Fender American Acoustasonic Telecaster - Sunburst Reviews

Hybrid Acoustic-electric Guitar with Mahogany Body, Spruce Top, Mahogany Neck, and Ebony Fingerboard - Sunburst

Guitarists of diverse styles and tastes are finding their voice in the new Fender Acoustasonic Telecaster. Now you no longer have to choose between acoustic and electric sounds for the gig; this hybrid takes you from folk and bluegrass flatpicking to greasy rock and soul with the flip of a switch. The secrets are twofold: a comfortable SIRS body, built to resonate like an acoustic instrument while giving you the fret access and playability of your favorite steel-string, and the pairing of two cutting-edge premium pickup systems with powerful DSP. In the bridge position, you’ll find a traditional offset Tele pickup packed with bluesy grit and Texas twang, and just behind that, the Fishman Matrix under-saddle piezo system for the soft-edged cluck of your favorite direct acoustic. Seven distinct acoustic profiles take you from solo fingerstyling to Nashville singer/songwriter without additional pedals. An onboard rechargeable battery powers it all. Pair these with a great-playing American Professional profile Tele neck, and the Fender Acoustasonic Telecaster from Sweetwater equips you for whatever session awaits.

Fender American acoustasonic telecaster

By D.Wison from Hobart, In. on June 30, 2023 Music Background: I'm a couch guitarist.

Absolutely loving this guitar. Quality and playability is excellent. Great action and intonation is spot on, right out of the bag. Unplugged it is louder than I thought it would be but it is definitely meant to be plugged into an amplifier. I'm using a boss katana artist Mark II and it sounds great. I bought this because it was a thin line acoustic guitar and I'm very glad I did. This is the most expensive guitar I have ever had. I am glad I chose the American verse the fender player. I'm so impressed with this guitar I believe my next guitar will be a telecaster pro 2. The Sweetwater team is outstanding.

To Good To Be True?

By Ted Youker from Cloquet, MN on February 3, 2023 Music Background: Always Learning

I have had this guitar for 3 months now and it is awesome. Great acoustic tones, good tele tones, I love the mid position with blend nob fully up for acoustic and then just drop it all the way down and great overdriven tele tones. Plays like a dream which is a big plus but for me it is how light this guitar is. I broke my neck in two places over a year ago and I can no longer handle the weight of a traditional guitar. Thank you Fender for this guitar, without it I would have ended a 40 year plus career.

Exactly what I was looking for

By Sweetwater Customer from SC on February 23, 2022

First let me say how great it is dealing with Sweetwater and my sales engineer Alex Jasiak they work hard to figure out what your needs are and find the right product.
I wasn't sure this guitar was going to work for exactly what I was looking for and after Alex and I talked about everything I decided to go for it. I play in a couple of different groups, one is a duo acoustic gig and the other is a full band doing everything from Rock to country so I needed something that fit the bill and I wouldn't have to carry a lot of gear to the gig.
For the acoustic gigs I can switch between what ever acoustic body sound I want to use, this works great with you have two acoustic players and you don't want to try and figure out how to play it different. haha
The electric pickup gets you through about anything you would need to do and you can add pedals to make it kick.
Bottom line this is one of the best buys I've made and will probably end up playing it more and more.
Let's not forget that you don't have to plug it in to practice, by it's self it's loud enough that the wife doesn't have to close the door on you.... haha

Acoustasonic Telecaster surprise

By Dub Lynch from Center Point, Texas on October 26, 2021 Music Background: Singer Songwriter

I purchased the Acoustasonic based on independent reviews saying the guitar sounded like an acoustic guitar. And as advertised it has a great acoustic sound. My surprise was the ease I experienced when playing chords that on other guitars were a bit more trying.

Amazing guitar! Great service!

By Sweetwater Customer on September 2, 2021

This guitar is exactly what I hoped it would be. Sounds incredible with an amp; and actually sounds really really good completely unplugged just playing on the couch. The options are great and allow you to have the classic acoustic sound, the classic telecaster electric sound, and multiple choices in between. The guitar is light, easy and fun to play, quality built, and looks amazing (the sunburst is beautiful). Easily the best guitar I've ever owned. Fender has hit a home run! Sweetwater, especially Zach, made the purchasing and delivery process easy, fun, and smooth.
Thanks! Bill

Wow, Acoustasonic telecaster where have you been all my life?

By john sudia from hillsborough, NJ on June 12, 2021

Wow wow wow! She arrived this morning. Perfectly and safely packaged by Sweetwater. I reverently unboxed the axe, put it in my hungry hands and strummed a big fat G chord. Perfectly in tune and ready to go.
Seriously I'm so impressed with this guitar. I've been playing for well over 50 years and have many acoustics and electrics. I gig with bands and as a solo and this will be my go to for solo and band gigs from now on. I've been playing it all afternoon. Perfectly setup to my specs by Sweetwater, and the guitar itself faithfully produces varied acoustic guitar tones faithfully and great Telecaster tones. I'm so impressed. Thank you to Drew from Sweetwater who answered all of my questions and helped me choose the right sunburst. It's perfect.
The guitar is great and coupled with Sweetwater service, you won't be disappointed!

Versatility Deluxe

By String Slinger on March 24, 2021

Let's be clear, I am not an electric guitar player. But I work in a band that plays some rock and country, that requires more lead than an acoustic will provide. This guitar is the perfect answer for that. No need for two guitars, flip the switch. The acoustic tones are close to dreadnaught, and the electric tone is close to Tele. I did a lot of research and was still doubtful, but this guitar is quality made and super versatile.

Fender's technical Marvel

By Darren Thomas from TX on September 18, 2020 Music Background: New to Guitar this year

I'm new to guitar playing, having started 6 months ago. I've acquired a few Guitars now and at this point prefer the Acoustics for the tone and simplicity (no AMP needed). This Acoustasonic is totally different. It allows me to play without an AMP which still surprises everyone who sees it or tries it. It's not a Dreadnought, but it's much louder than you would expect, more like a parlor sized guitar. And when plugged in is just like a really nice Dread, or Grand Auditorium, or whatever selector you choose. Then flip the switch all the way to the back, and it's a Fender Electric. The technology in it has to be very sophisticated to pull this off. The first 4 (forward) position all emulate a type of Acoustic body shape or tonewood. And each has 2 targeted tones controlled with the back Mode Knob. Which is like a tone knob that goes fully CW for one model, and fully CCW for the other in that selector setting. AND any blend in between. The amount of control this gives you is just crazy. I'm sure for the purist, this is some kind of Evil creation, but if you're new or willing to try something new this technology opens up new possibilities... like playing a lead guitar LICK then switching to Acoustic and playing the rhythm part of the song... or practicing on an Electric shaped neck - not plugged in. I really like it. It's very light weight, and easy to play. It looks like a block of wood, feels like an electric and plays like an acoustic and electric. And of course Sweetwater let me pick my exact one, and got it to me super fast. Love those guys!

I CANNOT PUT IT DOWN

By Charlie Ellicott from CA on June 24, 2020 Music Background: Playing since '66, managing and booking since '83. Still going strong!

Awesome. Unbelievable. Fantastic. I like it, haha. This is the best addition to my collection I've made so far. Beautiful instrument, made by the best luthiers in Fender's shop, Ebony fingerboard on a neck so very easy to play. Light as feather. Play through your amp (I recommend the Fender Acoustasonic 90 watt model) or play straight acoustic. I always wanted a guitar like Lindsay Buckingham's but they are way out of my price range. Well, folks, this ain't that guitar but it sounds exactly like his for a quarter of the cost. And a shout out to my Sales Engineer, Toni Bush-Nord and her colleague Joe James who stepped up and helped me with this while Toni was on her day off. I LOVE Sweetwater!

Versatile Guitar for Any Gig

By Lawrence from New York on July 8, 2019 Music Background: Guitar

Used recently at an open Jazz mic jam session with a horn section and a second guitar. Perfect acoustic tone plugged into PA for comping and then at the flick of a pickup selector a nice single coil crunchy tone for taking a lead. This covered lots of sonic territories, super light and very articulate with notes! Don't hesitate - you'll want to play it all the time for any gig - be sure to use acoustic Bronze strings and treat this as an acoustic guitar first. My signal chain for the open mic was Acoustasonic > Compressor > Delay> PA/Amp.
Singer/Songwriters will love this guitar.

Not a gimmick: It sounds great!

By Nathan K. from Los Angeles, California on January 28, 2019 Music Background: Record Label Brand Manager, Producer, Guitarist for over 14 years

I don't own this but played it at the 2019 NAMM Show this past weekend. I thought it sounded great! The toggle switch allows numerous combinations of electric and acoustic tonal qualities, all of which produce crisp, clear timbres. It seemed to possess acoustic strings (albeit a pretty light gauge) tethered down to an acoustic bridge, but the neck felt and played like an electric. This is great for anyone who likes playing intricate leads while boasting resonant acoustic tones. I certainly want to acquire one of these when they are available for purchase!

Acoustasonic...Just what you would expect.

By Clinton from Oklahoma on February 19, 2020 Music Background: HS Orcestra/Jazz Band Project studio musician/engineer

If you are looking for a guitar that sounds like an acoustic but plays like and electric this is as close as you are going to get. The telecaster sound is close enough also. This is a neck heavy guitar...I recommend a counter weight on the strap. Even with the counter weight I use, it is still very light and comfortable. I've waited to do a review to get a real since of how this guitar feels, sounds and plays after the new wears off. My J200, D-28, Yari custom and Telecaster haven't been picked up and played since the arrival of the Acoustasonic. Not ready to sell anything but I truly enjoy playing the Acoustasonic.
