Very Satisfying Practice Amp

By Phil from Indiana on November 15, 2013 Music Background: Engineer/Musician

For a small practice amp with an 8" speaker, this thing is pretty darn impressive. Its ported design puts out quite a bit more low end than you'd expect, without being obnoxious or flabby. The tube emulation actually emulates tube dynamics and even-order harmonics, rather than distorting your tone (unless you slam the gain), which provides a subtle but appreciable warming/rounding effect that responds smoothly to your playing dynamics. That's really cool!

You also really can't complain about the 3-band EQ, especially considering the price point. Even the mix control, which lets you blend in as much or as little sound from the aux input is a nice touch. I expected a decent little practice amp for messing around in my living room, but I really didn't expect to be blown away like this. What a nice surprise.

Getting Back Into It, this Amp Fits the Bill

By David Englert from Leesburg, VA on June 16, 2013 Music Background: Hobbyist

I had put the bass down for a few years, and was looking to get back into it, but in years past I would generally stay away from practice amps because the tone just wasn't there, and I would long for a better sound and usually end up buying something larger that I didn't personally need. Nick at (my SE) at Sweetwater told me about Ashdowns, and made a convincing argument given his personal experience and history of Ashdown, and I am happy I did the amp sounds fantastic one of best tones I have heard out of a combo amp. I guess the only thing I that kept me from giving it 5 stars I'm not sure how much better it was than some others at the price point, but at the same time i'm very happy with my purchase and more than satisfied with the tone i'm getting from Gibson and my Specter through this amp.
