Best Strings

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Guitar and Bass in various genres since the1970s

I play bass in a jazz group, and I've always liked the sound and feel of flat wound strings. I decided to try the nylon wounds; I was glad I did. They deliver a slightly deeper tone (which I like) and there is even less friction than the stainless flat wounds. Slides on the strings are easier and much quicker. Great feel; great sound!

Perfect for Bass Drop tuning

By Zhiyang Z. from Brookhaven, GA
Music Background: Amateur bassist, guitarist, synth player

I used it with a 4-string drop-C tuning. It sounds much better than previous thinner roundwound string. It will be my standard for drop C tuning in the future.

Smooth

By Nathan from Midwest
Music Background: Praise and Worship

I installed these on an Ibanez Sound Gear fretless. After a 16 year hiatus I am back to playing. Seeing black strings on basses piqued my curiosity. Driven mainly by aesthetics, I decided black strings would be the best compliment to my black bass. I am mainly a slider (a great way to make simple playing sound cool), but had never tried flatwounds. Also, the nylon wrap seemed like an interesting delve into modern bass by minimizing wear on the fretboard.

Perhaps the most difficult aspect of installation was threading the E string through the bridge without tearing the nylon wrap. Keep in mind this is a 30+ year old bass. More modern basses may be more accommodating with rounded features on the bridge.

They are very smooth with little, if any, wear on your fingers. I could play these all night. They sound nice and smooth, especially on long slides, with a little "flare" at the end (which is as close as I have been able to get to sounding like Pino Palladino.)

Oddly enough, the look and feel of these strings is both "cool" and alternatively: "cheap". The black on black gives ( I think) a sophisticated vibe, but the strings themselves look like electrical tubes on a 1990's MIDI interface. They are so smooth there is a tendency to slide past your destination.

Personally, I could do without the purple thread. (To me black makes everything look more professional, purple has the opposite effect.)

I am excited about the possibilities. By the time I need to change strings (which I understand maybe quite a while with these) I will have an idea if I like them enough to continue.

Great set of strings for the tone.

By Kitt from Minnesnowta
Music Background: Drums, bass, guitar, various percussion.

Already a big LaBella user, I was not a fan of tape wound strings, finding them too dark and muted for my use… until now. Picked up a 2023 Fender Ventura II series Tele bass with the 'mudbucker' pickup. It arrived, strung with a set of bright sounding rounds. Just didn't sound right so I tried some flats… better, then these and here I found the sweet spot. The only downside is these strings are not offered in string-through construction, but so far the break across the bridge seems fine. If you are looking for a full sound with the highs dialed back, check these out!

I love these, I have such a hard time playing anything else now! With White and Gold being options, how can you go wrong!?!?!

Deep, thick tone, deep like Plato after a good nap.

The Best!

By Dave from Pennsylvania

I Love these strings. I have them on many of my basses. I pretty much only use LaBellas. I do have a set of D-R, which I like. But LaBella is my go-to brand!

Labella nylons

By Ger from WI
Music Background: 50+ year bassist

I have bought many different nylon coated strings for my Gretsch hollow body bass, and these LaBella strings are by far the best. Very easy action, and excellent acoustic tone, especially plucking on the upper neck. Excellent buy!

Best strings to be creative

By Luca from Brooklyn
Music Background: Drummer, bass and guitar player

I set up my ESP Ltd Frank Bello bass with these strings as an experiment. Since I don't play heavy metal I thought that the strings would look awesome black on matte black and MAYBE also sound good. Well, not only they sound really good and smooth but they can also bend and give you a wider range of playing styles possibilities. I set up the bass at Sam Ash and I couldn't be happier. Oh and the look of it all, I think it's just insane! I have now a special Bass with a unique, lovely warm sound.

Absolutely love these strings. I don't know what took me so long to try nylons. I will never go back to metal.

Meaty, upright like sound

By Sweetwater Customer

For most players, the 750N set is fine, but as long as you don't have to modify your nut, the 760N set is a little better. I prefer the larger gauge and higher string tension.

Wonderful Sound

By Sweetwater Customer

I wanted a different sound for my acoustic bass and these strings do it! My Martin B-1 is my only fretted instrument and now it has the slide and tone of a fretless.

Has the same tension as standard strings!

By Joe L. from Warwick RI
Music Background: Professional bassist

I was worried about the gauge being heavy on these strings but was relieved to see they have a similar tension as a set of 40-100. And I did not need to file the nut on my Dean bass to seat them properly. They have a clearer sound with a little less bottom than the flats that were previously installed. I would definitely recommend them if you"re looking for a more upright sound with better clarity and brightness than standard flats.

Unique sound playibility

By Steve from St. Louis
Music Background: Playing since 1964.

I have been using these strings for years. They never wear out. I use them on three of my basses. P bass. Carvin LB70. Gibson EB2. Every other bassist I have ever let play my instruments fell in love with them and immediately started using them. Very gentle on the fingers. Can play for hours without sore fingertips. Plus they look really cool and attract a lot of attention. Try them. You will thank me.

My favorite strings

By Chris from Texas

Best strings for my Stingray. Great balanced tension. Super smooth. No finger noise at all. Sound good with finger style, slap or pick. Fat fundamental but with way more sweet top end brightness than any flat wound I have ever tried. If you like flats but find them too "blurry", especially with effects then these are the strings for you.

Smooth without any sonic sacrifice.

By Joshua M. from Royal Oak, MI

Not only do these strings look great, but they feel amazing. They baby your fingers. Plus, the sound great. I'm definitely going to pick these up again.
