Ibanez AEB105E Acoustic-Electric Bass - Natural High Gloss Reviews

5-string Acoustic-electric Bass Guitar with Spruce Top, Sapele Back and Sides, Satin Maple Neck, Purpleheart Fingerboard, and Fishman Electronics - Natural High Gloss

There is something truly unique about the sound of an acoustic bass — pure, low, and full. Ibanez has that uniqueness in mind as it offers the AEB105E acoustic-electric 5-string bass. Featuring an AEB-style body, this acoustic bass has the feel of a guitar, offering a comfortable playability that suits any style. The AEB105E's spruce top, sapele back and sides, and maple neck are tonewoods that produce a stellar low end with a touch of punchy midrange coloring. A purpleheart bridge and fingerboard also add to the tonal quality of this fine instrument and its beautiful response and feel. A Fishman S-Core pickup and Ibanez AEQ-SP2 preamp with onboard tuner deliver great amplified sound. Bassists here at Sweetwater love the playability and tone of this great 5-string acoustic-electric bass.

Great and affordable acoustic bass.

By Dexter Quismorio on December 10, 2021

I enjoy my Ibanez acoustic bass! All you need is to apply string oil and install feedback suppressor when plugging in for a gig. Thanks to Delvin, a great sales engineer!

Very nice acoustic bass

By Brock from Powell Butte, OR on July 2, 2021 Music Background: Hard rock and church worship for 25 yrs

As noted by others, nice bass to pick up and practice on the couch - projects very nicely. Impressive to me, plugged-in, it maintains a nice "acoustic tone" that is a pleasing asset to this bass and is a welcome to my sonic arsenal. Price-point is also an added feature - well worth the investment. Sweetwater did an exceptional job with the set-up and Max Rice is "THE MAN" for keeping me up-to-date. If you are looking for that acoustic tone for your bass projects, this bass is well worth your consideration.

Lot of BANG for the Buck!

By Paul from NC on December 19, 2019 Music Background: Playing Southern Gospel, Contemporary and Praise And Worship for over 30 Years!

My 1st acoustic/electric bass was a Harmony 4 string that I got from a pawn store close to my house, I knew the owners real well and they let me have it for what they had in it which wasn't much! That was around 10 years ago and it's served it's purpose! But when I seen this Ibanez acoustic/electric 5 string I had to have it! The customer service from Sweetwater was amazing! And when it arrived and I played it after waiting for the bass to acclimate like they told me to do I was amazed at how well it played! Sweetwater did and Great job setting it up and the intonation and cording and action was dead on! It plays wonderfully! I Highly Recommend Sweetwater and this Ibanez acoustic bass guitar

Ibenez AEB105E Acoustic Bass

By Larry from Austin, TX on June 30, 2019 Music Background: Years involved in music but begging on bass

I am not an experienced bassist. I bought this bass to play on my sofa without an amp. For that it works well I do not know about projection to an audience but playing in my living room is great. I use the tuner regularly but the bass is usually in tune. I have not had to change the battery since I got the bass. I have used it plugged into my Rumble 100 and it is great on the amplifier. The bass is well made and quite attractive. Polish is a pleasant chore. Have the custom case which fits great and is well made also. Everything came quickly and in good shape. Thanks Joe James. The only downside to this bass is that it does not play itself!

AEB105 Acoustic Bass

By L from Austin, Texas on December 6, 2018 Music Background: Old horn player new bass player

I have played horns for years. I wanted something different. Did not want an amplifier always. This is a beautiful guitar sound good and clear with out an amp. I have not used it amplifies because acoustic was my intention. My Teacher likes it also. He reports good sound and solid construction. I am very pleased. Only a beginner with this instrument. Service was good from Sweetwater. Ibenez was a little slow but a good instrument is better than lightening fast service by the builder. My customer service guy, Joe James, has helped me for years. Good people here.

Plays well- good affordable instrument

By Michael Peifer from Charleston SC on March 24, 2022 Music Background: Full time Pro musician

It arrived perfectly, tuned easily and electronics working well.
We purchased this for a practice instrument primarily.
All is good so far.
Be aware that strings are not standard- they are a special order item.

A Lot Of Bass For The Buck

By Kerry Potter from Wichita, KS on March 31, 2019 Music Background: Church Bassist

If you are looking for a really great acoustic/electric 5 string bass the Ibanez AEB105E is a lot of bass for the buck. The look and feel of the instrument are excellent and the pictures do not do justice to the woods or the high gloss finish.

I have heard complaints that this bass is not very loud unplugged but for the size of the bass body (resenator) I think it has very good volume (think upright bass versus violin). Beside if you want volume all you have to do is plug it in and you will have more tone and volume than you imagine. Plugged in this bass really shines. You do need to be careful though because if you are used to having a loud stage amp or floor monitors you could have feedback issues. In a loud concert situation it would probably be best to send the signal of the bass to the board from a DI box with an in the ear monitor. I do wish Ibanez would have kept their shape control on the pre-amp to have a little more control over feedback issues (the reason this is a 4.5 instead of a 5)

One of the really great features of the bass is the quick change battery system. One clip and the battery slides right out and the new battery slides right in - all in less than a minute. As far as I can tell battery life is very good as long as you remember to unplug the the bass on breaks and when not in use because the pre-amp stays on as long as the bass is plugged in.

The built in tuner on my bass is very accurate and the bass is well built in every respect and should last for years. The bass came with a truss rod hex key, a guitar cord and a extra bridge pin ( nice touch). I also bought the Ibanez AEB fitted case for my bass and it fits like a glove. Is this bass as good as some of the other more high priced acoustic basses - probably not, but dollar for dollar it's a really good investment. I know I'm more than happy with mine.
