Sonor AQ2 Safari 4-piece Shell Pack w/ Snare - White Marine Pearl Reviews

4-piece Maple Shell Pack with 10" Tom, 13" Floor Tom, 16" Bass Drum, and 13" Snare - White Marine Pearl

If you're looking for a hip little kit to gig out with, the Sonor AQ2 Maple Safari fits the bill. This 4-piece maple shell pack is perfect for funk, hip-hop, and swing ensembles, especially on quieter stages. Shells are built from rich, broadband maple and topped with a set of great-looking wraps for a professional fit and finish. Hardware advantages come in the form of Sonor's SmartMount tom-mounting system, which reduces metal-on-shell contact for greater resonance and sustain, and redesigned die-cast lugs, which are tour safe and tuning sound.

Sonor AQ2 Safari

By Sweetwater Customer on March 29, 2024

Love the kit, small but packs a punch. Perfect size for small spaces but also sounds great, so no compromise.

This kit is nuts for the price tag

By Sweetwater Customer on March 25, 2024

My favorite kit to gig with by far because of its, sound, size, and portability. Even the snare! Sounds amazing and at a price point where you're not overly concerned with damage during gear shuffles on and off stage during festivals. Pinstripes on the batter side mic'd with e604s and a 52a in the kick. I've been asked if they're triggered because the sound is so huge out front. Added an 8" tom to create a 5 piece kit out of the standard Safari shell pack.

Impressive 4-piece!

This coming March 2024 will mark 3 years of playing this kit at my church. I threw on some Istanbul Turkish cymbals (hat, crash, and ride) for a darker tone. Considering its price tag, the kit sounds excellent. The drum placement / maneuverability is a huge plus; there isn't an angle or position you can't create. Additionally, and obviously, it's a small frame / footprint, which is perfect for the environment in which I'm currently playing.

Great drums

Purchased Sonor AQ2 Safari kit and love it. Good sound and excellent hardware. Highly recommend this kit.

Quite awesome! Big Sound!

When I picked this kit up, I wasn't expecting much. Got it for my kids as I have a full DW kit I don't want them touching. It was boxed and packed well, with no damage to anything. The pearl paint look is nice and classy. The hardware was top-notch. I did, however, replace all the heads with Evans heads. The kit sounded good with stock heads, but the Evans heads really gave them a much much more 'punchier' and 'thump' sound. The snare sounded just as good as more expensive ones. I would buy this kit again over and over for a small cocktail kit.

Perfect rehearsal space kit

By Sweetwater Customer on April 9, 2022

Bought this to live in the rehearsal space, and every drummer that comes in loves it. Reasonable volume, great tones, easy to tune. The snare in particular is a standout of the kit. The kick is warm and blends well with lower-volume acoustic music.

Wouldn't use it as a primary for a heavy rock band, but jazz, pop, or theater players should take a look. Side note - this kit also fits perfectly inside the Pearl Uptown travel bags.

Absolutely thrilled! Versatility is unparalleled!!

We are now at day 5 of experience with this kit. I know it is soon in, but I have ZERO issues so far. I wanted something that sounded/felt good but was also ideal for transport. Although I will only setup/breakdown 2-3 times a week, the sizes could NOT be more on point for what I was after. The AQ2 Safari is my first experience with Sonor & it has far exceeded my expectations. The hardware is extremely versatile/easy to use, yet VERY durable for my use. The adjustment of the tom/cymbal mount/floor tom legs & bass drum spurs is simply unlike anything I have ever experienced in 20 years of experience. Amazing from start to finish & could not be happier!

Brilliant!

Just got mine today, and I couldn't be happier. This kit clearly packs a punch that is way above it's price tag. When it arrived, I checked everything out pretty thoroughly. Shells are very round, and the bearing edges are perfect. Not even a trace of sawdust or any rough or inconsistent patches. They tuned up easily with a set of Evans G2 heads and the tone is just amazing.

The snare that comes with this kit is brilliant. Loud, great crack, great tone. I can't wait to record it!

The bass drum was the biggest surprise though. Even with the stock UT heads, the thump I'm getting out of this thing is unreal. It feels solid as a rock, and if you tune it a little lower than you'd think you should, it really sounds bigger than it is.

The kit as a whole has a really good and consistent voicing, and I think the sizes all work very well together to make it feel like one instrument as opposed to just a collection of individual drums.

As for the hardware, it's built like a tank and everything is easy to use. Memory locks on everything, included cymbal arm is dope, bass drum spurs and riser are rock solid. Maybe a little heavier than a lot of the other micro kits out there, but when it comes to durability, I'd put my money on the AQ2. Sonor just really killed it with this series.

I paired mine with the Tama classic hardware pack and I love the look. If you're on the fence about this kit, just do it.

A-MA-ZING! Perfect for quick small gigs!

Cannot express my absolute love for this kit.

This was something I was gifted and I thought I'd leave a review.

I had a few gigs coming up and my good friend decided to surprise me with this little kit.

This sucker packs quite the punch and the tone is amazing. Granted the hardware is a bit different and took some getting used to(MAINLY the tom holder) but other than that, SOLID AS A ROCK!

Amazing Kit, and that Finish is just so classy!
