Beautiful Guitar, with an even more beautiful sound!
I only paid for standard shipping here, the minimum basic no extra cost one, still got this thing in less than a week and a day before the expected delivery date. When I opened up the box and go out my new guitar I was immediately stunned by how gorgeous this thing looks. It came well protected by several layers of protective material in the box, and was also sitting inside of the nice-looking army green colored Taylor softshell case.
This guitar immediately sounded fantastic, didn't have to even THINK about making any adjustments, perfect tune right out of the box, it's been a few days now, still haven't needed to touch any tuning. Frets are very easy to press down on, beautiful tone and overall sound. Just perfect. The sound that this thing makes is unreal, I am getting such a more wonderful and full tone out of this thing, that I can just feel the sound surrounding me as I play. I haven't purchased an "expensive" type guitar before, and I've been playing on an Ibanez aewc32fm for the past few years, which is a guitar I really love but I decided it was time to get one that's a little bit more high end. This guitar blows that Ibanez out of the water! The sound coming from this is so much richer and fuller, I know which ones going to get the most use.
As I haven't owned a Taylor before, I was a little confused at first about the spot for a plug in. I looked and looked, and thought uh oh, this guitar doesn't have a plug-in port. Nope, the strap holder also doubles as the plug in. Which I'm not sure that I prefer over having a separate port for or not. But anyway, I DID plug it in and it sounded really great even playing through my kind of not so great and cheap speaker. Very crisp and amazing sound, and nice to have the adjustments right there to switch it up a little of wanted/needed.
I'm very happy with my purchase of this guitar, and I hope to have years and years of even decades worth of playing out of this one. Maybe I'll even pass it down to my son as his first guitar once he grows old enough to start playing(as of right now he gets to pluck around on a plastic ukulele, along with me playing the guitar, but I know he must like listening to the sound of this almost as much as I love playing it). Definitely feel like I made a good choice with this Academy 22e, I was in the middle between buying this one or the GS mini(koa model). I don't have the two side by side to compare, but I'm very happy with my choice nonetheless. Maybe I can pick up a mini next, then I will be able to do the side by side of them both. If you're looking for a (slightly) more affordable but incredibly high-quality guitar, this Academy 22e is a fantastic choice.
