Great Budget EQ

By Kerwin Y. from Chapel Hill, NC

I use this as an insert within the Behringer 676 as part of my guitar chain. It does what I need it to do.

Very good

By Jack

I am writing this review because of some bad reviews this equalizer has unfortunately attracted. Unless the units used were defective, I cannot see a justification for the disqualifying or unfavorable reviews. Taking into account the price, this equalizer is very good/ excellent. One simply needs to know how to use it, not only not to plug a mic into it, but also how to set up the levels depending on the processed sound. Used properly this equalizer surprises with the quality of sound modulation it can produce even from cheap preamps.

Not For Studio Use

By connor h. from hayden lake
Music Background: exotic records

I bought this unit for studio use but after reading the technical details found in the paper manual, nowhere else are they offered, and found they dont meet my spec for my output chain.

Sweetwater stopped listing THD on basically every product. It wasnt always like that. because of that reason, you have to buy a product then return just to learn the THD. .1% THD is two orders too high for my output chain. I require .00X or .0X if X

What is an EQ

By Sweetwater Customer

For all I truly know this could have had or is, a 5 star EQ: what I do know is that it works.... The fact that I can have both high and low shelving allows me to control the sound, which is being played -- to get that right amount of base and yet to not let the highs go wild, but to sound. Given that I am only one mic, a drum machine, and electric guitar there is an incompleteness; still in all this, I truly believe it, this environment allows me to understand, use, focus and deal with frequencies.

Yeah it is a good EQ....

ART eq-351

By Randy R. from Cloverdale, OR
Music Background: AV systems tech

Great value for dollar. Good construction. Not as quiet as some of the high-end analog EQs of yore, but very reasonable for dollars paid. Nice to have several I/O connector options, and sweepable high/low pass.

Nice EQ if you know what you're doing.

By Jeff from Hobbs, NM

As with any piece of equipment this EQ is only as good as the knowledge of the person using it. I bought mine used from eBay because I needed an EQ for my guitar rack. I liked this one because of the filters so I bought it. With a little tweaking it sounds pretty dang good. At first it was making a hiss which went away when I hit the bypass button, but I was having a brain fart when I put it in my rack and put it ahead of the preamp. D'oh! Switched it around and no more hiss. The detents are positive and its built pretty well. maybe it would be a little easier to see if the faders were lit, but its not anbig deal. I have a modest guitar rig consisting of a Behringer Vampire head and a Bugera 4x10 slant, but the tone wasn't quite right, especially at high volume, so I expanded. I added a Behringer Composer MDX-2200, a BBE 402 sonic maximizer, a Peavey Ultraverb, and this EQ (and of course a power conditioner) and now I have the sound I have been looking for. Nice unit for the price if used wisely.

As for negatives, I don't know about customer support, haven't used them yet. Minor cosmetic issue, the outputs on the back didn't originally line up within the reach of a 6" patch cable. Not a big deal though, just thought I would mention it since all of my outputs are on one side except this one. I can't think of any more negatives about it.

Compressor Sidechain EQ

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Pro musician, Hobbyist home studio

I needed a cheap EQ for the sidechain input of a compressor. I use it to pull the kick drum out of drum loops and do very subtle ducking of bass/synth tracks. It's the simplest thing, but it turns a drum part and a bass part into a groove. It has a bypass button, handy high/low pass filters, and an output level knob. It's affordable and has all the features I needed. Having the RCA outputs made it easy for me to listen to the EQ'd sound to make adjustments. The tape input on my mixer was just about the only input left, so I appreciated the RCA jacks. I haven't used it for any other purpose, so I can't vouch for the sound quality. I probably wouldn't use it for anything else, but that's mostly because I prefer parametric EQ's.

The EQ-351 is a winner unless used wrong.

By James N. from Columbia, SC USA
Music Background: Songwriter and Christian project studio producer.

After adjusting this equalizer carefully, it appears to perform well. The constant-Q design insures that the response is predictable. A word of advice is this: do not think that you can do without a preamp by just plugging a mic into it and then cranking up the level control. The unit is designed to work with a preamp in front of it. If you just plug in a mic then you're asking for hiss. A preamp is essential. In general, line level into the equalizer is what is required. Horrible HISS

By Derek from NJ
Music Background: Drummer

I tried two of these, both produce a very high level of HISS. It goes away completely in BYPASS mode. But if you try to add some high end, it is unbearably noisy.

No thanks, returned them both.
