MXR M234 Analog Chorus Pedal Reviews

Chorus Pedal with Bucket Brigade Circuitry, High- and Low-cut Knobs, and Rate, Level, and Depth Controls

There's just something magical about real analog chorus. That's exactly what makes MXR's M-234 Analog Chorus pedal the perfect addition to your guitar rig. Tweak the M-234 Analog Chorus's rate, level, and depth controls to go from subtle shimmer to dizzying swirl and everywhere in-between. The M-234 Analog Chorus also includes high- and low-frequency cut knobs, so you can dial your tones in just so (these controls are also very handy for matching your effected tone with your un-effected sound). Like all of MXR's pedals, the M-234 Analog Chorus comes housed in a tough, lightweight, and compact aluminum chassis.

Great chorus sound, but...

By Sweetwater Customer from OH

Great chorus sound, in fact one of the best I've owned, but unfortunately the bypass is awful and renders the pedal useless for my purposes. Very noticeable loss of punch and volume when compared to straight into the amp. Almost as bad as a wah pedal's bypass. I have 2 other MXR pedals (script Phase 90 and Carbon Copy), and neither of them have this issue, I bought this pedal sight unseen based on the quality and performance of my other MXR pedals and a few YouTube demos. If you need a transparent bypass like I do, look elsewhere.

The standard in Chorus Pedals

By Steven H. from NJ
Music Background: Recording musician, MrMadd

Great chorus pedal. MXR has been in this a long time. Great sounding effect pedal. Typical chorus tones and controls. I did not want anything too crazy. This pedal hits the sweet spot of chorus tones I needed.

I am not a big fan of the swirl sound, but a small amount can add great depth addition to your tone.

I am also not a big fan of pedals, but this one fits in nicely.

Very pleased with my purchase.

Perfect for cleans and some 80's Rock tones!

By Giuseppe G.

I've always wanted a chorus pedal since hearing many of Metallica's clean riffs, and I finally have one! It adds so much more personality to the stock clean tone of an amp, and is also really nice for some 80's or 90's rock. I also got this for a very extra and specific reason, which was to capture the lead tone of one of my favorite guitarists. Corey Beaulieu from Trivium uses an Eventide H9, but he said he uses chorus as an effect in his lead tone, and the MXR Chorus basically gave me the tone as close as possible to his lead tone, so I'm very happy!

4 years on and it's still on my board

By Steve from Pennsylvania
Music Background: Long time hobbyist multi-instrumentalist

I never was really a swirly sound kind of guy, until I tried this pedal. When I click this on with a fair amount of dirt -- the sound is magnificent! All my pedals (save the Catalinbread Talisman Plate Reverb) are analog because for me anyway, perfection lies in their imperfection. This pedal is that kind of perfect.

Does the job well

By Jim

I was looking for a "no frills" chorus pedal and after my usual research, I settled on this guy.
It's easy to use and the EQ feature helps me get the tone I want out of each of my guitars.

Excellent Pedal

By .--.

I really like this pedal. It has a very nice sound and is very well-built, including the processional-looking PCB with nearly all surface-mount components. Using with my Strat, a few other pedals in front of it, and my Hot Rod Deluxe.

This was my first-ever Sweetwater purchase. Found out about them by way of a Google search regarding audio drivers and discovered they had a lot of useful info on their web site. It's great that they offer a 2-year warranty and a dedicated sales POC, and I think everything I've ordered from them has arrived before they said it would.

Favorite modulation pedal

By Sweetwater Customer

Firstly, is there any "tone suck?" Yes, there's some slight top end roll off. But in a gigging or recording situation, it's hardly noticeable. With that out of the way, chorus is a must have effect for me and this one is the best sounding out of all that I've tried. The analog tones are lush and gorgeous. One of my favorite pedals.

Just what I wanted

By Sweetwater Customer

I had an old chorus pedal that went south. This one is much nicer - well made with lots of controls to tweak to just the sound you want. I already had an MXR Micro Amp to boost the output of the pickup on my acoustic guitar, and it works great. They build very well designed and solid products. Highly recommended.

Classic chorus sound

By Fheder from Miami

there is something that no digital pedal does yet well and that is to emulate modulation effects, I use both the Fractal FM3 and the Kemper Stage and both come close but not quite, this is all you need, and thousands of records will ensure this sound is what you seek in your rig

First Chorus I Ever Really Liked

By Ebil W. from Ohio
Music Background: Instructor, semi-pro player

Growing up in the 80s while being more of a fan of the 70s, I grew to hate chorus. It was the cheese pedal. EVERYONE was drenching their sound in it, and a lot of them never shut their chorus off. I only had a chorus in my board for playing covers, and it was off most of the time. I would often just leave it out of my board, for simplicity's sake.

But now that it's 35 years later and the use of chorus has subsided to its proper place as just one of the tools in a player's toolbox, I finally broke down and started looking for one that's not too expensive and would do better than the uninspiring chorus pedals I've had over the years. I took a chance on the MXR, since I'm a big fan of my script Phase 90, and now I finally have a chorus that I don't cringe to think about using, and it is now, in fact, one of my favorite pedals. I really like how organic this one sounds. It's a far cry from the cold digital Boss and DOD units I've always used. No wonder I hated chorus, I never had a good one.

It is analog, so it hisses a little. Big deal. The sound destroys both Boss units I've had (CE-5, CH-1), it's actually cheaper than Boss, and I love old school vibe and the blinding blue light. You need red lights and blue lights in your board, or it's just not Star Wars. I gave it 4 1/2 stars because 5 is "the best," and I haven't compared them all.

MXR

By Sweetwater Customer

I purchased the MXR Analog Chorus as a spare unit because the output power supply jack on my MXR Stereo Chorus has a problem and it only operates consistently with batteries. These two units are very different in sound. I have had a chorus pedal since the first days of the Boss (large grey unit) stereo unit in the late 70's when the effect sound was new. This Analog Chorus is a good pedal but a different sound than the yellow MXR Stereo Chorus. It also is indeed a stereo unit and when in stereo, like all chorus pedals it is quite better. In all, its effect is not that of the Boss units, either. It is not a classic chorus sound to my taste. It is a clean, bright effect and without the complexity of sound in other pedals I use. The larger MXR pedal is very rich in sound, so much that I need to use the pedal EQ to cut the low-end. But the quality of the chorusing is very different. There is nothing lacking in the Analog Chorus - it is a different sound - more narrow, brighter, less rich, less lush, and thinner. As with all MXR pedals the quality is very good. For the classic chorus sound that I prefer, the Boss, or the larger MXR unit are my choice. For those of us who came about with a chorus pedal years ago - we learned that there is an enormous difference in effect between mono and stereo chorus. Professionally speaking, mono chorusing is not quite effective, especially with overdrive. This MXR Analog Chorus pedal also sounds much better in stereo with two amps. As always, Sweetwater servo e is second to none.

Marvelous pedal

By Nabeel K. from Chapel Hill, NC
Music Background: rock, blues, jazz, pop, electronica

This pedal gives you a lush and rich chorus that is eminently tweakable, for subtle chorus sounds to intense chorus. It is a quiet pedal also. That bright blue on-indicator light is a little out of control, very dazzling, but nothing a small piece of tape can't help. An excellent chorus pedal. From an excellent supplier of musical gear.

I love it!

By Dick M. from Western NY
Music Background: Semi-pro musician 57 years

Another reviewer described this pedal as his "secret weapon". I would have to agree because I use it the same way he does! Rather than go for that shimmering chorus effect, I max out everything except the "rate". I keep that at minimum. You almost can't tell the pedal is on. It sounds like you're playing "clean" but there's an added depth to the guitar. It's great! I specifically chose this particular pedal because it will work with a 9v battery. I use a very simple setup and I don't need to be fooling around with power supplies. I also do some busking and I can use this pedal when there's no 110a/c available.

Super happy!

By Charles S. from Wichita, KS

Super happy with this chorus. I already have the MXR® STEREO CHORUS M134 but wanted to step it back to a more boardpfriendly pedal, not that the M134 isn't equally amazing, but this one gives me more room on my board for other pedaks and I have to say that the blue LED on the M234 is far brighter than the orange LED on the bright yellow M134. But it isn't about the LEDs and this pedal is just super smooth when switching it on and off, there is absolutely no tone drop that I can tell and it has a beautiful, crystal cleqr liquid chorus sound.I had read that this particular chorus is actually the same as the Zakk Wylde Black Label Chorus, they simply switched the cases. I don't now if that's true or not but it works for me; you can easily dial in the same perimeters as those in the Black Label maunal and judge for yourself. All the same, I highly reccomend the MXR Analog Chorus. swseet and simple baby blue with a blue LED that you can see from outer space. If it says MXR you can bet it's built like a tack and their support is second to none.

Great Pedal!

By MJS from Lake Stevens, WA
Music Background: Casual multi-instrumentalist for church worship band.

I love the versatility of this pedal. I can "salt" the tone of my acoustic or my semi-hollow with just the right amount of texture. You can certainly soak the signal wit it - but you can find your sweet spot easily. Love the ability to EQ it. Pedals are subjective, five stars for me means it completely met my needs and surpassed my expectations.

Old School at it's best.

By Norm S. from Kalamazoo
Music Background: Former pro/now semi pro

I'm not a pedal junkie, I play clean with some compression and a Wah. Rarely use overdrive, my style could be classified as Smooth Jazz. I needed a chorus to round things out and this was the one. It can go from subtle to lush to insane, all with that old school analog flavor. Combined with my Vox Wah I can move from 70s Funk to soulful jazz with minimal tweaking.

Warmest Chorus I have Ever played!

By Norman S. from KALAMAZOO, MI

I've played guitar since the 70's, and the standard Chorus was Boss. Now don't get me wrong I currently use a Boss Nextone Artist amp and I love it. At 64 I will never go back to tube amps. But I received my MXR analog Chorus today and two hours after I plugged in to it I realized that I was moving into new options of sonic territory. It provided me with the warm chorus sounds of the 70'S and 80'S as well as new options as I tweaked my pickups. I play an Ibanez AS153 and it gives me a number of pickup options(on the neck pickup) as a Fusion, Blues, Jazz player (in that order) I have never had a more responsive, noiseless, and tweakable Chorus pedal. The High and Low cut features make this a remarkable tool IF YOU WANT A Chorus! At the price I dare say this is the Chorus to buy. And my salesman Nick was on exceptional.

Smooth chorus

By Tom A. from St. Johns, FL

A natural-sounding chorus pedal with plenty of flexibility. One star off for the pilot light - it's obnoxiously bright and interferes with the ability to see knob settings. I had to put masking tape over the pilot light to be able to see past it.

Sounded Great until it stopped working

By MXRfan

I owned this pedal for about a year and had no complaints. However, one day the pedal would just not turn on. It has been over a year since that fateful day and still nuthin. I tried using different power adapters (all 9vdc so it wouldn't get fried) and numerous different 9v batteries. This didn't really surprise me as my other MXR products (an eq and phaser) are faulty as well. Don't buy this MXR POS...support other companies.

Excellent

By Aaron from Honolulu
Music Background: Formerly Professional

Bought this for my son who just started out at 10. I've used the Boss Super Chorus for years as the go-to workhorse for tone and durability. Never considered anything else until the kiddo's MXR arrived last week. All I can say is it is an excellent sounding pedal. Very warm and crystal tone. The ability to mildly EQ is also a nice feature that isn't extreme on the scale. Ran it in the chain and in the loop and did not experience the signal drifting a lot of people are talking about even at high volume. My son loves it and so do I. Go buy one ;)

Sweet Chorus

By Aussie
Music Background: Guitarist

Very nice, and easy pedal to use. Works very well with cleans. That is what I use it mostly for. It is also very simple to use. My favourite part about this pedal is, it's not too much chorus, and it's not too little. It fits right in with your tone. Weather you want a subtle effect, or a lot. To me it is well worth it, and it will remain as part of my sound for a long time.

Secret Weapon

By Squirrel N.
Music Background: Bedroom Rock Star

Always on. I never play clean. I was thinking about sand blasting the paint off of it and making it my geeky little secret. If you crank the high and low knobs and go easy on the rate/depth you get a cool wetness to the signal that just adds character and upper midrange clarity. I'd rather play without an overdrive than play without an analog chorus on my board.
It's almost like a treble booster. And I don't mean "treble" in a harsh way. Just clarity and a signal that doesn't seem so lifeless and flat. I use this in such a way that you would hardly notice it is on. But without it, it sounds like a blanket thrown over your amp. I will never play without one. If I had to choose between chorus and reverb, I would not play without chorus.
Now, having said that, you could probably conclude that chorus has been a fundamental (yet subtle) part of my tone for some time. So, yes I've tried many chorus pedals to see which ones jive with a distorted signal. This is the ONLY one that didn't sound "digital" when working with crunch. It even out performed an old Boss analog chorus. I've had other chorus pedals that sounded weird on single notes. Not this guy.

Sweet sounds for days!!

By BrosefJ
Music Background: Gigging guitarist

Very tweakable and one can certainly get some of those bizzaro de-tune tones out of this. That being said I found 80% of the tones in this little blue beauty to be lush, sweet, musical and very usable. Build quality is rock solid. Running this in my chain in front of my amp: zero of the tone-coloring issues some have mentioned. For the price, it's unbeatable in my book. Also shout out to Nick Grawcock for taking care of my gear needs despite the complications of "the 'Rona" thanks Nick!

By Doug from Twin Cities, MN
Music Background: 30-year hobbyist

I love the subtlety, and usability throughout the whole array of settings. Warm, lush, and musical, without any razzle-dazzle 'death ray' settings that are completely unusable. Other reviews were not kidding about that blue LED light either.
It's only a notch or two below the intensity of a laser pointer when you stand over it. At any rate, this one's a keeper. It does that one job, and does it very well.

The standard.

By Ryan D. from MS

Just like most everyone has said, this pedal is pretty much the standard in affordable anolog chorus pedals. Simple to use and dial in a tone from the 80s or a Brian May barely there effect. Personally I use it to buff up my clean tone but this pedal seems to reward playing around with the settings.

Nice Chorus Pedal

By Bob C. from New Jersey
Music Background: Gigging Musician

This is a very nice chorus pedal. most chorus pedals just have three knobs or so, like depth, rate and level. this one has that but also has a couple of tone knobs to give you even more control over your sound. I like to have a brighter sound when I use the chorus as opposed to when I am not using it. That's just my own personal preference. I am able to cut the lows with this pedal in order to do just that. Some may prefer a darker sound and would want to cut the highs. Well, you can do that too.

The unit sounds fine with everything just set at twelve O' Clock. but you have the ability to fine tune it all with the five knobs on the unit. There is a lot of versatility there. This is a well built, solid unit. i look forward to years of use. It works well with or without distortion too. It also works well with a phase unit and other modulation effects. you can't go wrong with this pedal.

PERECT!

By TROY W. from SURPRISE, AZ
Music Background: Gigging Musician

I absolutely LOVE this pedal!
I've used a Boss CH-1 for more years than I can remember and have been shopping for a new flavor for quite some time.

The M234 is EXACTLY what I have been looking for. The low and high cut controls on this are what make this pedal perfect.

The M234 was a breeze to dial in with nearly the exact same settings I used on the CH-1.
But it just sounds sooo much more lush and full than the Boss.

I will say this though... I don't go crazy with chorus (or any modulations for that matter). I like just a little depth for clean tones and the occasional extra bit of flare on top of some OD. So my use of this is rather subtle. This will certainly get some "watery" tones but it doesnt get too crazy.
If you are after extreme warbly chorus settings, this is likely not the pedal for you.

Further more, I have read some complaints about "tone suck" with the M234.
Running it into the front of my amp after my dirt pedals I have ZERO issues with "tone suck".
However, just for giggles, I did try it in my (series) effects loop, and it most certainly IS a "tone sucker" there.
Through the front though, is where I have always run my chorus pedal(s). So for me there are no issues.

Special thanks to Aaron Hoff and the rest of the team at Sweetwater! You guys rock!

First MXR

By Denny from West MI
Music Background: Full time hobbyist

This is a great chorus pedal. Super heavy duty. Not sure it"s a perfect chorus for me but that doesn"t mean I dislike it. I recommend it to anyone who"s not a modulation purist or knows exactly what they want. Super adjustable with the 5 knobs and at the relatively low price it"s a no brainer! I keep it on my board until I find "the one". If you are looking for an all around great chorus...this is a great choice! I"ll definitely give MXR more consideration going forward.

Very nice but Subtle Chorus, Just what I wanted

By Brian from Placerville
Music Background: Lifetime player, hobbyist

I don"t care for pedals that sound like space ships or rain drops or laser guns. This chorus adds just the "color" I was looking for without being too "far out". Another thing I really enjoy is that it handles the dirt with ease, very usable with high gain and leads. A nice bonus was the flange characteristic that shows up when using it with distortion. Also, it has a very nice transparency, that is to say a separation between the dry and wet signal. It won"t change your tone, just color it up a bit. Increase the rate and use it with a tremolo and you have a great rotary sound. 4.5 stars because it came without a manual to explain the Low and High knobs.

Good Chorus Pedal

By Tim R. from IL

Thought I was having a problem with another chorus pedal so I bought this one as a back-up. Turns out the problem I was having was not with the old pedal, but with the non-functioning power supplies I bought from Sweetwater. Great Chorus!

By Erik from Kansas City
Music Background: Semi-Professional Acoustic Musician

I added this to my acoustic pedalboard and I think it was the ideal choice for my needs. I generally use it to add and restore a little harmonic overtone and oscillation to my piezo sound but I also turn it up for more shimmery arpeggio parts as well. The tone controls help restore any brightness lost to the analog design and can cut bass when needed. Can go from subtle shimmer and overtones to swirling and undersea tones. MXR makes great stuff.

MXR M234 Analog Chorus

By Sweetwater Customer

At the present time I have not used this chorus in a band situation, so you may want to take this review under advisement. Nonetheless, before I bought an mxr, I mainly used a Boss CH-1 Super Chorus but I believe Boss made a CE-2 Chorus back in the day if I'm not mistaken and it was the old boss chorus sound that I was looking for. I tried the MXR M234 Analog Chorus because I had always been curious about the MRX sound in general. I remember seeing other guitarists use their pedals back in the mid to early 1970's. In any case, I know now that the present MXR Brand is now owned/and or made by a different company. Having said all that, I really like the sound of this chorus pedal. It reminds me of the chorus sound in New Wave music circa 1978-1981 or somewhere around that time. I mainly play a vintage style strat Fender '62 Reissue and a VVT Lindy Fralin II Amp (not to be confused with the VVT Lindy Fralin Amp currently made by Jim Hiill) so the chorus may sound quite different in your set up, but I do like and the price for this pedal is fairly reasonable so if you have the money and this is the sound you're looking for you may want to check into this pedal.

Tweaker's delight!

By Lee B. from Seattle, WA
Music Background: Hobbyist

This is such a versatile chorus pedal! It has the usual knobs for level, rate, depth, but also a low and high cut to fine tune how bright or warm the end tone is. If you want to keep your Fendery shimmer, you got it. If you want it dark, muddy and swirly, you got that too.

This product is more than capable of 4-star "close enough" chorus tones for classic CE-2, CE-5, and Small Clone sounds. It plays equally well with clean or distorted tones. I added an extra half star for the price.

The one downside is true of any unusually tweakable pedal: it's super easy to tweak yourself into no man's land. Sometimes you get something out of that journey, and sometimes it can be maddening.

Pretty good pedal

By Trent g.

This chorus pedal really brings any clean tone to life. What's great about this particular chorus pedal is there are low and high eqs. It sound especially great when you turn the highs up because it gives you a really nice shimmering tone. It still doesn't beat the classic boss ce 2 chorus circuit but it's still a great pedal. The only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 is because the blue light is extremely blinding. But it's a solid pedal to say the least.

Best chorus ever

By Tony M. from Mexico

As a guitarist, I've tried virtually every chorus in the market. This pedal sounds excellent, from organic to crispy clean. Thanks to Ted my sales engineer, MXR rocks!

Rather bland sounding chorus. Pedal is well made and low noise, just don't expect anything exceptional in terms of tone

Best Chorus

By Graham from Jackson
Music Background: Musician/ Sound engineer

I researched, listened too, and have tried other expensive chorus pedals. Mxr did it right with this guy. I use an Oknob with the rate and with a very deep depth setting to go from shimmer to Leslie. The bass, treble, and mix controls really rock this thing.

It is an always on pedal for me and is the least expensive pedal on my board.

P.S The build quality is bomb proof. I don't think it can be broken.

Nice

By Rick from AZ

I use a lot of pedal FX: chorus, delay, flanger. reverb, compression, OD, distortion, whah

Got to have a chorus pedal in the mix, I would say the effect is subtle, like a reverb, you know it there, but it's not overly noticeable, (unless you turn it all the up).

Awesome Chorus, awesome price, amazing company

By Morgan C. from Fargo ND

This is a fantastic effect, it is incredibly versatile, works great with distortion and sounds great with an acoustic guitar, just beautiful! And for the price you just can't afford to not add this to your collection!

For the money this chorus is OK. Chorus for me is an effect that is sparingly used and this does the job.

Great Chorus

By Preston from Anderson, IN

I bought this as my first chorus pedal several years ago. It caught my eye due to the price, and the fact that I'd had good experiences with MXR pedals in the past. I plugged in and was instantly blown away. The versatility, lushness, and just good tone are absolutely stunning. You'd be hard pressed to find a better chorus pedal in this price range.

Should be called Amazing Chorus

By Steve S. from El Paso

It really should be. Easily, the best chorus I've tried. Best one in its price range. The buffer bypass is pretty good too, helps you maintain a good tone. Its Super versatile. Super well built. Trust the reviews. There is a very good reason as to why there isn't a bad one. Would've gladly paid more for this and been just as happy. Does classic vintage chorus to modern chorus to flanger like and whacky sounds. Buy it. You definitely will like it.

Lovin' it!

By Sweetwater Customer

Fantastic pedal, versatile, silky smooth, transparent. Does not add tone (if you don't want it to), just puts that beautiful watery effect on top of what you're doing. Highly recommended!

Awesome Sound

By George S. from Oviedo FL

The MXR analog chorus pedal is a very high quality effect pedal. It doesn't have that artificial digitally processed sound like many others. It sounds very smooth. The service provided by Ed Nystrom at Sweetwater is unparalleled. He made certian that when I opened the package that I had everything that I needed to plug and play. I am a Sweetwater customer for life! I have purchased two guitars and two MXR effects now. Oh, and their financing makes your gear acquisition syndrome dreams come true.

Simple and Effective

By Brandon B.

Bought this pedal mostly because it is on Eddie Van Halens' and Slashs' Guitar rigs, and it is a MXR pedal.
Everything from watery, bright cleans to warm gushy or nice and tight on distortion and overdrives tones. This little blue guy is gonna get the job done...right.It is also bufferd which a good thing(my opinion).Easy to use.Need I say more?

Pedal Board MUST

By Les B. from United States

Still building up my pedal board and I consider Chorus a gotta-have item. I let Mike B. talk me up to this pedal from a simpler, less-expensive model and I'm really glad he did. The flexibility/range of this unit is all I will ever need. Clean, compact, simple to use, this is a keeper!

Dreamy

By Blake from Cincinnati, Ohio
Music Background: Producer/writer

This pedal is quickly becoming a huge part of my sound, I almost always have it on when playing clean. Being analog, it does have a tendency of getting extra crazy on certain rates, especially high rates. The top two knobs are essential, and act as an EQ. This allows the pedal to go that extra mile with the effect while compensating for the tonal fluctuations. I play a Strat through a modified Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and every time I click the silver button on the M234 it feels like I'm sending my signal through a dream. I usually like the depth and level cranked around 75%+ and the rate around 28%-38%. The eq depends on your guitar and amp tone/eq. The one downfall is the blue power light. It is so bright I had to cover it up in order to read the knob labels. Still, sound takes priority and this is a purchase I don't regret a bit. Sweetwater had it shipped quickly, the longest I've ever waited on a package from them was a week, during the holidays. Usually it's 2-3 days. I'm satisfied!

Very nice Chorus

By Bill B. from Leesburg, VA
Music Background: Hobbyist

I purchased this pedal to replace a digital multi chorus that died. I'm a hobbyist player in a jam band that covers a lot of different music so my goal for my pedalboard was to help me get "close enough" for a wide range of music. That is why initially chose the digital chorus that had several types of sounds available. However, when that pedal died, I decided to weight toward a more robust pedal and my other MXR products have been bullet proof. Therefore my choice became this or the Zakk Wylde chorus which is actually identical except for the paint job. I decided to go for the non-signature product as I don't really attempt to sound like anyone else, and ZW would be among the last I would try to emulate if I did. Anyway, this is a very, very nice chorus. It sounds great both clean and with O/D or Distortion. Very easy to dial in lush, liquidy cleans or really thicken up you distorted lead tone. I'm very happy with the pedal and expect it to be as long lived as my other MXR stuff. If I have a complaint, its that the blue LED is massively bright, but you can tape over it if its distracting.

Very good sounding pedal

Good pedal!

By Byron F. from Burbank, CA
Music Background: LA studio musician / producer

I'm liking this pedal.
It's built to live on the floor and be abused, no fuss analog controls, great sound. It's able to take the signal level from an effects loop, which is important to me, it'll get a lush, spacey sound for ethereal clean passages and a tight chorus for funk rhythm; the wild slow sweep with the depth cranked (if you're into that) AND the rate goes high enough to get a rotary speaker effect.

Great Sounding Chorus!

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Home Studio Enthusiast, Pedalboard Designer/Builder

I've been looking for a chorus pedal to add to a new pedalboard I'm building for myself for quite some time. I build boards for other local musicians and have been able to try out many different chorus pedals over the years. I'm definitely partial to the analog chorus sound. I've tested several vintage pedals (Boss CS-2, Ibanez CS9) and even tried the newer Boss CE-5 (not a fan) along with a Small Stone and Nano Stone from Electro-Harmonix. If price were not an issue, I would shell out for a minty vintage Boss CS-2 ($170-$200) which I have on another board of mine. But I wanted to see what was out there and gave this one a try. In the end, it came down to either the MXR Analog Chorus or the EH Small Stone. The MXR ended up winning out - I could match the same tone of the Small Stone plus dial in many other flavors. And it takes up less space on the board and is built like a tank. This is an excellent pedal for the price and IMO really stands up to my favorite, the Boss CE-2. Anyone looking for a great sounding analog chorus that can pretty much do it all can't go wrong with the MXR!

Nice Analog Chorus Effects...

By James D. from New Haven area, Connecticut.
Music Background: self taught on guitar, vocal, songwriting, recording

I recently bought the MXR Chorus Pedal M-234. So far I use my chorus pedal on occasion. I have a Roland JC-120 stereo guitar amplifier. The perfect amp for this chorus pedal, you might say. But currently I have equipment scattered about. I'm working on downsizing my pedal board. I still find my best description of the "chorus" effect to be of a Carousel-like effect or "similar to the sound of music coming through several speakers rotating at slightly different speeds". An example of a typical and pleasant chorus effect would likely be with the rate and depth knobs set between 2:00 and 3:00. Run one cable out of the "mono" jack on the pedal to one amplifier. Run the other cable out of the "thru" jack to a second amplifier. Or using a stereo amplifier run one cable out from the "mono" output on the pedal to the Left stereo channel of the amplifier, and run the second cable from the "thru" output of the pedal and into the Right stereo channel. Stereo hookup is not necessary for hearing the effect but only a stereo hookup will animate and create a sense of movement within the effect. It's a real pretty effect. I use it with one cord out from the MONO jack. All Analog. Bucket Brigade Technology. Same size as a Dyna-Comp or Dist+. There's a lot of pluses there. That's why I bought it. Unless you want an over-the-edge-digital that will do chorus to the 5th power,.. this in a real comfortable, nice looking, pretty sounding pedal with a small footprint. I recently bought
a American Deluxe Strat. 'n ask my sales rep. to tack this on too.

Classic sound with lots of tweakability!

By Sweetwater Customer from Los Angeles, CA
Music Background: Producer

Bought this primarily to use with old analog synths, but also with my DSI Tetra, to warm up some of the pads and strings with some Juno-60 style chorus. The sound is great and with so much control you can dial in pretty much any chorus effect you want from mild to extreme. My only gripe - and this goes for all MXR pedals - is that it is too easy to overload the pedal if you come out of a synth. I have to really turn the level down to almost silent to avoid clipping the pedal, whereas with other brands like BOSS and Moogerfoogers they just work.
