the size is perfect the sound even better !

By Kyle Sasser from DADEVILLE, AL on December 15, 2023 Music Background: aspiring professional guitarist

This guitar has excellent sound !! I use it when I travel or just wanna lounge on the couch,

Great for the creative process - amplify it for great recording & performance sound quality.

By SCOTT MITCHELL from LANCASTER, TX on April 26, 2023

Not as loud as it's predecessor without an amp but the resonance is there nonetheless.. and when amplified, Who can tell the difference? Excellent customer service - personable and professional, very reasonable if you have any issues or questions to ask. Packaging and shipping more than adequate - I'm a satisfied customer...

Nice Guitar for small people!

By Sweetwater Customer on July 13, 2022 Music Background: Hobbyist

I am 5'3" and I feel dwarfed by most guitars, which is probably why I have stayed a keyboard player for so long. I've recently experimented with parlor and 3/4 guitars. I own a couple of guitars I seldom play, an Ibanez travel, an old Yamaha G60, and an Ovation Slim body. Most of the acoustic electrics seem to have diminished and muddy sound when not plugged in. For the money, this fellow has reasonably satisfying bass and treble output without amplification. I would suggest you change the strings before playing. The low E string that came with this guitar is so rough that I may save it to file my nails. I put on a set of D'Addario 10/46 NYXL's which are not easy to string (the high E stabbed me relentlessly) but sound great (to me) and allow my tender fingertips some time to adjust to daily practice. The guitar itself is really nice looking and so far no buzzing frets or intonation issued noticed. It came well packaged and double boxed as is expected from Sweetwater.

Awesome Guitar!

By Captmjh7 from NC on June 1, 2022 Music Background: Intermediate

I'm not a professional, maybe intermediate, have a 'collection' of different acoustic and electrics, and which guitar do I pick up the most? You guessed it...the APXT2!
Obviously, acoustically it's sound is different than a huge full bodied dreadnought, but it's sound for its size is very impressive. Plugged in, well listen to some of the incredible players reviewing this guitar on YouTube.
For the money, this thing can't be beat.
Somebody mentioned figuring out how to get a pick guard on it. I make my own.

Yamaha APX T2 3/4 acoustic/electric guitar Black

By John Rotonto on March 24, 2022 Music Background: Played in several bands but now I'm gonna start home recording

I got this guitar at first for a novelty. Then I played it. Mind blown! It came up and slapped me in the face and gave me a reality check. It's plenty loud unplugged and has a nice playability and tonality. But when you plug this baby in, look out Loretta! Especially when I have it going through my Fender Smolder OD pedal and into my acoustic Amp with built in chorus. I'm an acoustic player exclusively but I have to admit it feels cool to channel my inner rock star. The on board tuner with the ART system that's environmentally friendly, the comfortability, and the cool overall look

Yamaha APXT2

By David Chapman from Minneapolis, MN on January 11, 2022 Music Background: Started in the early 60’s & had my first Band in 1963. I have had 3 Bands inducted into the Iowa Rock N Roll Music Association.

After many attempts to find a travel size guitar that sounds & plays as great as my other instruments! Thankfully Brian Kerns directed me to the Yamaha! I couldn't be happier & love the incredible tone when the on board electronics are added! Even the electronics it can cut through.
Thanks to Sweetwater & my "Guy" Brian Kerns for such professionalism & outstanding products!!

Small guitar, great quality and price

By Mason from USA on November 3, 2021 Music Background: Hobbyist

I got this thing a couple weeks ago and can't put it down. I'm on the short-and-skinny side and a big traditional dreadnought or whatever has always felt a little bulky and uncomfortable in my hands, so this little Yamaha is the perfect size for me. I don't perform live music, but it's great for my purposes- practicing at my desk and walking around my house with a strap. As a bonus, it's super playable right out of the box- they even include a couple batteries for the onboard tuner. Couldn't be easier.

It has a crisp, punchy sound and seems to stay in tune very well, but some players could find this guitar to the depth and resonance of a larger-body instrument. That said, it has wonderful volume and clarity and, personally, I love the sound. I'm even still using the strings that came on it.

As for Sweetwater: I couldn't find the same guitar elsewhere for less, the shipping was fast and safe, and of course Sweetwater's customer service team is the best in the industry.

I rarely leave reviews for online shopping but this deserves a perfect score from me.

Love this!

By Richie G on September 17, 2021

I have always loved Yamaha acoustics-and this 3/4 size is no exception. Initially bought for my young kids to play-this three-quarter size guitar is absolutely amazing and fun for me to play as well.
Great to strum seating at my desk when I have down time- I work from home currently- Highly recommend! And as somebody with bigger fingers I've always found Yamaha very easy and very movable when playing

Phenomenal Little Guitar

By Dave G from Northern Virginia on March 12, 2021 Music Background: Lifelong Novice+

I bought this for my daughter who is 14, but petite, and wanted something smaller than a full-size. I am truly impressed with the quality of this guitar. Played great right out of the box, with nice low action that I think is important for beginners to not get discouraged. And, no fret buzz... setup is perfect. Also, since it's smaller it's not as loud, which is a bonus for me. But, sounds great through the amp when you want to get loud. And has a built-in tuner. If you're looking for a smaller 3/4 size guitar that won't break the bank, this is it! (The one on the right in the pic)

Top Notch

By Sweetwater Customer on July 9, 2019

Great product and tremendous customer service. A+ all the way around.

Perfect! Unbelievable Value.

By Melissa on July 28, 2017

It is perfect.

I always thought I just couldn't play guitar as I struggled with an Ovation acoustic-electric for years. It always sounded "tinny" or "twangy" and being petite and 5' tall didn't make it very easy to handle.

This Yamaha APXT2 guitar is a perfect fit. I can move around on the fret board and strum with ease. When plugged in the sound of this little guitar is huge, smooth, warm ..... it just sounds so much better than what I used before.

This guitar is so very inexpensive that, honestly, we were suspicious of it at first. Yamaha could charge twice as much and it would still be great.

Really liking this guitar!

By Michael from Pacific NW on February 2, 2021 Music Background: For guitar - just a dabbler. Used to play pretty competently, hope to again before long.

I have yet to plug it in, so this review is only based on the acoustic format. I'm one of the many who are returning to playing late in life after quite a few years of not picking up a guitar. I play in my home and on my porch and just for fun. I had my full size (1970s Takamine) re-set in the Fall and found there are still a couple of fret issues that will need more serious work if I want to play it more consistently and comfortably, so I started looking at 3/4 and parlor guitars costing around what I figured the fret job might run. I wasn't able to connect with my sales rep to talk about other models (including one I'd put myself on the 'notify me' list for because it was out of stock). My rep had emailed and left me a phone message after I put myself on that list but was never reachable afterwards (I only left one return message and a pretty detailed email about what I was looking for, so maybe I just slipped through the follow-up cracks. It wasn't a big problem for me, but I mention it because there are a lot of reviews out there where the connection with the reps were such an integral part of the decision making process). When I happened across this Yamaha, the combination of style, reputation, reviews and overall value I knew my search had ended. I love the feel of the guitar - the action is (nicely) lower that I'd expected out of the box, the playing is smooth, and the neck is nicely sized for adult hands. I appreciate the narrower body width, and the comfort of the smaller overall size fits me just great - though I found a strap very helpful to keep the smaller guitar from slipping around. The guitar's tone is lovely - has some of that old style hollowness while still resonating beautifully, to my ears. Since its arrival, my full size has been resting comfortably in its case behind the den door and this has become my go-to guitar. I would (and have) recommend this guitar for its ease of play, quality of build, and overall value.

Little Giant

By Elvis on November 14, 2020 Music Background: Guitar passionista

Now let me start by saying that I'm what I call a hack guitarist, meaning that I taught myself how to play guitar many years ago and have always had a passion for acoustic guitars only [not electric!] Ive had many different guitars over the years from a couple of Martins,a Taylor, Maton,Gretsch ,a resonator or two and the list goes on and on!!,among all my previous guitars I've had a few different models in the Yamaha range and its come to be my favourite guitar brand as in the way they play and how reliable and consistent they are can not be faulted!,I had one of these APXT2 a year or so ago and sold it only to realise I missed it and wanted it again so I bought another recently in cool bad boy black!,I love the sound and feel of this little guy...for home practice and playing around on the lounge etc it is the perfect guitar.Well done Yamaha, youve come up with another classic!

Great 3/4-size travel acoustic/elec.

By J-Rod from H-Town on September 26, 2020 Music Background: 25 years of buying and playing.

For the money you're not gonna find a more decent 3/4 sized travel acoustic electric. I'm 6'3" and the neck and overall size of the APXT2 are very comfortable. The C size neck with a wider nut don't cramp your hand like other 3/4 size acoustics. Unplugged it sounds similar to a decent parlor sized acoustic. Plugged into an acoustic amp is where the magic lies. Yamaha did a great job with the pickup choice. I play the APXT2 through a 3 watt BlackStar Fly 3 acoustic amp and a Bugera AC60 acoustic amp. The pickup's pre-amp is powered by 2ea AA batteries not a 9 volt. Definitely lemon oil the fret-board and upgrade the bridge pins when you put brand name strings on it.

Perfect guitar to resume 29 year playing hiatus

By Robert. Shea+ Eve from Lad on February 9, 2015

Nevermind the look, the well rounded sound, the size and feel, but I've finally found the " right size" of a neck for the size of my left hand!!
Now I can play chords and fills that I always had difficulty with, which was a major reason I stopped playing so long ago. I'm THRILLED I tell you. THRILLED!!!! I've converted from Atheism to SWEETWATER and the YamahaAPXT2.....a new reason to LIVE(slight exaggeration) and. thanks must be offered to Jason Kovach. for his valuable assistance and his patience. with my endless questions. Give the man a raise, I say. A substantial one at that.....now if I could figure a way to add a pick guard....SWEETWATER is my god....thanks for everything!!! I'm already playing4-6 hrs. a day. My. wife thanks you also...she has the new/old husband back, and with that I take my leave - a perfect 25th wedding anniversery gift :)))))

Sweet little guitar

By James Antoon from Arkansas on January 3, 2014 Music Background: saxaphonist and new 2 year guitar player

I bought this guitar for my 100 pound wife to learn how to play. It fits her like a glove. She refers to it as beautiful and sexy if it were an accessory or purse that compliments her outfit.. Good pretty sound for such a small 3/4 size, beautiful finish. Have yet to plug it in and jam but have given it a run or two acoustically and enjoyed the freedom of the size. Strings are a bit too close for my comfort but I play a large dreadnought EPI D-14 with a wide neck. this guitar is perfect for her little hands! Tuning is a bit tricky and tight but holds well.

APXT2 3/4 scale Yamaha

By William from Brownsburg, In. on March 19, 2024 Music Background: Been playing rock/blues guitar for 52 years

Howdy,
It arrived in perfect shape, lowered the action a little and put better machine heads on it and it is good to go!
Thanks guys

Great little guitar

By Anthony Olsen from La Crosse, WI on September 13, 2022

Great intonation and quality for the price. Tuners are cheaper which is to be expected at this price but otherwise I recommend this and might buy another. Plus the APX's soundhole smells like a permanent marker which is awesome.

Mike

The description says 3/4 size I think it's closer to half but I played it and it sounds good and fingers easy over all I like it and it serves the purpose I bought it for which was to take less space when I go camping

Great little axe

This is not a toy. It is a serious stage worthy instrument. I have played many gigs with mine and always take it as a backup. The perfect travel guitar.

Just What I Wanted

By Bobby from Upstate New York on July 6, 2020 Music Background: Singing my favorite pop songs and just goofing off

I spend a lot of time in my room, in my bed, just relaxing in front of my TV. I like having an instrument constantly by my side that I can fiddle around with that won't take up my whole space. This guitar fit that niche perfectly. It may not have the best sound and it is a little difficult to tune, even with the built in tuner (why I'm giving 4, not 5 stars). But it's just what I wanted. Small, not too loud, and plays just fine.

The other part of my review is how excellent Sweetwater's customer service is. The first unit I received had a bad crack in the neck. Mitch Dazey responded to me in no time. He connected me with a tech who confirmed that the guitar was defective and sent me a new guitar in no time.

I've bought a few instruments from Sweetwater and every time the experience has always been excellent. I don't want this to sound like a paid endorsement but Sweetwater really is the place to order your musical gear online. Next best thing to a walk-in music store.

Great little guitar

By Keith Hunter on December 5, 2017

This Yamaha APXT2 is perfect for what I was needing it for. It is well made, the neck is narrow and easy to play. It"s fun to play, stays in tune and the built in tuner is well appreciated. Of course the sound is small but the tone is very warm for it"s size. The trick is to not expect too much and not overplay. Also, the paint job is very nice. Well worth it. Oh, by the way, my wife bought it for me for Christmas. Priceless.

Yamaha

By Shirley from Fort Payne, AL on September 15, 2022 Music Background: Professional Harpist (piano and percussion)

I would have rather had the Taylor but my current circumstances I have lots of expensive instruments including one concert grand harp and a celtic one and other instruments. I needed this to teach 5th and 6th graders Praise and Worship and really couldn't afford to spend alot of money. It's fine for what I need it for playing it live it's quality isn't that great but hooking it up to an amp it's better.

Suits intended purpose

By KD on November 3, 2021 Music Background: Play for the joy of it

There are only a few options for a 3/4 acoustic guitar with cutaway and in this price range. I selected this so it wouldn't be as loud as the full size and not bother others. The unintended benefit is I like the size compared to my dreadnought since I'm petite. It makes it more comfortable to play, so I do spend more time playing and more material with better ease (never realized the bulk was an issue). The cutaway is good since I loaned my electric guitar and found out I missed that feature. It resonates well relative to its size.

The neck is a bit heavy but is tolerable if just sitting. My fingers did get stained black from the fretboard, but once I play all the notes enough the stain will probably wear away on me. The low E & A strings sound "twangy", but the strings can be replaced at some point. Finally, not a deal breaker, but it would be nice if the whole finish was gloss not just the top. This I knew prior to selecting, but it's just something that doesn't feel or look nice. My other non-high end old Yamaha is full gloss that a friend "sold" me. I guess standards are lower than they used to be.

I don't mean for this to be a bad review, because I enjoy playing guitar and this instrument enables me to do so. It's ok not great. Just not in love with it. I didn't have the opportunity to try this or the other 2 choices because none of the stores had them available, but that's how things are nowadays.

Glad to have Sweetwater as an alternative to the giant online seller.
