Solid Koa Folk-sized Dreadnought Limited-edition A/E from Yamaha!
Yamaha's A4KII Solid Koa Limited Edition Acoustic-electric delivers the lively sound of koa, along with enhanced volume in the lows and mids, thanks to new scalloped bracing for the top and shorter bracing on the dreadnought's back. With a solid koa top, back, and sides, this guitar simply sounds fantastic. The A4KII also takes full advantage of Yamaha's acclaimed SRT2 pickup system for recording and stage performance. You get volume, treble, and bass controls (with auto feedback reduction), and a blend control allows you to balance between the piezo and SRT2 preamp for your own distinctive tone. Playability? Your fretting hand will fly on the fast neck and silky ebony fingerboard. Premium appointments, including mahogany binding, a brilliant abalone rosette, and gold tuners with ebony buttons, give the A4KII LTD an elegant, classic look. Yamaha is only handcrafting 75 of the A4KII Solid Koa Limited Editions in the folk-sized dreadnought body style, so reserve yours now!
The sonic magic of koa
For this instrument's top, sides, and back, Yamaha uses a very special tropical hardwood. Koa's sonic alchemy combines the focused midrange of mahogany with the snappy high end of maple. Sweetwater tip: due to the wood's density, koa guitars tend to start out sounding a bit bright — it's similar to maple in this regard. But the more you play your koa guitar, the more the tone opens up, expanding the midrange and rewarding you with sweeter, richer, more resonant sonority. Often, guitarists who are unfamiliar with the tonewood purchase a koa guitar for its stunning visuals, don't play it enough to allow the wood to warm up, and mistakenly conclude that it's too bright. Fine koa guitars like the Yamaha A4KII Koa LTD deserve to be played every day! With that said, koa's inherent brightness is ideal for fingerpickers with a meatier touch and for studio layering where you need an acoustic guitar that cuts through the track.
Modern audio engineering with vintage style
While the Yamaha A4KII sports a traditional western body cutaway, its lows and highs resonate even more fully than those generated by conventional non-cutaway designs, thanks to new scalloped top bracing and shorter back bracing. These modifications allow the top and back to resonate more naturally and with greater volume in the low-mid ranges. The western cutaway gives it a vintage vibe, but make no mistake — with its innovative brace design and System 71 SRT2 electronics, the Yamaha A4KII Solid Koa Limited Edition is a cutting-edge 21st-century instrument!
Studio sound onstage
Normally you can best hear a guitar's subtle nuances when it's expertly miked in the studio; but the A4KII LTD has Yamaha's SRT2 pickup system, which brings those wonderful acoustic sounds to the stage. With blend control, you can balance the output from the under-bridge piezo with the modeled characteristics of either a Neumann U 67 large-diaphragm condenser or a Royer R-122 active ribbon microphone, creating your own unique tone with natural clarity.
