Great Sounding Guitar

By John from Michigan on March 26, 2024

This is a very playable great sounding guitar. Don't let the materials it is made of concern you. I have Taylors that I have played for years and this guitar sounds every bit as good and even better run through an amp or a P.A. As the other reviewer here has said, it sounds more like wood than many wood guitars. I've played in worship bands for years and this guitar clearly cuts through the mix with a sweet sound. Try it you will like it!

High quality USA craftsmanship

By Scott on May 11, 2023 Music Background: Professional

First, the Sweetwater team was excellent as usual. I am a professional, both session and touring, and have many guitars and instruments, including several Ovations. While I certainly appreciate vintage instruments, I tend to prefer modern instruments that utilize the technology of today in addition to the instrument making experience we've learned over the years (I don't mean "mass produced"). Give me a modern, high performance instrument over a classic any day. This guitar oozes this as soon as you pull it out of the case. While Kaman and his team's ideas have been around for a little while… this instrument certainly isn't bread from the past 100s of years of traditional instrument making.

The guitar is much lighter than expected and just handling the guitar, you can hear the resonance due to the floating top and construction. The sound un amplified is much more woody and resonant than standard ovations… surprising with how much less wood is actually used on this one. More resonant and projecting than traditional Ovations, easily fills a room. I found the contour back shape to be very comfortable. The walnut neck has a very woody feel (helps "ground" the instrument for me) and refuses to get tacky under any performance situation. The neck is very comfortable to play… as all ovations seem to be with their lean towards electric guitar players. Amplified - this thing is a monster. Super big sound, plenty of tonal control via the pro studio preamp. Very happy with this guitar. Glad to see the team in the US is back to making instruments. Keep an eye on them for sure.
