A Beast Of An Eight
Bought this to replace the stock speaker in a wee SWR bass practice amp that had been modded with a jack to run the speaker from a different amp. Worked brilliantly as an adjunct to a larger SWR bass amp with a 12" in it, resulting in a much fuller sound.
Left with a stray 8", I traded a sound engineer friend for an empty 8" cabinet made for a P.A. rig. It's a heavy, deep, carefully tuned cabinet built using a software program from (IIRC) E.V. For kicks, I mounted the Eminence in that, and tried it out with a couple of guitar amp heads. Good lord in heaven, but this combo is monstrous. You'd never think that what you were hearing was coming out of an 8" speaker. It's like a shrunken 4x12 cab, but at a volume that won't obliterate a small room.
To sum: this speaker kicks butt. Balanced, tight, and powerful.
Perfect speaker for baritone guitar
I installed an Eminence Alpha 8a in a 10"x10"x10" custom speaker cab with a bottom port. The frequency range is absolutely perfect for baritone guitar but also for bass and guitar. I've had it for 12 years now and never had any issues. (I painted the outer rim red to match my baritone guitar.)
Great speaker
I have been looking at this speaker for years, and finally decided to go ahead and purchase it. I bought it as a replacement speaker for a practice amp I've had sitting around for years now. It's exactly what I had hoped it was. A good high head room speaker, that is clear and versatile. It is a PA speaker, so it it will replicate whatever you throw at it pretty accurately, with maybe a little more character than a studio monitor might have. Somewhere between a guitar speaker and a monitor. I bought it for use with modeling preamps, but it sounds good with a tube amp too. Definitely a great speaker, I have used Eminence speakers in other cabs with good results ever time. I have a Dv-77 in my 2x12 now. I highly recommend this speaker and Sweetwater as the place to get it from.
Perfect For A Wee Bass Amp
Replaced the stock 8" speaker in an SWR LA Series practice amp, and the Eminence really shines. Excellent representation of the full frequency spectrum of the instrument. Tight, punchy, clear. Like every Eminence speaker I've installed, this one's built like a tank.
Great speakers
I ordered these Alpha 8A speakers as replacements for the factory speakers in my Fender Acoustasonic 150. The old speakers were rattling when I use a little too mush bass. I emailed Eminence customer support to find out which speaker would be the best replacement and they responded almost immediately and to my surprise I was connected to the company engineer. We emailed each other several times and finally decided on the Alpha 8A. Great service from Eminence. I couldn't be happier with my choice. I can hear every string in the chord I play and the tone incredible. It's like I have a new amp. I highly recommend these speakers. My Sales Engneer, Aaron, at Sweetwater was also very helpful getting these speakers on order. They were not in stock but he got them to me rather quickly. Thank you Eminence and Sweetwater.
amazing !!!!!
we used this speaker in an old fender rumble 15 . I heard my bass player ( the speaker was for him ), use his 6 string with the amp. well the lows were so solid and everything was ridiculously clear . to say he was pleased is the understatement of the year. if you need a replacement speaker for a bass practice amp ,or a small amp for the studio this IS the speaker to get.
