Andy for suggesting this model, it's sweeeeeet.

My new Washburn B10 5 string banjo is a mixed bag, if I may be honest. It is definitely a good first, learner's instrument. It is solidly built and garners compliments on its' appearance. I am unimpressed with its' sound quality though. In fact, it has a distinctly 'tinny' sound to it rather than the rich, melodic ring one typically associates with a banjo. I suspected that my over-eagerness to learn to play the five string banjo , which resulted in my purchasing this economically-priced instrument, might very well prove disappointing accoustically, which is true. But I have only myself to blame. Positively speaking, the smooth fretboard makes for great playability, and though tonally disappointed, I am very much enjoying learning to play bluegrass style and making wonderful progress at it! I will definitely shop around for my next 5 string and will certainly be purchasing a high-end banjo, very likely by another maker. For the price and my purpose, it is a good buy. Many thanks, Sweetwater, especially to Mike Baldonado for seeing to the quick delivery of not only this banjo, but of other accessories for both banjo and my Ovation!
