Awesome for the classic R121 SM57 combo

By Michael P. from CHICAGO, IL
Music Background: Audio Engineer, Drummer

I love the R121 and SM57 on guitars, so this is a no brainer for me. makes setup and moving mic's around so much easier. This makes phase alignment a snap. I know some folks want to position the two mics in different places or speakers on the cab, but for what I'm doing I like them both roughly in the same spot. Also since the mic clip for the R121 is not very good, this also works for that better than the included mic clip.

Great idea, poor implementation and cheaply made

By Les P. from Fort Myers, FL
Music Background: Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, engineer, producer, teacher

I bought one of these when they first came out. I'm ready to throw it in the trash due to inflexibility, poor design and poor quality. I was surprised it was made from a hard rubber and not hard plastic or a metal frame under the rubber.

The part that holds the 57 doesn't hold it at the center balance point so once the mic cable is on the 57, it's rear heavy and sags a bit so it doesn't keep the mic horizontal.

I don't like the lack of flexibility for spacing the two mics. It's fixed at a distance that's right next to each other. Fine if that's what you want but sucks if you want the 57 further away from the speaker center while leaving the 121 in the middle of the dust cap.

Finally, the brass insert was not bored well. Not cross threaded, just a bad bore so about 2/3's of the way in, there's a change in threading. As if one part only had 1/2 the threads so you can never screw this fully onto a mic stand. I must have gotten a bad one that snuck past the QC dept. I use all Triad-Orbit M2 and M3 orbitals which have well done threads so it's definitely this clip and not my stands or adapters. Also, I didn't cross thread it ever. In fact, I attached it to an M2 when I first got it and never removed it. I keep M2 orbitals on all my mic pairs with a stereo bar so they all have one of their own and this clip was no exception. It didn't screw in all the way from the very first use so I didn't touch it afterwards. It's in a studio, not on the road so it's had no rough treatment either. I moved the R121 to a different room recently which is why I removed it from the M2 (wanted to switch to an M3). Instead, I think I'm going to throw this thing out and get the RSM-SS1 and a separate clip for a 57 (or any other mic I want to pair with the 121). I always dual mic so every speaker I have uses a stereo bar. I tried to pinch pennies by using this AxeMount saving me the cost of a stereo bar and the RSM-SS1 (which is expensive). Not worth the savings in the long run.

Great clip for the R 121

By Edgar from Atkinson, IL

This clip works well for many applications. I have used it when recording the 121 alone or with the 57. I have also used it in a mid side configuration with a Neumann KM 184. The 184 is much smaller in diameter than a 57 so I had to wrap rubber surgical gauze around the Neumann to hold it securely but it actually works well. If you have a 121 and don't have the money to buy a Royer shock mount, get this. Don't put your Royer in a cheap universal clip that can literally fall apart on the job.

Great product!! Worth the price.

By Michael C. from Springfield MO
Music Background: Musician of 25 years.

This makes setting up the mics a whole lot easier and I used it for the first time yesterday in recording a 4x12 cab... sounded amazing! My cab is slanted so I typically use the bottom speakers, however, yesterday I tried the top ones as well and actually loved the sound coming out of them. I did not angle the mic to match the speaker I kept it flush like you would if you were micing the bottom speaker of any cab...flat or 90 degrees to the floor. The slight angle of the top speaker away from the Mics gave it an interesting difference in sound but both ways sounded really good.

I especially like the feature where the SM 57 slides in, there’s a little arrow that shows you exactly how to line up the mics. I tested it out and phase was perfect between the two mics.

Smart Design

By Todd from IL

This mount is such a smart design and worthy of the $40. It even has an arrow indicator to help line up the distance of the SM57's and R121's diaphragms to further ensure phase alignment. The mount itself feels very sturdy with just enough flex to it to make it easy to insert the mics, and it also has a high-quality "gentle" feel to it that won't mar or scratch the mics. Very nice mount that will simplify the R121+SM57 combo.

I have been using the 57/121 combo for years A+

By Brian from Brea, CA
Music Background: Recording for 20+ years

I have been using the 57/121 combo for years. They sound good using two mic stands. But this single clip just sounds better no matter what. No hassle and perfectly in phase. Best money I ever spent on a clip. Buy this you will not be disappointed.
