Perfect neutral china on the market

By Arthur D from Dallas, TX on June 30, 2023

The 18 inch A custom china is the most balanced china you could get. It has a great mid-range tone and the sustain lasts for a good amount of time too. It's great to ride on but it cuts enough to add it as an accent or an extra effect. I first saw these being used by Jay Weinberg from when he first started playing wish Slipknot back in 2014. All in all this cymbal sounds great in almost any musical setting or genre.

What I Was Looking For

By Mark from Knoxville, Tennessee on February 20, 2023 Music Background: Drummer for over 50 years, soundman for over 20 years

So, buying a cymbal without hearing the actual cymbal first is a bit of a gamble. However, since I view china cymbals as being a bit more of an effects type cymbal, I'm wiling to give it a bit more leeway in terms of sonic character and still get the job done for me...as opposed to a ride or crash cymbal, where I'm looking for a more defined and specific kind of sound.

40 years ago, circa early 80's, I bought a 22" Paiste china, and still use it. I've been wanting to add a slightly smaller china for sometime now. To my ear, the 18" Zildjian sounded right for this application.

I figured, if the Zildjian demonstrated in the video was anywhere in the same sonic ballpark, it would be more than sufficient. As it turns out, the cymbal I received was quite comparable to the one in the video. The sound was very close. I played it on our first gig the day after I got it, and it was quite a nice compliment to the 22" Paiste. Just what I was looking for.

Sound I was looking for

By John from NC on January 17, 2022 Music Background: Hobbyist; bar band drummer

This was another piece in my transition to the Zildjians from my very aged collection of cymbals.
As far as fitting in with my other A Customs, the sound and tone were very fitting. Bright and clean. Has that trashy smash sound when I strike it for a big accent, but also has a real nice sound if you are riding it for like a splashy intro or going off the beaten path during a bridge. Its not paper thin and its not thick and clunky. Much more versatile than my 30 year old cheapo cymbal it replaced.
And of course, the whole process from picking to buying to rockin out with Sweetwater was awesome as always.
