We are a group of classical musicians trying our hand at electronics for the first time. We were worried but the M Audio is so easy and user friendly we were all up and running in nontime flat.

Works Great!

By Sweetwater Customer on January 16, 2021

The interface is very sleek looking and functions very well. The knobs and jacks seem to be made sturdy enough to withstand being moved around a lot. Sound quality seems on par with other interfaces I've used. Would recommend especially for the price!

Fantastic pro results!

By Jason Littlefield from San Diego on October 1, 2020 Music Background: Full time musician

I've been a professional musician for 30 years and prior to Covid 19, I avoided home recording because... I could. I play mostly upright and electric bass and I was perfectly happy letting an engineer put a U87 in front of me and running it to a Neve board. But these are strange times and I needed something easy to use, sound good, and not break the bank. This interface is the solution for someone like me. Unlike the other reviewer here that said it won't work with Logic Pro X, I use it with Logic Pro X exclusively. I plug electric basses in directly, and I use a CAD M179 to mic my upright bass. I recently asked the engineers I normally work with if the tracks I send them are up to snuff, and they're all thrilled with the results. I honestly see no need to upgrade my home rig anytime soon, besides perhaps replacing my 8 year old Mac. For a hundred and twenty bucks, you can't go wrong.

Solid build quality and performance

By Michael Murray from Maine on May 25, 2022 Music Background: 34 years on guitar, multiple bands, 20ish years personal home studio stuff.

Overall I really like this interface, I'm getting a 9ms round trip tracking guitar and bass at 24/96k with a 256 buffer, so it practically feels like tracking with a live amp just monitoring the VST output. There's a minor annoyance here though, the instrument channel seems to have built in compression on it which is great for low input sources, but my Dean with stock pickups still clips slightly with the input trim all the way down. I'm going to mostly blame that one on myself though, my bridge pickup rides a touch high bass-side and I beat the snot out of my strings tracking rhythm on that guitar, so most people probably won't have that issue. I will say the input is super quiet and clear, and all the knobs feel great too. The only other gripe I have is it seems a bit temperamental on occasion, but it only seems to happen if I leave a project long enough for the computer to go into sleep mode. When I wake it back up the audio gets distorted and weird, but a quick reset of the audio engine makes it all betterer again. I would absolutely recommend this interface, totally worth the price for me.
I saw a bunch of horrific reviews on this across the web I wanted to touch on too though.
One I saw said it was just completely incompatible with AMD systems. I'm using a Ryzen 5 system, no issues there.
Another said they couldn't get drivers or they were years out of date, it's right on their website easy as pie, and the latest version is like a year old which is perfectly fine for a device like this.
The last one I remember said it didn't work on a USB-C port even though it's a USB-C bus powered device, again yes it does. That was a specific feature I wanted in an interface because I have a USB-C port right on my motherboard, that's how I use it, no issues. I do wish it had a power switch but most interfaces don't anyway, I just got a USB-C extension cord and unplug it there so I don't wear out the plug on the device or my mother board.

Nearly perfect

This interface does absolutely everything I want it to with 1 exception- it outputs its 2 channels as stereo instead of 2 mono channels. I fortunately don't need to use both inputs at the same time unless I'm just recording (then I can split it into 2 mono tracks) so I don't particularly mind this and have just set it to be a mono input in windows sound. Overall very recommended.

Perfect for the price but.....

Love the M-Audio air, Im able to record guitar and vocals easily and the big knobs are a plus. The only issue is I cannot find a case for it.

M-Audio AIR 19×24

By Sweetwater Customer on March 9, 2020

I like the interface I purchased. It worked well with my existing DAW. The ProTools first application that came with it needs some work. I wouldn't work with my laptop, b I use Nuendo as my primary recording, mixing and mastering DAW.

Good sound with a caveat

By Sweetwater Customer on May 15, 2020

Everything works great and sounds great but occasionally audio playback will play in somewhat of a bitcrushed format and the only way to stop this from happening is to unplug and replug back in - very frustrating. If I could return it I would.

might just be me

By brandon wagner on October 14, 2022

i bought it few months back, and it worked amazingly, but I noticed after I recorded a few lines, the audio would become distorted and messy, like I was in a lava pool, so I'd have to close my DAW and reopen the project, it's a great interface. and M audio didn't help me, and sweet water tried everything, so I do recommend it, but be aware it could happen to you

Junk

Good Quality but Problematic

By Dawson on April 29, 2021

I couldn't get it to work for whatever reason. Went through all the steps of trouble shooting and it just wouldn't send sound to my programs. I could hear it through the headphones, but the interface and protools said it wasn't picking up sound despite all the settings being correct, everything being up to date, and all the Windows Settings being checked. I heard from a few other owners that these had software issues in regard to Windows 10 and many couldn't find a permanent solution.

Build quality was nice, and it had a refined look. It just wouldn't work.

Terrible Quality, Harsh Audio

By Jack Butler from California on April 30, 2021 Music Background: 5 years of band experience, solo rap artist

I understand this is a cheaper audio interface, but this thing sounds absolutely terrible. I purchased it along with the M audio studio bundle with the hope of getting a studio set up I could use for a while, but after only a few months I am fed up with this. It makes my Shure SM7B sound terrible, and I would not recommend this. Most people just buy it because of its looks, but I'd recommend finding something else.
