Are you hunting for a reasonably priced yet high-quality microphone preamp for your 500 Series rack? If so, the Fredenstein Artistic MicPre SE is an excellent-sounding mic pre with class-leading performance and numerous great features. For starters, this 500 Series module is built around a fully discrete op-amp, yielding 65dB of clean gain, and it boasts a top-notch high-impedance instrument input. You get switchable +48V phantom power, a -20dB pad, a low-cut filter, and a polarity invert. An ultra-precise, multi-colored LED peak meter rounds out the Artistic MicPre SE's generous feature set. Better than anything Focusrite
This is my first review ever. This thing blew me away when I got it set up and I did an A/B test with my Focusrite 18i20 3rd gen vs this mic pre se and overall with a high gain metal guitar, this preamp is WAYYY cleaner and just has an overall "finished" tone when I recorded a test. Hardly and cleanup needed EQ wise or anything. Perfect beginner mic pre and highly recommend
Great Preamp!
I bought this because of the price to try it out and I'm very happy with it.
Get more than you pay for!
This is a high quality preamp that excels at recording instruments both direct and mic'd. Clear, clean sound with no discernible distortion even at 3:00. The DI on the front is perfect for my home studio needs. The knob/buttons do not feel cheap. The fact that these can be had so cheaply blows my mind, you get so much more than you pay for (something that seldom if ever happens with studio gear). I purchased two, and As usual my sales engineer Joseph Secu got them to me fast and in perfect condition.
Good bang for the buck
Sounds good, a bit thin next to an API 512c but for 1/8th the price it definitely hit above its price class.
