The ONLY Ableton Controller
The APC40 is the only Ableton controller I need. Straightforward for session view. Can be helpful in arrangement view. What sold me was that it has things the Ableton Push Controller doesn't and is much cheaper. The track faders, cross fader, and a cue knob are just what i need . Dedicated solo, record arm, mute buttons are a huge plus. Pretty solid build as well. Seems sturdy enough to haul around for tons of gigs.

Clip-stop buttons are recessed so they are easy to find in the dark!
The 8 pots above the tracks have triple functions; pan, sends, and, best of all, a User button lets you assign on-screen controls in Live to the pots - no need for another controller to assign miscellaneous controls.
The colors you assign to tracks in Live are reflected on the clip start buttons, making it easy to set up a color-coded system for identifying clips.

Superb controller for Live Session view
For me, this controller is absolutely superb for Live's Session view; lighter, runs on USB power, temp knob, layout, colored matrix buttons reflecting the matrix in live.. a Major upgrade from the APC40, IMO.

Great controller for Ableton
As long as you buy this knowing it's best suited for performing what you've already built in Ableton, you won't be disappointed. This does what it was built to do perfectly. If you want to play midi notes to your software synths with it, probably should look at the Push.
