API 312 500 Series Microphone Preamp Reviews
Huge, punchy drums, in your face. Beautifully open vocals, loud ’n’ proud, front-and-center. Big guitars, wide as a barn. This is the classic American sound of API. Countless iconic records were recorded through API consoles in the Golden Age of Analog, every mic pumped up larger-than-life through the legendary 312 microphone preamplifier outfitted on every channel. Today’s API 312 mic preamp is based on API co-founder Saul Walker’s original design, and it serves up that coveted analog warmth and girth, along with massive headroom. It’s the inimitable sound of API, and it fits right in your lunchbox.

Instrumentalist Must
I recently acquired 3 in my studio for recording guitar tracks and I Have to say that the clarity and character of the preamp makes a world of difference. Before, I was using a cab clone out of the amp into an interface but I felt the tone had too much bite on certain parts. Invested in the 312 and 3 mics and can immediately tell the difference in tonal quality. These are a necessity for instrumental recording

Super warm
Such a warm tone and character. Currently using it with electric and acoustic guitars, bass, and vocals. It SHINES on vocals, fantastic everywhere else as well.
