Quality at a reasonable price

By William Bowers from Oro Valley, AZ on June 1, 2023

I like this guitar for what it is - a good quality lower end practice guitar at a reasonable price. I wanted something comfortable to play, inexpensive enough so I didn't worry too much when I take it out and had electronics for live performances. I am a huge fan of Yamaha mid range acoustics and this did not disappoint. Really good quality. Does not sound as full as my LL6 but that's to be expected as the body is so slim. Neck is pretty thin so it's nice and easy to play. Electronics are typical Yamaha quality - tuner and preamp with equalizer. All in all I think it's a good value.

A Great Country Guitar.

By Gerry Pair from Calif. on May 5, 2023

Well I just got done doing a Acoustic Show at The 39th Rolling on the River Motorcycle Run. For Capital City Motorcycle Club here in Sacramento Ca. My APX Guitar sounded just great. Big sound from a small Guitar. If ya want that big sound. At a small price. Buy a APX Yamaha. Ya will not be sorry.

Way better than guitar center

By Sweetwater Customer on November 16, 2022

The product wasn't just flawless but the customer service is beyond anything I've ever experienced from a company. Talking human to human is fantastic. And Sean has been incredible. Already looking forward to my next purchase.

Very nice guitar it's my first guitar, I find it was to play and sounds good. For the price I think it's a great starter guitar and maybe beyond.

I am always impressed with Yamaha products!

By Erik Jehle from Las Cruces, NM on July 26, 2022 Music Background: Blessed Professional musican full of love gratitude

This guitar feels well built, light and is easy to play. The sound is excellent for the price and size of the guitar. I'd owned mostly Taylor guitars until my friend (R.I.P) P.A Bill said I needed to try Yamaha guitars. I thought all Yamaha made were motorcycles and grand pianos. I now own only Yamaha acoustic guitars for two reasons: They are massively less expensive than Taylor and, I had an expensive Martin guitar destroyed by airlines. It was my own fault as I did not use a flight care, but seeing my baby broken into pieces really stung. So I buy guitars I am not afraid if they get broken. I've been playing all day and really like it. One thing I noticed is using a capo above the 4th fret gives the guitar a brassy tone that I did not get on expensive guitars. It's not horrible and may just be the strings, but for a guitar this price range, this is a winner!

Love This Guitar!

By Sweetwater Customer on July 25, 2022

This was perfect for what I was looking for...I am so used to my electric guitar that I wanted a thin-line acoustic and I looked at a BUNCH of them. Kept being told that you can't go wrong with a Yamaha, and everyone was correct! I did lower the action from how it came, and I am very glad that I did...just my own taste, but now it feels much like playing my electric guitar, which was my intent all along. You gotta get one of these if you are having trouble deciding!
Also, my sales engineer Nate Brown is the best, and is always happy to help out with my annoying questions! Ask for him if you can!

Took Her to Church.

By Gerry Pair from Sacramento Ca on November 30, 2021 Music Background: Country Player and Singer

I have had this guitar for a while. The music leader at My Church said how good My guitar sounded at Church. This Guitar is a Blessing to have. So Bless yourself and buy one.

Excellent guitar for the price

By Andrew Stewart from ROCKLEDGE, FL on May 20, 2021 Music Background: Novice

Great guitar for the price. Sounds great and is exactly what I was looking for, a small guitar that I can play on the couch or practice quickly during the work day. Lets be honest, this is a thin guitar, so if you're looking for unplugged sound of a full-size, you need a full-size; However, this guitar sounds great for it's size. Plugged in, the sound is excellent. Out the box, the set-up was great... Even made it to me (mostly in-tune). Action is higher than I would like, but still playable. Nut and truss rod appear to be set-up great, but bridge will need to be taken down a bit. All in all, very happy with the purchase and I look forward to playing the guitar! Also, shout-out to Keith and the rest of the Sweetwater team for the excellent service!

The Perfect Gift!

By Lori from Michigan on December 28, 2020

This guitar is the exact one my son wanted. I have been trying to find it, in the color black, for months. After failed attempts to acquire this guitar at other retailers, I was able to secure one from Sweetwater. The guitar is great, my son was thrilled to receive it, and the attention to customer service by Sweetwater will make me a returning customer. Thank you!

Most Playable in 50 Years

By Robert Ringo from La Quinta, CA on June 11, 2020

I bought this guitar for my son a few months ago. I have played for 50 years and have strummed and picked at least 30 guitars over that time. This is the easiest playing best sounding guitar I have ever played. I just ordered one for myself. Same color, black. I have never been happier with a guitar. And Sweetwater has been very pleasant to work with. Five Stars all around.

Great sounding guitar

By S.M. from St.L on January 8, 2020 Music Background: actively playing in a band (Always support the live music in your city)

I played the EXP 500 thin line a long time ago .and really liked it so when I saw the EXP 600thinline in the Sweetwater deal section ,I bought it. what a nice guitar.I love the neck on it ,the body feels a little thicker than the EXP 500.but not that much piezo pickup sounds great and it looks beautiful.I never owned an acoustic guitar with a pickup I can use it with my Boss Katana amp on my next gig.as always, another good buy from Sweetwater!!!!!

Yamaha APX600 Thin-line Cutaway

By Paul from MN on October 6, 2019

For the money, these are excellent guitars. Action is great. Intonation is great. Sounds great. The best part is that this guitar is very easy for an electric player. ...especially for someone used to shorter scale guitars (SG / Les Paul). The smaller body and shorter scale make it very comfortable and easy to play.

Yamaha APX600

By Norm Cote on April 19, 2018 Music Background: Fun and gig also, play in 2 duos and one 3 pc.band.

This is a really impressive instrument plugged in or unplugged!!!
I'm always playing gigs and I own a Taylor 414CE but it's really not made to play 3 to 4 hours due to it's ergonomics, I play up to 35 songs in one night and using the Taylor I'm in agony, along with that it doesn't have anywhere the tonal ranges as the Yamaha (plugged in) not even close, I also like the neck and shorter scale as I'm primarily a lead player and back the vocals and rythym!
Replace strings with Elixir, set the string height, love my new Yamaha Apx600!!!

Perfect as a beginner acoustic.

By Pharis Philpot from Columbus, IN on December 20, 2022 Music Background: Amateur guitarist/drummer

I typically play single cut electric guitars and I think the APX600 is an incredible transition to acoustic guitar. I love the neck profile and weight. Nato wood must be very strong for its density because it has a slim profile akin to a mahogany neck, but it's light like a maple neck. I haven't used the electronics much yet (personally didn't buy it for the preamp at all) but I've been pleased with the acoustic tones thus far. I would highly recommend a setup from Sweetwater as well because this is already a great price and a professional setup virtually eliminates the woes of fighting a "cheap" instrument. Lastly, thank you so much to Michael DiGiorgio for making every transaction seamless!

P.S. 4.5 rather than 5 because I did not choose to upgrade to an aftermarket nut/saddle with my setup and I think that's probably the only way to get this beauty to a 5/5 tone/playability wise. I'm not as concerned with plastic versus bone but I think a blank nut/saddle would give the luthiers more to work with. I think for the price Yamaha and Sweetwater are both 5/5 here, but I wanted to objectively review the guitar.

Almost perfect

By Frost from OH on August 6, 2021

The only thing I'm not entirely happy with is the action. It's just a little too high. Other than that, I love it. It's a very nice looking acoustic for the money. It stays in tune extremely well and I was shocked at how full the sound was even with such a thin body. Sounds even better plugged in. The thinner body is super comfortable to handle and hold. It makes the transition from electric to acoustic very easy. The built in tuner is one of my favorite features. It works great and seems to be as accurate as any other tuner I've ever used. Overall, I would recommend this acoustic to anyone on a budget looking for a great sounding and feeling acoustic who doesn't mind the action a little on the higher side. (Side Note - I might be too critical on the action since I'm used to my electrics set up for such low action.)

A Step Up.

By Clarence Chavers from Cleveland, OH on June 16, 2021 Music Background: Professional Guitarist, Singer, Recording Artist

Before I bought the APX 600, I did a lot of research. Firstly, that wasn't the model I initially wanted, I wanted a jumbo or dreadnaught. On various youtube demos, I noticed that the APX 600 sounded at least as good PLUGGED IN as the larger bodied guitars when they were plugged in, and that's how I work, as a rule. Then, I had a chance to play a larger bodied Yamaha, and then an APX 600 and found the 600 was more resonant than the APX 500 I owned for 12 years. The APX 600 had upgraded sound and playability, just as the ads, and other reviewers had stated, so I pulled the trigger!

I decided to use SW even though there is a another music store 10 minutes away. Brad Irvan was thorough and conscientious in our previous transaction, so I decided to use SW, and the guitar was perfect, and well set up. I am very happy with my relationship with Sweetwater, and recommend them to all.

Nice guitar at this price point

By Mark from Coventry Township, OH on April 10, 2021

Purchased for a friend . This is an great guitar for a beginner or to gig a little.
Looks great. Sounds good unplugged, but when plugged into an amp sounds great. Onboard tuner is great. Comfortable size. Tone and volume controls don't really seem to make much of an impact. Somewhat unresponsive, but a decent amp compensates. Stays in tune . Overall good acoustic.

Thin body Acoustic

By Sweetwater Customer on October 9, 2020

Am very happy with the instrument and Sweetwater. They shipped it immediately and I received it in time to give it as a gift to my son. Thought it would be easier to handle being a thin body and cut away. He's just learning and he has been very happy with it. Sounds great surprisingly loud nice tone and the intonation was spot on. Comes with a built in tuner and EQ when you want to plug in. Impressive finish, I picked the black but if I bought it all over I would have gone with the red finish. I may just do that and buy one for me.!

YAMAHA APX600 Thin-line Acoustic Electric Guitar - Black.

By Sweetwater Customer from CA on December 11, 2023 Music Background: Guitarist / Musician.

It's a GORGEOUS, slightly smaller guitar than a dreadnought. I love the glossy black finish and the abalone Rosette around the sound hole.

I did not expect for the strings to be so close to one other, which for me, kind of makes it difficult to play chords, as I have to really squish my fingers together on some chords. And all four of my fingertips on my left hand turned black from the fretboard. What is that about? I've never had that happen to me with any guitar I've ever played.

The action is a little bit high and could use some adjustment. The sound is fine for a thinner depth guitar but it does not resonate like I'm used to with my other acoustic / electric guitars. The sound is a bit duller, more quiet even when I use a pick to play.

I am a seasoned guitarist, not a professional though, perhaps this axe would be better for actual beginners, or someone wanting to get back into playing.

I had read most of the reviews before I made this purchase, but nobody mentioned these things. I'm afraid I'm going to have to return this one back to Sweetwater, unfortunately. By the way, I stand by Sweetwater, they have the BEST customer service compared to any other musical equipment business that I've ever dealt with in my entire life, and I really mean that! I absolutely love SWEETWATER! The staff rocks!

Great Guitar for the Price

By Dino1956 from Florida on June 27, 2023 Music Background: Musician

I've played this guitar in many stores and most sound and feel great. The thing about guitars is although these are made on a cookie cutter assembly line, each one still plays, feels and sounds different. These were on sale a month ago for $. I'm waiting for them to go back on sale. I tried one in a guitar store by me yesterday and 2 things that kept me from getting it. One it was white & I want Black and two there was a buzz on the "B" string. I have 2 Taylors and a Yamaha 12 String so I can wait. I want this guitar for traveling and knocking around fun without the worry due to its inexpensive price. I at first was going to buy it here on Sweetwater but then I found out they don't do setups on $. guitars, so that's another reason for my hessitation.

Yamaha APX600

By Mike from Pa. on August 18, 2020 Music Background: 40 + years touring and recording

For a smaller body, smaller scale acoustic, the sound both acoustically and electrically is great.
I don't know how they did it, but they did! Thanks go out to Ed Needler, my Sales Engineer who always is there for my gear needs!
Stays in tune fantastic. The tuner and 3 band EQ all work nicely. Also the input jack is in the strap button, nice touch!
Only downside was the strings were very high at the 22nd fret, but sanding down the bridge fixed that.
All in all I would definitely recommend this guitar!

Disappointed

By Terry Hoffman from Albert, KS on August 24, 2022 Music Background: Professional Musician

After reading and watching reviews of this guitar I really thought this is what I had been looking for. I finally did get my hands on one but, I was really let down. Yes it was the smaller body and, it was thinner than the dreadnaughts I have been playing and, it looked good. This was all good and, that's where it stops.
The action was not good, hard to play. The electronics were weak and, cheap looking. I had to open the volume wide open to get any acceptable output.
At this point I put it back in the rack. I tried an Ibanez thin body nice looking but, the electronics were unacceptable also. Looked at a Fender, Cordoba, and, one other but, not what I was wanting or needing.
Way back in the corner something caught my eye, thinnest body acoustic I had ever seen and, beautiful wood finish and Fishman electronics. I immediately grabbed it off the rack. Felt good, looked good and, the action was superb. Sat down and, strummed and picked for awhile all acoustic, easy to play and the sound was crisp, clean and full for such a thin body grand auditorium size it was perfect!
Plugged into a Fishman Artist amp and, with the Fishman preamp volume set at half volume it was superb, plenty of eq,had the eq controls on the amp set fairly flat and, used the eq on the guitar to dial in a Great sound!
I am shocked to say it was a Mitchell mx430. I took it home. Maybe Sweetwater won't like this review but, it's exactly what I found, sorry guys.
