Great for my online tutoring work
I am an online tutor for students with dyslexia. My students need to be able to hear me--and I need to hear them--very well. This headset and microphone combination does the job.
Great headset for gaming!!
Just got these today. I'm still used to my Logitech G35's, with the 7.1 simulated surround sound, so it took a little getting used to. I'm an audiophile, so I pick up on the tiny little nuances, especially concerning gaming and music. The first thing I did was play "Wish You Were Here" live, and got a little worried when the beginning only had the sound coming from the left ear. Then Gilmore came in with his acoustic solo... just right.
The headset is light, yet very sturdy! Most headsets give me a headache from the pressure of the earphones pressing so tightly. Not these! Another concern was the detachable mic. Not even an issue! And I'm PICKY about that kind of thing!
It's Audio Technica. A brand well known in and around the music scene for its functionality and durability, as well as affordability. It's not top shelf, but it's not a clearance bin item either. I definitely got my money's worth on this purchase. I just hope it holds up through my music and gaming like my Logitechs did!
Reviews I read on these as I awaited their arrival at my home, said they were a little "flat" on the sound. I found them to be just right. If you want more clarity, a good USB EQ or USB interface will clear all that right up. To me, however, they are just perfect. The bass response is great. My steps in-game I can hear them "thud", but not so much that they steal away from other ambient noises, which come through beautifully. The only way they could be better is if they were the simulated 7.1 surround I'm used to.
Quality
The fit is great and it doesn't cause me to sweat. Very comfortable and high quality with great sound.
headphone review
Very pleased with the low end bass response, comfort and the option of the quick disconnect of the mic boom. A bit high in price in my opinion though.
Very pleased.
This was exactly what I needed.
Iffy cable mars an otherwise fantastic headset
I picked these up back in April. It's November now, and the mic is on the fritz. I'm not sure if it's a loose connection on the boom, a short in the cable, or something with the mute switch coming loose, but either way it doesn't work. It's a real pity, too, because up 'til now it's worked beautifully, and they're very comfortable for extended wear (think 5-6 hours at a stretch). On the upside, the drivers still work just fine, so I can still use them for casual listening.
If these had a replacable cable, they'd be just about perfect for my needs. As it is, I find myself out of luck.
Not bad, but I expected more from Audio-Technica
These are good headphones; they are light, and the sound quality is not bad. No noise-canceling function exists, and you should not expect the performance of other high-end headsets you may have already experienced. The head pad is not optimal, and they start feeling slightly uncomfortable after a while. I expected a light headset offering deep bass, a clear voice, and a podcast-worthy microphone that I could wear all day, and I have settled for a headset that kind of blocks the noise in the work environment and from which I can enjoy okay music. If you are looking for entry-level headsets, they are priced right and seem built to last a long time.
