Fender American Acoustasonic Stratocaster Acoustic-electric Guitar - 3-Color Sunburst Reviews

Hybrid Acoustic-electric Guitar with Mahogany Body, Spruce Top, Mahogany Neck, and Ebony Fingerboard - 3-Color Sunburst

The newest addition to Fender's Acoustasonic family of instruments is the Acoustasonic Stratocaster. This powerful acoustic-electric hybrid gives you all you need to blend between guns-blazing rock and country leads and a veritable studio's worth of modeled acoustic tones, all with the comfort you expect from today's Custom Shop Strats. Sound too good to be true? Trust us: these guitars are worth the hype. Whether you're a Nashville session player or a Sunday music leader, the Acoustasonic Strat packs a wealth of great tones in its svelte frame. Fender's comfortable spruce-on-mahogany SIRS Strat body is built to resonate like an acoustic instrument without succumbing to the feedback issues of other stage acoustics. And its Modern Deep C mahogany neck provides effortless electric-like playability up and down the fingerboard. Acoustasonic's bleeding-edge 3-pickup system — a real Fender N4 Noiseless magnetic single-coil paired with a Fishman Matrix undersaddle system and percussive body-top pickup — takes you from Texas sugar to six distinct acoustic tones with the flick of a switch. Powering it all is a 20-hour rechargeable battery that supports simultaneous charge-and-play for non-stop musicmaking wherever you play out.

Fender Acoustasonic

By Todd Bordonaro on December 13, 2022

This is a great sounding instrument that has the capability of behaving like an acoustic as well as an electric. It plays easy and produces some nice tones. It's very light but at the same time has a solid feel. Highly recommend if you're not a big acoustic player but occasionally would like an acoustic sound.

if i had to have only one guitar

By Sweetwater Customer from Mass on January 26, 2022

i'm lucky enough to have several nice guitars, but if i had to pick just one, this is it. easy to play with pick and fingers, good acoustic-electric tones and screechy strat electric tones, easy to hold and carry around, cool looking, light weight, thin body, can use it without an amp.

Wonderful

By Lee Doughty from Port Townsend on April 19, 2021

Although the various "voices" aren't as far different from each other as I expected I found one that has a great sound when set up correctly with a Roland amp. Made me put my old Martin acoustic/electric up for sale. I couldn't find an electric guitar voice that worked well for me but I've got a Gibson Gary Moore BFG Les Paul that does that so I don't really care. There is a "depth" of tone on the Acoustasonic I've never been able to get on any acoustic guitar. I'll probably have to re-record some of my Utube videos. This is also the most comfortable guitar I've ever used. Fun to play

Love it!!!

By Jim Riley from Fairfax, Virginia on March 31, 2021 Music Background: Hobbyist and Home Recording

I recently received my Fender Acoustasonic Stratocaster in 3-color sunburst finish. I'm so glad I chose that finish; it's absolutely beautiful! The guitar was set up perfectly out of the box, and it only needed a bit of tuning. I love the design of the guitar and the electronics. It is very lightweight and simple in design. There are seemingly limitless tonal options for any style of guitar playing. Fender hit a major home run out of the ballpark with the Acoustasonic series, and I am extremely happy to own this guitar. A special thanks, as always, to my sales engineer, Mark Magdich!

Very, very close ...

By Peter A Taylor from CO on October 18, 2020 Music Background: Playing off and on (drums too) since the mid 60's

I love the look and feel of the guitar. Fender did a great job of designing the body, and the electronics. It is also very light and will be a relief on gig nights. What I like best is that I am able to eliminate one guitar from the stage (I play conga and harmonica as well as acoustic/electric guitars, and require a fair amount of real estate). So with my Harp Attack pedal, my Helix and now the Acoustasonic, I've really been able to save some space and relax. Sweetwater has always been great with advice and support. Okay, so the only "disappointment", if it could be called that, is that, on the electric side, it has none of the Strat tone that I would like to have. That said, with the Helix, I've been able to model a very acceptable sound.

Versatility and playability!

By Randy F. on October 5, 2020

Got my Acoustasonic Strat from Sweetwater about 2 weeks ago, and I've been loving it! I play rhythm guitar in a neighborhood classic rock band, and have been switching guitars between songs (between a Taylor 814ce and a Les Paul), and it's so nice to be able to get acoustic or electric voices just by clicking a switch on the Strat.
The acoustic voices are really rich and sparkly; the 3 electric voices (clean, semi-dirty, dirty) have that classic single-coil Fender sound. I appreciate being able to get the acoustic sounds without worrying about feedback.
As you'd expect if you've ever played a Strat, this one is very comfortable to play. Naturally, the acoustic strings that come with it (with a wound G string) aren't as slinky and bendable as electric strings, but it's a hybrid, so you've got to expect the electric side of its personality to be a little less sports car and a little more SUV. But on the acoustic side, wow, it plays well for strumming or fingerstyle. Overall, Fender did a great job with the design and playability; it's a hybrid that is greater than the sum of its parts.
The guitar arrived in perfect shape; it was double-boxed with plenty of cushioning, and the guitar was all adjusted to specs. Though I didn't think I'd ever buy a guitar over the web, Sweetwater made it about as easy and safe as it could be -- they provide plenty of photos (there were four guitars of the same model to choose from) and as I understand it, they'd take the guitar back with no problem if I had any concerns after receiving it. And the customer service was excellent!
All in all, 5 stars!

Great guitar

By Jay Haynes from San Franciso on July 15, 2020 Music Background: Almost 40 years of playing a Strat.

This is an amazing innovation in guitars. I have been a Strat player for almost 40 years, and I love playing acoustic. The combination is extremely useful.

First, it sounds wonderful as an acoustic, without any amplification. I use it in this mode for practice in the house. It is lower volume than a full body acoustic, but very audible and nice sounding at lower volume. So it works great when my wife and kids go to bed and I need to practice. I can hear rich tones, but not enough to wake the family.

Second, amplified, it sounds pristine as an acoustic. Direct into the PA it is beautiful, but I like having in plugged into my Fender Deluxe and using a combo setting between the acoustic tone and the Strat tone. I find this setting luscious as an acoustic sound.

Third, it is just way more comfortable to play than an acoustic, which of course feels like you have a big box strapped to your chest (because you do!). This feels more like a Strat with the comfortable contours for your right forearm, double cutaway, and contoured heel for your left palm at the neck and higher frets. Very comfortable.

It won't replace my Strat for pure Strat tones, but it works as a backup to my Start for live gigs in an emergency (ie. string break). It is also definitively an acoustic with Strat tones, rather than a Strat with acoustic tones, e.g. the G string is wound like an acoustic, so harder to bend.

My only medications would be:
1. change the USB micro (which is a horrible connector!!) to USB C, which is great (easier to plug in, reversible, and becoming the standard). That Fender chose the USB micro over USB C in this market is very strange and unfortunate. I hope they offer a modification.

2. enable it to play plugged in without battery power. The current version doesn't send any signal when the battery isn't charged. It has a long life which is great, but the guitar should work without battery power, even if the tone is compromised.

3. have a version that is more a Strat than acoustic (ie unwound G string).

But overall, it is great to see this type of innovation in guitars and I fully welcome it. I don't think I will ever go back to a pure acoustic.

Well done Fender!

Fender American Acoustasonic Stratocaster

By Sweetwater Customer on May 20, 2022

This guitar plays well and has some neat acoustic sounds.
But, trying to convince your customers that it's going to sound like an expensive dreadnought guitar plugged in is just a bunch of sales pitch because it does not.
I like it's looks, the electronics, the craftsmanship and the ease of playing it.
It's just never going to sound like a great acoustic or a Stratocaster plugged in, in any position.

Not worth two-grand!

By Kenneth Eginton from Parlin, NJ on July 25, 2022

This instrument doesn't know whether it's an electric or an acoustic guitar. Sounds like crap and is cheaply built for the price point!! Way over-priced.
