AG for the win.

I'm a big Aguilar fan and this unit doesn't disappoint.
Took a while for me to get it, but I'm glad I did.

I'm very happy with this amp, delivers what you need when it comes to power and sound.
This is all you need for any gig....

Love it!

By Evan Chronister from Centerton, AR on December 1, 2023

Just got the AG700 last week. Paired it with a DB-410 cab. Though I haven't heard them in other configurations, this combo is a powerhouse. An amazing blend of punch and clarity. I'm not going back.

Nothing as ligjt and versatile as this head-

If you need to cover all your 'Basses'!

By Jon from Henderson, NV on April 9, 2023 Music Background: Pro Production guy by day, bass & guitar player by night

Background: I'm a bass player and a production guy. I use an older AG500 on a 4X10 at church and love, love, love the way it sounds. When it came time to get backline gear for my venue I looked over all of our past riders to decide which items to get.

The big problem I had, however, was that we had requests for Ampeg, G-K and SWR amps and no one player will be happy with a GK if they asked for an Ampeg and vice-versa. Knowing that this head can go from very flat/modern to big and full I chose the AG700 with an Aguilar 4X10 cab. What a good decision. This thing is great - clean, punchy, full - whatever you want from it!

Now, as I said, I'm a little biased because I've enjoyed playing the amp for years. Now, many others will discover this somewhat unknown option!

Big sound, small footprint

By Sweetwater Customer from MA on April 9, 2023

Beautiful transparent sound. Such a good reference head for this reason. It works in every room I bring it in with minimal EQ adjustments. This head paired with a 4ohm SL 4x10 is such a monster combination that won't break your back. Been my go to rig for every gig I've had in the last 7 years. I remember when bass amps were about 1 pound per watt…what a long way we've come!

Versatile, multipurpose light amp

By Sweetwater Customer from FL on February 6, 2023

I was headed off to a small club gig and grabbed the wrong case by mistake, I thought I had the TH 500 case but I couldn't go back so I hooked it up and fell in love with it, even on small set ups. Running it direct to PA is also great, no tweaking needed. It used to be TH 500 for small gigs and the AG 700 for larger, the new TH 700 is interesting tho...

Awesome

By Mac from Miami, Fl on June 22, 2022 Music Background: Backline and AV

This bass head is wonderful. Tone is amazing, the punch is in your face, and the sound is so warm yet versatile. Between this head and the Tone Hammer 700, I'm TORN!

Over all an excellent amp. Cons and Pros list lincluded in review.

By Tom Lawrence from Georgia, USA on September 20, 2019 Music Background: Decades of bass playing

Cons

- The 'whisper quiet' cooling fan isn't. It doesn't howl, but it's definitely louder than I expected. I only sit arm's length from it to play, so this is an exaggerated situation for me, but it's worth noting.
- When the EQ is flat, the sound is really, REALLY, almost sterile-ly clean. No character to speak of at all to my ears; however see the Pros section next.

Pros
- It's got plenty of power. I'm running it into an Avatar B212 (8 ohm, I'm almost positive) so I'm getting 350W continuous. It's loud enough that I set the -10dB switch on the input just so I can turn the Gain up enough to light up the amp. Even so the Master is still very low for home practice play.
- The EQ is extremely responsive. As I listed in the Cons, when the EQ is flat, the amp sounds sterile; however, I bumped up the High Mid and Low Mid controls very slightly and the tone rounded out and picked up a tiny amount of grit from the guitar. It went from "meh" to "oh yeah" startlingly easy, and I get the impression it will be tune-able to any room.
- I'm a "set it and forget it" type of player when it comes to amp settings -- preferring to get most of my tonal variation from pickup balance and fingers. This amp is very responsive to that approach.
- It's little. Having come through SWR SM900 and Carvin R1000 formative times, this thing is tiny and light.
- Being Class D solid state, I expect it will sound exactly the same every time I turn it on. This is a big deal to me. I don't know how guys with tubes live with the inconsistencies of glowing glass. I can't do it.

Over all, first impressions are excellent! Glad I got it.

Best light weight bass head

By Sherman Hathaway from OH on June 19, 2019 Music Background: bass player and live sound

This is the best sounding light weight head I've used to date. I'm really liking the
tones I can get with out having to adjust every few songs. This amp is very responsive
and has lots of power. This is the 3rd head I've used that is light weight and small but
still has the tone and power needed, still easy to control. The other 2 are still used but
are now back-up amps. Very satisfied so far.

Killer tone!!

Clear, punchy, and simple controls. Love it!!

Killer Amp

By -Cadillac Johnson from Fort Worth TX on October 1, 2018 Music Background: 50+ Years Full Time Musician

I bought the Aguilar AG 700 as a back up amp to my Mesa Subway D-800 +, but find myself using it as a "go to".
Great tone and plenty of power. The Deep switch or button, takes me where I need to be.
As always my man Kenny is an extreme pleasure to deal with, as is the entire staff at Sweetwater Music.
I"m plenty happy with the Aguilar AG700.
Thanks Sweetwater and Aguilar...!

AG 700

By Dennis "Denny" Mease, M.Ed from The Woodlands TX on August 23, 2018 Music Background: Worship Ministry bassist

My new AG 700 is fantastic! I has exceeded my expectations already. I love my older bass heads, they are great but they are really heavy. The AG 700 is incredibly light - 4.9 lbs. The best part is how clean and powerful it is across the sound spectrum. If you're looking for a powerful, clean, lightweight bass head, look no further!

Future Looks Light

By Bob Birch from South Dakota on January 10, 2018 Music Background: Rock Bassist

Having played all kinds of heads for the last 45 years, the class D amps are a nice change, from the boat anchor amps I've used. Having used some micro amps in some backlines, the AG 700 is head and shoulders above any other brand, the low and bright boost add a very aggressive flavor, paired with a MM Sterling, P&J basses this amp makes my ears water! For the downside off no rack ears, Dan V. suggested a single space shelf which worked perfect, Thanks again!

Best Bass Head I've ever owned

By Shane Campbell from Jackson, KY on August 13, 2017

I have owned quite a few Bass heads in the last couple years that have been good to great but the Aguilar AG700 is the best bass tone I've ever had. I've owned Mesa 800 and the 800+. I've also had the Genzler 800 and all have been very good. This Aguilar is the combination of Old School character I've been wanting with the Clarity needed to really stand out in a mix. I couldn't possibly be happier with this head. It with the combination of My Genzler BA210-3 array cabinets are a match made in heaven.

Wonderfully versatile new AMP

By Eric from Buffalo New York on July 19, 2017 Music Background: Decades of live performance and studio work

Incredible versatility, this is a head for accomplished players who need/want more than a 'muddy thud' to hold the music together. Amazing lows, highs and mid range performance and enough 'horse power to smoke the tires'....thanks Aguilar, you've done it again, Home Run!

Great, clear and open tone

By Bart from NE Ohio on June 25, 2017 Music Background: Bassist 35+yrs guitarist 10yrs

I was interested in 3 amps as potential replacement for my Markbass Little Tube 800 as my Markbass just seems too muddy and I'm having to use an ISP Beta Bass Preamp pedal to get the tone I'm looking for. Percussive blues/funk, chords, finger style and harmonics type of playing.

I was evaluating the following 3 amps - 1) the Mesa Subway 800+ 2) GK Fusion B800 and 3) AG700. I was at GearFest 2017 over the weekend and had a chance to play the Aguilar and Mesa outside in the tents and talk with the reps, GK didn't have the amp in the tent and the rep I talked to told me it was solid state with no tube preamp (wrong as it has 3 12AX7). We thought, after playing the Mesa out in the tent that I'd be going home that it.

After the 'bass room' inside Sweetwater cleared out from all the noisy folks, I was able to do a side-by-side comparison of all 3. I have an Aguilar 1x12 cab that's my primary for rehearsals, so I plugged each amp into the 1x12 and played the exact same riffs (percussive groove, chording and groove with harmonics in the riffs). I used an Ibanez 5 string with 3 band active preamp and Nordstrand soap bar pickups. I also did the same test 3 times for each amp (test GK, then Mesa, then Aguilar) all 3 of the amps were set flat @12 o'clock as I didn't want to have to adjust or tweak the amp for the good tone I was seeking. My 20yr old son, a guitarist, was also there to provide input on what we were hearing as well.

They all had good tone, espeially if I tweeted the EQs. Set flat GK was too muddy for my taste, the Mesa was a bit better and not as muddy. The Aguilar was crystal clear, all harmonics rang through clear and any of the percussive playing came through nice and clear. We did the test a 2nd time just to validate what we were hearing (my son, a big Mesa fan) was for real. 2nd time around we were sure there was a significant difference in the clarity we were hear, and it was a big difference in clarity.

Not saying this amp is for everyone, or for every style of playing. But for me, with my setup and the type of tone I'm searching for - the Aguilar was the clear choice of the 3.

Now I can't wait to get it in my home studio to test it out with my Warwick's

Aguilar quality

By VICROCKBASS from New York on December 11, 2019

I currently have the DB751 with the 4 ohm SL410x. I've previously owned the AG 500 and Tone Hammer 500. The AG 700 was surprisingly loud and a better version of the old AG 500. Great amp and a nice lightweight alternative to carrying the DB 751 to a gig or rehearsal. Works perfectly for my style and needs

Great Pro Gear

By Doug P. from Columbia, SC on August 3, 2018

Fantastic amp. Great EQ range, plenty of overhead. Simple EQ. It"s very light, so it"s easy to transport to gigs and rehearsals alike. If you"re playing clubs with house PA"s and house sound men, they love the direct out on the front panel. I let them know my signal is coming post EQ, and they are glad to have one less concern to worry about. I"ve tried different amps after I purchased this in December of 2017, but I have returned to it. It"s that good. I don"t think you"d regret adding this amp to your rig.

Powerful, great tone

By Randy Gerhart from Portland, OR on May 10, 2017 Music Background: 15+ years playing, professionally

I recently decided to upgrade from the Tone Hammer 500, knowing that anything Aguilar puts out is top notch. Wow, what a difference! The AG 700 has more power and a little bit more bottom end than the TH500. I really like the tone from the head, and the added flexibility of the "deep" and "bright" switches is great. Highly recommended.

Update

By Phil Spigner from NJ on March 29, 2017

I am an Aguilar fan so almost anything they make will be alright with me. I mean quality is quality! When you're a company like Aguilar and sit at the top of the bass manufactoring ladder, you know what good sound is and how to get and provide people with. I feel that nothing Augilar makes will vere that far away from the sound that made the leader in the industry.

Not The Tone Hammer---Better

By Sweetwater Customer on March 16, 2017

Customer,

You are right. The AG series is not the Tone Hammer. They are better.
