Exceptional Value
I have always been an electric guitar player but there are some things that I want an acoustic for. I saw reviews on Youbue about this being so thin and comfortable to play. After going back and forth for a couple of weeks I just bought one and put 9-45 strings on it and lowered the action just a bit. It plays like an electric guitar - soft and smooth! I actually love it. I am blown away by the fit and finish on this guitar for the price - it is an exceptional value and exciting to have and play.
Nice size and tone
For the money, you can't do much better than this instrument. I'm mainly an electric player and wanted an acoustic to noodle around on and something relatively smaller; this Yamaha fills that need. Very nice tone both by itself and through my Mustang GTX amp. Very playable after a setup and a set of Elixir nanoweb light gauge strings.
Great guitar!
This guitar is a perfect fit for me. It's tone is a nice compliment to my Taylor and Takamine. This guitar is now one of my favorites!
Sweet Sounding Acoustic
I already owned a Yamaha Electric and wanted to give an acoustic a try. I gravitated to the APX Thin-line as I'm 5' 6" and wanted something that my frame would fit. Super glad that I picked this guitar. Love the tones that I get from this guitar playing unplugged as well as hooked to my Boss Katana amp. It's really comfortable for me. It is a little different than playing my electric but once I get more time with it, I know that I'm going to love this guitar.
Great investment
One of the best investments in my music career of over 60 year
Thank you Tyler Moore
I've owned this guitar for almost a year so time for a review.
I asked my Sweetwater expert to find me an inexpensive acoustic/electric with a small body so my shoulder wouldn't pain me as much during a gig.
Tyler suggested The Yamaha APX600. He said everyone there thinks they're great.
I liked the guitar right away, it was small(er) and it felt great. More importantly, it sounded great and played very nice.
But, my main guitars are expensive Taylor/Guild...how can I show up with a $ guitar? I mean, when I play a gig, lots of guys come up and say, "nice guitar", they're not going to say that about my little Yamaha.
And so my quest for a different guitar started and I want to thank Tyler for being patient with my returns. Finally, I just got sick of trying. I took the Yamaha in to my luthier and asked him to set it up. Here's what my guy said when I picked it up:
"How much was this guitar?"
"$"
"Man they sure know how to make a good cheap guitar"
The Yamaha is now a standard at my gigs, and now guys come up to me and say, "I can't believe the tone you get out of that little guitar". Yeah, that's cool.
The best guitar I'd ever own
It's very good to play for both acoustic guitar and electric players.
Great guitar
The guitar came out nicely!
Great sounding guitar
I played the EXP 500 thin line a long time ago .and really liked it so when I saw the EXP 600thinline in the Sweetwater deal section ,I bought it. what a nice guitar.I love the neck on it ,the body feels a little thicker than the EXP 500.but not that much piezo pickup sounds great and it looks beautiful.I never owned an acoustic guitar with a pickup I can use it with my Boss Katana amp on my next gig.as always, another good buy from Sweetwater!!!!!
Great sound!
I am a beginner and could not be more pleased with the sound this guitar gives! I love the onboard tuner - it's so easy to keep things tuned up! I didn't expect to have such a nice instrument for this price point. I will have this beauty for years to come and couldn't be happier with my purchase!
Fun!
I don't play acoustic very often and haven't had an acoustic for years. Bought this to have something that isn't really fancy but still sounds decent. I put electric strings on it and it still sounds pretty good. It's a lot of fun to play too!
Great guitar
This is a beautiful guitar that sounds great!
I love it
The APX became my go-to for gigs.
I have a couple of other acoustics and a bunch of electrics. The thin body on this thing makes it more comfortable to play and less feedback prone than a drednought sized guitar. Build on it is solid, frets are nice, well finished. I like the built in electronics, it sounds great plugged in and the tune is nice to have on it. I filed down the bridge ivory a little when setting the guitar up for myself and the odd shape of the sound hole made it hard to find a sound hole cover, so I made one myself. All in all it's a great little guitar for $300 bucks.
Battle Ready
I have owned three Yamaha APX500's and it has been discontinued and replaced by this guitar (APX600). There are some subtle but noticeable differences such as the former sound hole protector (plastic) is gone. This guitar uses two AA batteries rather than a 9 volt. Still a nice guitar for the money. The 500 had always been my go to guitar. For $… it's hard to beat. I bend my strings a lot and play an acoustic-electric rock style so it gets a work out and I wear out the fret wires in a few years. At this price it doesn't hurt as much to replace the guitar every few years instead of getting a re-fretting job. I take exception to any thought that this is only a beginner guitar. If this one holds out like the APX500 did, it's a road warrior!
Yamaha acoustic
Very nice guitar. They weren't joking when they said easy transition from an electric. I have a jumbo and this one is so much easier to play. Thin body but plenty of volume.
APX 600 a friendly guitar
Started with electric LP and LP clones. Tried big dreadnaughts and Jumbos and could not believe how huge they seemed. searched for an acoustic that was comfortable to play. found that I liked the feel and sound of the Yamaha. 3.5 inches front to back. scale within a quarter inch of the LP. a couple millimeters wider neck than the LP. Neck profile, to me is not unfamiliar after spending the last year with my electrics. To my ear is sounds great if not big on the bottom end but plugged in it is excellent with a great degree of adjustability on the 3 band eq which has an adjustable center frequency for the mids. onboard tuner is very nice, but I do wish Yamaha would have cut the output when in tuner mode. no biggy. I think it is a great guitar and if you started with electric, even better.
Sweetwater. they are a cut above I think. each guitar in stock at least at this level gets a pro photo shoot with good detail closeups which I used to pick this guitar as the detail is such that I could see the striations in the top and choose the one which appealed to me. Customer service top notch with emails and calls from the sales rep to make sure all is well and answer any questions one might have. next time I want gear, Sweetwater will sure be in the mix.
Great guitar
This is a great guitar, good quality, great value. The guitar had no issues, no flaws that I could find, good craftsmanship, really can't beat this guitar in this price range.
The guitar strings were new but I didn't care for them, they felt stiff and really inexpensive.
The action and string height was too high for me. I lowered the action and changed the strings to RotoSound 10s and the guitar plays great. This is subjective, each person will have to decide what feels good to them. I was going for an acoustic that I can play lead on and plays close to an electric guitar.
The Best Affordable Acoustic
Money well spent, in this economy. You can get a reasonable acoustic for a reasonable price but get this extraordinary acoustic instead. Very well made and solid. When new, the strings on it are cheap, but that's an easy fix. The action is a little high but also an easy fix... for a guitar expert. Don't do it yourself unless you absolutely know what you're doing. Very happy with my purchase and Tim Vanderpool is the guitar expert to go to. Great service always.
