This amp sounds like what guitar amps sound like in my head

By Jack G. from Gaithersburg, MD
Music Background: Lifelong Musician

This amp is a dream.

Upgrading from a Vox VT100X, this amp gave me an experience. The moment I plugged in and strummed an Amaj7, the two 12-inch Celestion Greenbacks filled the room with lush, Voxy goodness.

Those Greenbacks are wicked! They are the perfect speaker to my ear, capable of outstanding clarity and gnarly thickness throughout. The dynamics of this amp are incredible, too! The AC30C2 dances with your guitar in sublime harmony, allowing beautiful, expressive playing... or crazy crunch if you want to let er rip!

Micing up the amp, I was a bit nervous about how all of that in-room beauty would translate. For some reason, my old VT100X would often sound a bit "off" through a mic, and I'd have to process it a bunch in order to pull it back. I was ecstatic to discover that recording demos with the AC30C2 gave me a 1:1 sound! The amp sounds so natural through a mic (in my case, an SM57), it was almost like listening back to a live demo.

This amp is 1,000% worth it. It sounds like what guitar amps sound like in my head. Lush and clear, you really can't go wrong with this thing.

Thank you to Nate Burkhardt for helping me out with this purchase! He and Sweetwater are the absolute best!

Still like it after 7 years

By Abbacus Z. from Longview, WA
Music Background: First band in 1973-74

Bought one of these about 7 years ago. I really like it and use it mostly as a pedal platform. I have found that plugging my pedalboard (16 pedals) into the low input/normal channel works best for this. Really like the greenbacks and what they bring to the tonal equation. I use a couple Marshall in a box-type pedals for a JTM 45-ish/plexi crunch, as well as many other pedals, both modulation and drive. Works out very well for me as it has a master volume and I use a Radial Tone Bones ABY pedal for channel switching/channel jumping. The top boost channel has more gain of course, and both channels are quite useable either with pedals, or plugged straight in. Cranked, if you can get away with the volume, is also nice. I have it in a road case, so it's even heavier, but I think it sounds better a little off the floor, and it's better protected in transit. I also have a Vox AC15 HW1X that I use for pretty stuff, Tom Petty covers and maximum chime, and a couple Fender amps. I would buy again if I had to.

Best Amp Ever.

By BRIAN T. from Poquoson, VA

This thing ROARS with an unmistakable chime, and works so well with pedals. The only thing I'd say is that it struggles to be quiet lol. So you should definitely buy an attenuator so you can get those nice tones at a lower volume.

Does not chug

By spencer

I now know that this amp was never meant to play metal riffs, big surprise. however this amp has zero low end. it has bass but its flub. if you want to play Beatles songs 5/5 stars, I gave three stars because it lacks versatility for harder genres and believe I've tried all the pedals.

Vox AC30 Rocks big time

By Charles F. from READING, PA
Music Background: Lead guitarist for Southern Rock tribute band Steelhorse.

I've been using Marshall Super leads, Traynor YBA-1a, old and new Fender, Ceriatone Dumble and boutique amps all my life. I saw a Vox ac30c2 at a show and told a friend about it, he came and bought it for $, like new, used. Two years later and being UN played by him (he was just a collector and played very little), he offered it to me so I had no choice but to buy it. It's been at rehearsal and on stage since then. I never thought it would sound so good, I love this amp. Heavy as hell but sounds super good with any guitar I use through it. I mean totally awesome. Bought the cover from Sweetwater and that gave me faith that it wouldn't get all knocked and scraped up. I like to keep my equipment as I bought it.
Pedals sound great through the Vox AC30c2 and I used many through it and now the Boss ME-80 which sound great through this amp.
All in all, I went from old Marshall and old, and new, Fender amps and settled on the Vox, you can beat it. Some of the best sounds recorded were recorded with Vox, I'm glad I picked one up. I'm looking forward to picking up the V212C extension cabinet to use with the AC30c2 and as a cabinet for the old Marshall, Fender and Traynor heads. Even though the greenbacks are made in China, they still sound great.

Amazing Amp

By Davis from South Carolina
Music Background: 15 years

Always wanted an AC30 and this thing did not disappoint. Sounds great from low volume and completely clean all the way to cranking it and breaking up the tubes. Adding overdrive or distortion takes it to another level. Also takes effects very well, with or without using the effects loop. Keeps up with my heavy handed drummer with the volume only about 1/4th of the way up. Definitely recommend!

So much crunch. So many cleans.

This amplifier sounds amazing. It could use some casters, as it weighs a bit.

Best amp

By Sean S. from Newport, NC

I"m still amazed by it I can"t stop playing through this. Best clean sound, I finally understand the term jangle that"s used a lot for this amp. It can still get a little dirty but I use a few pedals to get what I like.
Rat proco>bad monkey>ns2>korg tuner. I get some extreme 80s early 90s distortion sounds. Best rig I"ve ever bought. INSANLEY LOUD, definitely as loud as my jcm 2000 dsl100 watt head. Sweetwater has to be the best customer service I"ve ever delt with. I plan on buying a second one within a year, their just too amazing!

Vox ac 30

By James from Ohio

Vox ac 30 this amp has so much range from clean to classic distortion very gritty, add pedals and you have one of the most iconic , (I use protone ,walrus, Seymore Duncan, xotic, tc,ehx, etc, )
Amps in the world it is one of the best platforms for pedals I've used. I've had some of the best names in amps and in my opinion you won't be sorry getting into the vox ac 30 . I know there are some very good
Boutique amps but they do cost a lot more . And sweetwater engineers (Andy) absolutely exceed expectation. I Love the service that they provide before the sale and after the sale .

A Legend

By Sweetwater Customer from southeast
Music Background: 20+ year pro

To rate this amp at less than 5 stars would be obtuse to say the least. The value or worth of this amp has nothing to do with it`s price. This amp has been recorded on more songs than a human can count. It has been on more stages all over the world than you could imagine. The Vox AC30 and AC15 are two of the best guitar amplifiers ever produced.
To begin, the tone of this amp, which is the most important attribute, is rich and full but also versatile. You can get deep lows and fat sounds, full and rich, for those who seek such, or pitchy tones suited for the country picker, or anything in between. It can give you huge headroom or you can dial in some fat overdriven tones. With the "Tone Cut" pot you can really dial in to whatever tones you want. The 4 different inputs allow for 4 individual levels as well. And the fact that you can jump channels makes for a hot rodded sound that can give you saturation or overdriven tones to suit those high gain situations.
The Reverb is top of the line, no digital garbage but rich and lush reverb. The Tremolo is second to none as well and in my opinion as good as even those vintage Fender amps.
The speakers are Greenbacks which are also the speakers which have been used in more recordings than you could count. These speakers are capable of pure cleans or the dirtiest of distortions which is why you find them in all sorts of amplifier cabinets including Marshalls.
The level of volume can be low enough for the bedroom, thanks to a master volume, or loud enough for a 300 seat venue without even using a mic.
I`m not biased when it comes to musical equipment but a spade is a spade. I have owned two of these amps and a Hand wired version, as well as Fender Twins, Deluxes, Supers, Mesa Boogie`s Mark 2 B, Heartbreakers, etc.etc.etc. The Vox AC30 is an awesome amplifier that is well suited to perform a wide variety of music genres. There is really nothing negative to state about this amp.
In our day and age we have more choices than we really need and of course there are enough variations of amplifiers out there to suit anyones personal preference. But while many amps are one or two trick ponies, the Vox AC30 is a master of many tricks so to speak.

BLOWN AWAY!!!

By Jerry G. from Massachusetts
Music Background: Music enthusiast,collector

This amp is a versatile beast. There is no other sound than the sound of this Vox and all of it's variations. Coming back to this tube amp after playing through solid state half stacks, I found that it kicks their asses. I've had a great time exploring this VoxAC30C2 and cant play through it enough. It keeps me playing more and working on different styles. It's just amazing.

Every man's dream - Chris Carter is a great Sales Engineer

By Jerry G. from Monson, MA
Music Background: Friend of musicians, hobbyist on guitar, piano, slide guitar and pretty **** good on the blues harp.

I just got my Vox AC30C2 in the mail. That is just 36 hours from when I ordered until it got to my door (Indiana- Massachusetts).

This amp is everything I ever dreamed of or wanted. I have an interest in the whole Vox/ Epiphone 60s sound and every other sound that comes out.

My Sales Engineer is Chris Carter who has taken care of my needs and orders several times and always makes sure that everything is perfect. If he is the standard of Sweetwater, thats a pretty high standard to meet.

Hello, (and never) Goodbye!

By David from Miami, FL
Music Background: Semi-Professional

I am an amp junkie. I've gone through just about every major amp and always do me something that kept me looking. When I found the Blackstar, I tho gut my search had ended. I sold everything except for a Marshall practice amp and 2555 Silver Jubilee.

Lately, however, I've been digging that "Beatles" tone and neither of my amps could accomplish it. So, I pulled the plug on the AC30C2. Without needing to fiddle with the control knobs I instantly achieved Beatles tone. With a little tinkering, I found Brian May, Rory Gallagher, and the Edge.

What I noticed in playing with the controls is that there is no way to get bad tone out of this amp. With my Blackstar, I had to spend about a week finding the right tone. The AC30C2 doesn't know how to produce bad tone. I have so far played a Gibson Les Paul Standard and a Fender American Standard Strat through this amp and have enjoyed listening as much as well paying it.

This is going to be much easier to gig with than my Blackstar half stack too! It weighs less and takes less space. And for those that say it can't take pedals, I say learn how to use your gear. I've put my new 35th Anniversary TS808 Tube Screamer in front of the amp and it sustains and sings like no other. I only use it for leads. It isn't necessary but allows me to sit above the mix when playing with the band.

In short, you can't go wrong with this amp. The tone is infectuous. The 2x12 Greenbacks and 30 watts is more than enough for even outdoor venues. You need this amp in your stable.

Great Amp For Pedal Useres

By Corey R. from Auburn CA
Music Background: Songwriter/composer, studio engineer

I got the AC30 with Greenbacks. I am super pleased with this amp! I have been in search for a good amp to use with pedals for about 13 years now and I believe I'm done for a while. I have been wanting an amp that could produce it's own good clean sound, from detailed to a nice dirty sound. I've had a Marshall JMC2000 TSL100 combo and liked it with pedals but I hated it's clean. I've had a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe which sounded really good clean (duh) and sounded great with distortion pedals but I really had to crank my verbs and delays because it has close to zero compression, the new version III's might be better now though. Mesa Triple Rectifier; high gain was sick (duh #2) but I hated the clean as well. At first it seemed good but after 3 months with my "dream amp" I found myself really unhappy with it. The cleans were too "spikey" for lack of better terms. It's compression would let too much transient through (Fender is a little like that too) and picking would sound good but switching to clean rhythm would hurt my ears. I like it to compress when I hit it hard. Orange Tiny Terror sounds great by it' self but my pedals were horrible through it. The Vox AC30 does what I want the best, it's not perfect but it's the closest imho. The cleans sound good picking, compresses when hitting hard, accepts my delays and verbs well and makes my fuzz pedals sound great. I can use the effects loop for delay and verb and use an A/B box in front of the amp. Gtr---Side A---Big Muff Pi---Normal Channel. Gtr----Side B----Optional Clean Boost---Top Boost Channel.

Very pleased

By Dan D. from Levittown, NY
Music Background: Musician, hobbyist

This amp sounds great, lots of clean headroom. If you strike the strong hard, you get a loud attack, if you keep it soft and don't accent the strums it sounds nice and warm. Using it with a ton of reverb and delay, it handles them very well. My sales engineer Devin was great at helping me get an awesome price on this amp. I'll definitely be coming back for some more gear soon!

By Russell D. from Lake Charles, La
Music Background: 25 years playing guitar, Band, Solo and Church

The sound is amazing. Very vintage. I have never heard another reverb quite like it. I prefer the el 84 sound over the fender 6l6/6v6's. The I wish this had two completely different switchable channels. via foot-switch. It is what it is. Great value also.

Vox AC30C2 (Black)

By Barry S. from Altoona, Pa.
Music Background: 35 Years of Playing, Performing and Teaching.

One of the best Tube Amps I have ever owned! That is a lot.
Great for Classic Rock from the 60's and 70's
Other useful tones ala REM, Tom Petty are easily obtained and sounds great with D.I.Y. Pedals I have built myself from GuitarPCB to further enhance my sound scape. Reverb is lush, warm and real. Tremolo is equally stunning. A true winner and worth every penny not to mention the great Customer Service and Warranty from Sweetwater.

Vox Rocks!

By Marc from United States
Music Background: Musician

I have not played through a tube amp before but a friend suggested that I get a Vox and expand my sound. I am so glad I did. Does not matter what I play, Strat, Tele or Les Paul my VOX AC302C2 delivers the best tones. Weather I want more grit for my country rock songs or I want a fat, rosey tone while playing the blues I get it all with VOX.

Vintage Tone with a Modern Amp

By Charles C. from Lisle, IL USA
Music Background: Play gigs in a classic rock band

I have several Vox vintage amps, but I really don't like taking them to gigs because of their fragility. So I'm doing the next best thing by bringing my new Vox AC30C2 amp! It's a great plug and play amp and with a few pedals routed through the effects loop and onboard reverb and temolo I've got all the sounds I need with plenty of power to spare! Also I link the Normal and Boost channels to get a monster sound! Greenbacks are also my favorite speakers. Special thanks to Brendan Murphy, my sales rep at Sweetwater!

ac30 c2

By Clay B. from Va USA
Music Background: player

I've had mine for less than three months and it sounds truly terrible cranked all the way up now. At first it sounded great and i loved it but progressively got worse. I thought maybe it was my cord or even the tubes (even though they were "brand new") but no it just sounds so muddy and the speakers have a weird metalic buzz sound that drives me crazy. I'm no professional with tons of tone experience and i can still tell somethings just not right!

Great amp for the price...

By Matt from Peoria,IL
Music Background: 25 year veteran...studied at Belmont in Nashville (with Brad Paisley)

So far so good...Definitely has the Vox chime...I'm no purist, so I can't comment on how much like the originals it sounds, but it's one of the best, if not the best for what it costs. (not for metal) I had the Custom Classic before this and traded it off. It sounded good too, but not sure that I was a fan of the Wharfdales, when they switched to Greenbacks I was sold. I definitily think they are an improvement. Never played one with the blues, but to pay 50% more just for that option doesn't seem to make sense. It's labled as the most versatile yet, but it seemed like the CC2 had more features..but simplicity is great here. Definitely glad to have an AC30 back in my collection. Sounds great with Tele's especially if you want a Paisley ish tone. note...doesn't come with a footswitch and yes it's made in China. But I appreciate Vox not jacking up their prices 20-30% each year like Gibson/Fender...Give Brian Cravens a call at Sweetwater and he'll hook you up!
