Sounds excellent for home theatre sound. Not as loud as you would think in a large living room

By Sweetwater Customer

This sounds great in movies. Lots of smoothness in the dialogue. This sounds great with hi resolution audio you get in commercials and newer music. Older music from the 60s and 70s I think would probably sound better on a class a tube amp with bigger speakers. Modern towers just don't compete with 12" or 15" vintage speakers on a lot of classic rock music. Steeley dan and Supertramp sound great in this amp with modern 6.5" towers though. I guess their engineers just put a lot more effort into the master to make sure it would sound good on everything even modern class d with skinny towers

Performs well.

By Sweetwater Customer from Elko New market Minnesota.

I matched this up with a 15 inch 8 ohm subwoofer that's able to handle 800 watts
Sounds very good would have rather had bought something with lower frequency but I'm happy with this unit.

Gets the job done

By Lyman F. from BEND, OR

I recently purchased the Behringer A800 800w 2 Channel Power Amplifier. It was ready to go out of the box and performed exactly how I needed it to. I use it as a monitor amp., for our church's outdoor services. It is a great addition to our portable sound system.

Super Reference Amp!

By Lyle J. from Tulsa, OK
Music Background: CCM

Behringer brings the value for sure. I plugged this A800 to replace my 10+ year old A500 that finally lost a channel. It weighs half as much as the A500 which makes it way easier to mount or move. I can't hear any hiss or noise! Yet at half volume, it fills my studio to an uncomfortable volume. The tone quality is rich and full. I'm beyond pleased!

Very Nice. Get one.

By Joseph P. from Elon, NC

I searched for (and tried) a few Home receivers. Then I bought one of these on a killer sale, along with a Behringer EQ.
Now I have the ultimate Family room music, surround sound, and combined music and guitar set up all in one. I simply run one cable out for any device, and I have 800 Watts of VERY quality sound from my TV, Phone, Guitar effects pedal, laptop, tablet, MP4 player...just about anything I want, and can even use a Bluetooth receiver in the loop if needed.
YUP. 800 WATTS. I usually don't run 4 ohm on home stuff, but this was a game changer. Don't bother with receivers.
The guys at Sweetwater helped me out with proper cables and setting it up was seamless. The only problem is that I keep knocking my address numbers of of my mailbox out in the street when I turn it up. Need better glue now.

Excellent

By Sweetwater Customer

I have some high-end passive studio monitors. Bought a very expensive amp to power them and had several issues with it. Bought this on a whim to power the speakers while I was waiting on repairs and found that it provided more punch and power, was quieter, and much easier(lighter), to install in my rack. Got my high-end amp back and promptly sold it. Maybe the Behringer doesn't have quite as pleasing a tone, but for studio reference, the accuracy and clarity is appreciated.

Exactly what I expected

By Michael C. from New York
Music Background: Bassist, all styles

Having bought from Sweetwater previously, I knew I could count on them meeting all my expectations. Prompt delivery, excellent pricing and a product that was precisely how it was described in their ad, are what I knew they'd deliver.

For the price point, this power amp is tough to beat. Super clean and silent (just what you want from a reference amp). Banana plugs help with bridging in mono. I'm pleased with this purchase.

True to form

By Brook from L.A., Ca
Music Background: Musician, audio engineer

It sounds like it specs. It really doesn't seem to be coloring the sound at all. Turns on and off quietly. Can't beat it for the price. I came from a hafler pro 2400.
Only drawback is it may be a little harsh on the high end but, I can easily take this into consideration and learn to mix with it. Stay cool...

Behringer A800 is a real good amplifier, however using 7 of these in bridged mode for home theater is AWESOME!

By Dungy S. from WILLIAMSBURG, OH

I really feel you can get no better class D amplifier for $. I use 7 of these Behringer A800 amplifiers in my home theater system. I am also using 2 Crown 2502 class D amps providing power to 4 subs. To get the longest life from my Behringer A800 amps, I use a pair of AC Infinity MULTIFAN S5, Quiet Dual 80mm USB Fans with speed controls on each of my A800 amps. These amps do not even feel the slightest of warmth even when pushed at 65% of their power when using fans. I do not advise to ever push an amp beyond 65% RMS of it's power rating. I am more than happy using these amps. Couldn't recommend them enough. clean dynamics with muscle. I do recommend getting fans for these amps though. They don't get excessively hot, but they get too warm I feel to not use fans on them. Heat over time shortens the life of electronics. These amps are on the neutral side. They do not color the sound. Using tube preamps will warm, and thicken the sound. I do like using tubes in my system. I use a variety of decent DACs in my system as well. These amps suffice in a big way. Not a single issue with any of them. Behringer hit this one out of the park!

One of the cleanest and pristine power amps that I have owned.

By james r. from spring city, TN
Music Background: guitarist, recording engineer, beat maker, producer,

And the real kicker, chances are if you are thinking of getting THIS particular amp, I imagine I know why.

--- ABSOLUTE SILENCE ---

Because it is convection cooled, there are ZERO FANS!

It is on the lighter side of weight, and generally I have found that big heavy amps mean, big transformers, and considerable strength.

But I am actually surprised at just how powerful this amp is to be convection cooled.

The reviews on here were right about how clean and pristine it was.

I think the future of computer based music and recording is computers with no moving parts, and amps with NO FANS.

Definitely one of the best things I have purchased from Sweetwater, highly recommended!

GREAT BANG FOR THE BUCK

By Sweetwater Customer

Have a rehearsal room / recording studio in my home. Needed a QUIET power amp to drive my passive JBL MR835's, which
still sound great. Had a Stewart World 2.1 with a noisy fan, but that amp had tons of power and great sound.
I drive the amp with either my Allen&Heath QU16 for rehearsals, or my music rig (CD, Phono, Tuner, etc).
BUT the fan noise from the Stewart was killing me during rehearsal or quiet music listening. Way too much noise.
After some research, opted for the A800, even though I traditionally was not a Behringer fan due to quality issues on
past purchases of their products.
But recent A800 reviews were positive, and I thought - give it a try.
No fan and budget were the big factors.

Well, have to say, the A800 is working out just fine so far.
Not as powerful as the Stewart, but gets the job done.
Super quiet and very articulate amp. Enough power for my efficient 8 ohm JBL speakers.
(Not sure if it could power less efficient speakers).
So overall I give it 4 stars. 1 star missing for lack of sheer power reserve ie: Stewart.
And yes, I recommend it. Not for pro PA systems, but fine for home studio or rehearsal rig PA.

Pretty Good Value

By Brian B. from Marana, AZ
Music Background: classical and jazz piano, guitar, audio circuit design, piano tuning

Purchased this to replace an older mid-1980s QSC USA 370 class AB passively cooled amplifier that was doing 500 Hz low pass duty for a pair of biamplified ADS L980 12" 3-way studio monitors. Interestingly enough, the older Behringer A500 monitor amplifier circuit was a copy of the QSC circuit, where the power supply caps do double duty as output coupling caps. While the class D A800 does not have the smoother characteristic of the "big iron" class AB amplifier, it offers up considerably more detail and a more solid and extended bottom end. It definitely has those 12" woofers under control. I would not say that the A800 is harsh, or even overly hard sounding, maybe just a bit sterile, a bit too clean. Can't quite put my finger on it. Wish a schematic was available so I could see if there are any coupling caps in the signal chain. That tends to be one area that Behringer cheapens out. It took several hours to break in and start sounding smoother and it may just need some more time or maybe I just need to get more used to its sonic character. I'm thinking I'll switch the loudspeakers back to full passive, have a listen to the A800 full range, and post a followup opinion. I took off a star because of overall cheap chassis construction, a really el cheapo feeling power switch and that it runs a bit too warm for class D. If racking, I will leave an extra RU space above this amp. I also find the LED displays a bit tawdry, more in keeping with car stereo or MI equipment design than professional studio monitoring. Still it seems a pretty good value overall, even with the current tariff tacked onto the price.

GREAT AMP FOR KEMPER

By Mark K. from beautiful Melbourne Florida
Music Background: electrical engineer

I've been using my A800 for about two months, it is driving four Bose 802 speakers using the Bose EQ. This makes a pretty impressive sounding full range stereo PA system. The input side is an 8-channel stereo line mixer.

I run my Kemper Rack into the line mixer feeding my Bose by the A800 amp. It sounds fantastic. Replaced my Vintage Crown DC300 in this application and more than doubled the power to the speakers. The balanced inputs on the A800 help keep ground under control and the ultra light weight is nothing short of a miracle.

The A800 chassis does get warm and the top is covered with vents. I left half a rack space above it for hot air to escape and so far so good. There is no fan so no fan noise but no fan cooling either. My guess is this amp will have a nuclear meltdown if you don't leave air flow above it. Plan your rack space accordingly.

The LED meters on the front of the A800 are very helpful for seeing your headroom.

This amplifier has it all, excellent sound, great price, ultra lightweight, standard rack mount design, balanced inputs and nice metering. The fit and finish of the A800 amp is very nice.

I'm not crazy about the change from standard banana plug outputs to the new style designed to protect idiots from touching their tongue to the contacts. Nothing to complain about really.

I have had an A500 (the class A-B predecessor of the A800) for about a year and found it to be a very capable and handy amplifier. It replaced a Crown D150 I was previously using, I immediately noticed something about the A500 that sounded better than the older D150 technology. The A500 is still here driving a pair of Marshall 4x12 cabs that are used with a modeling preamp.

Success with the A500 led me to consider the A800 and it does not disappoint. The A800 feels empty it's so light weight. The older A500 was a relatively chunky beast with huge heat sinks on the sides. The A800 is easy to hold in one hand while you put in the rack screws.

If you need a high performance amplifier with a low price this one has a lot to offer.

Good music to you!

Excellent Amp

By David A. from FL

This is a great amp. No noticeable hiss or distortion, and no fan noise at all. I've barely driven it to 1/2 power, and the sound fills the studio.
