La Bella 760FS-S Deep Talkin' Bass Flatwound Bass Guitar Strings - .045-.105 Standard Short Scale Reviews

.045-.105 Stainless Steel Flatwound Hand-polished Electric Bass Guitar Strings, Standard Short Scale

La Bella's Flatwound Deep Talkin' Bass strings became a top choice for professional bass players way back in the 1950s, and their popularity has never flagged. Made from hand-polished stainless steel, these flatwound bass strings deliver a profoundly deep and vibrant tone with all the sustain you could ask for, and they retain their tone well after standard flatwounds have gone dead. No strings on the market play as smooth on a standard electric bass, and they feel absolutely luxurious on a fretless. If you're in the market for superior flatwound strings, La Bella's Flatwound Deep Talkin' Bass strings are it.

Excellent bass strings and great service

By Sweetwater Customer on April 22, 2024

LaBella Deep Talking bass strings give the best sound I have ever found in 23 years of searching for "that sound". Jimmy Hart has been friendly and very helpful as I have purchased various products over the years. Thank you!

Perfect for a Fender Mustang Bass

By Tom on February 2, 2024

This is my second restring using La Bella flatwounds on my Fender Player Mustang PJ Bass. I couldn't be happier. The old strings still sounded good after 15 months of daily practice and monthly gigs, but I figured I'd start the new year with a new set. It really did make a difference in tonal quality. And the new ones hold their pitch just as well as the old ones. Many thanks to Braden Thatcher for his help applying an old store credit to this purchase. They're definitely worth the price!

Exactly What You Should Expect

By Jack Fullerton from Central Florida on December 29, 2023 Music Background: Intermediate musician, guitar/bass tech and sound tech assistant

These strings are exactly what you should expect from a set of flat wound bass strings. The have the warm tone and smooth feel of what they are. They may cost more than round wounds, but they last far, far longer than rounds.

butter smooth

By Tim from California on December 21, 2023 Music Background: Beginner, 2 months

I use D'Addario ZLR8 string lube/cleaner for an awesome smooth feel. I can play for 8 hours with these strings, without the pain of round wounds. Perfect size for my 28.5" short scale bass. Plenty of cutoff at the front silks for up to a 30" scale bass. Doesn't look like they would fit anything longer than 30" without the silks being in the nut. Excellent quality strings, perfectly flat windings. Plenty of great sound from all the strings. Will be my strings of choice from now on. Tension feels just like my long scale bass. Nothing wrong with them, especially if you are a heavy handed plucker like me. If you want a little softer, maybe try the .104 set.

Great Strings - Great Sweetwater Service!

By Steve from Jacksonville FL on December 13, 2023

I have used these strings for a couple of years on my Fender P bass and Guild Starfire II bass. The tone is beautiful and the feel is what I want in steel flats. I just put them on my Rickenbacker 4005, and guess what? The trilogy is complete. They sound and feel great. And thanks to my service engineer, Derek Kemp, who generously smoothed out a late delivery issue that was not of Sweetwater's making.

La Bella 760FS-S Deep Talkin' Bass Flatwound

By Sweetwater Customer on September 1, 2023

Put these on my Fender Mustang a few weeks ago to replace the stock strings. So smooth, incredible sustain and brilliant deep tones. As far as I'm concerned I can't see myself ever using any other strings on this bass. Highly recommended.

Flatwound goodness

By Bobby from Memphis, TN on May 9, 2023

I bought these strings to install on my brand new short scale bass. Now it has that Original Recipe old school funk thing going on that puts a smile on my face with that finger lickin' great tone! 5 star service from Sweetwater, as always!

The Only Bass Strings I Use

By Rick from KC MO on April 26, 2023 Music Background: 55 years of rock and blues

AS a guitar player I prefer playing a short scale bass, and I do not like round wound bass strings. The flat wounds have a slightly deeper tone than round wounds and are a lot easier to play. I've tried a few different brands but Bella DTB .045 - 105 flat wounds have the sound and feel I prefer. I don't have to be concerned with squeaks and it's easier to obtain a good sound on slides and bends. I can still get the "pop" on the Jazz pickup and the "thump" on the Precision pickup. And they last a long time. Bella is the best!

Re-Birth of an old unknown name 60s bass guitar

By Dave from Shelton, washington on April 13, 2023 Music Background: Bands in the 60s and 70s now just my own and of few buddies fun time get togethers.

Strings sound great all up and down the neck the actual bass needs some more adjusting but I am happy with the sounds I am getting and no noise when sliding, strings are nice and smooth. I already ordered a set for an old bandmate of mine.Dave

Great sounding strings

By Sweetwater Customer from Scottsdale, AZ on April 11, 2023 Music Background: Yes

If you're looking for that warm, massive low end sound ......... these babies rock!

I guess these are my new strings of choice as Rotosound doesn't have them in this gauge in a flat wound short scale set.

THE BEST

By Darryl Armstrong from Mandeville, LA on February 16, 2023

These strings are fantastic. I'll never understand why so often short scale sets are of a lighter guage than long scale strings. Logic would suggest that they should perhaps be even a bit heavier to accommodate for the shorter scale length. Often, I find the low E to be particularly floppy and unusable. These are the perfect guage and tension for my Gretsch Jr Jet bass. They feel great and they sound great.

These Flats Are The Sound I'm Looking For On My EB-0

By Chris J McElroy on December 21, 2022 Music Background: Intermediate bassist and guitarist

I owned an Epiphone EB-3 for several months and put Labellas on it. Nice flats! Smooth, and good tension. Not too loose and not too tight. They have the old school sound with a strong hint of brightness. Surprisingly good clarity for old school flats. They aged nicely too! My first bass is an Epiphone EB-0 so I figured I'd put Labella on this bass as well as I'd been hanging on with Labella flats meant for a Hofner on this bass after trying D'Addario Chromes pitching them and then putting rounds back on.

Anyways the strings came in the mail within a matter of two days from Indiana to Chicagoland area. They arrived safe and sound. I put them on the 30.5-inch scale bass and after a few weeks the brightness mellowed out. Nearly three months in and they've aged like fine wine. Good thump. Sounds clear. And while the E and A have darkened the D and G still retain some brightness. And a special thanks to Jon Mostacato from Sweetwater for offering to help answer any questions.

If you're looking for the old school bass sound these flats will do the trick with legit longevity and extra brightness and clarity than you might find on other old school flatwounds. Definite five stars!

Like silk

It provides effortless and noiseless slide up and down these flat wound strings on my bass.

Smooooooth

By Jeni from Pgh PA on April 18, 2022 Music Background: Rank beginner

Changed to flatwounds on the advice of a friend. I have an Ibanez Mikro. These aren't a perfect fit, and I may have screwed them up a little (first time changing strings) but that's user error. I really like the ease of playing and the tone. I just wish Ibanez would MAKE a flatwound specific to the Mikro bass. I may try another brand of short scale strings next time but I'm a rank novice, so don't go by my advice lol

Amazing strings

By Tracy Crites from Elyria, OH on January 28, 2022 Music Background: Weekend rock star

The only reason I purchased these bass strings is because D'Addario stopped making the short scale bass strings that I like. I am very pleasantly surprised by how good these strings are. The sound fantastic and feel amazing.

THEY'RE SO SMOOTH!

By Juniper from Houston on October 4, 2021 Music Background: Bass guitar, vocal

Seriously, I don't think I'm ever going back to round-wound after this. They're so smooth and slide so nicely against my fingertips, it's great – especially since my skin has been drying out so badly from the colder weather and hand sanitizer usage. They're also a lot easier to clean and KEEP clean. I bought these for my Ibanez Mikro bass (shorter than a short-scale at 28.5 inches), and it's a good fit, only needed a little trimming. Highly recommend! (I might even buy these as a present for my memaw's basses for Christmas, they're that nice.)

Love these strings!!!

By Sweetwater Customer on June 30, 2021 Music Background: 50 years playing music, guitar, mandolin, uke, and bass

I just started back up playing bass after many years and I needed to replace the round-wound strings on my short-scale Bronco Bass but since I am playing bass in a Cajun Jam group I wanted the sound of an acoustic bass. These flat-wound stainless strings are the BEST. They sound great! The feel of the strings are wonderful and the surface of each string is smooth as silk. The sustain is crazy long and the sound is solid, stable, with perfect intonation and consistent string volume across the neck. Slides are completely smooth and silent. These are the only strings I will use from now on plus they fit my short-scale Bronco Bass perfectly.

LaBella Bass strings

By Sweetwater Customer on February 26, 2021

Spoke with Blake Rice on the phone with concerns if these were correct strings for a Mustang short scale bass that my wife plays, after researching found that these were the ones, she has the bridge on top of guitar, they fit perfectly, now the guitar has the sound we were looking for ! Thanks Sweetwater and your team for the help and the fast shipping !! Would definitely recommend this product to anyone wanting to upgrade to flatwounds on their Mustang Bass !!

La Bella 760FS-S Deep Talkin' Bass Flatwounds on Ibanez GSRM20 Mikro Bass

By OldFunker from New York on November 5, 2020 Music Background: Funk, Motown, R&B

Silky smooth and deep sounding. Highs sound nice, too. Very punchy and no more floppy E string. I was concerned because it was a close fit on my Ibanez GSRM20 Mikro Bass, specifically on the G string, but turned out fine. Check out the picture for reference. Bass has Gotoh GB707 Gold 3121GX tuners and an Ibanez B20 bridge upgrade. Hopes this helps. Funk on and enjoy!

Good sustain on my new Fender Mustang.

By Mike Feliciano from South Florida on August 31, 2023 Music Background: Beginner

I bought these to replace the stock strings on my new Fender Mustang bass. They feel great! I love the around and sustain from these strings. Trey, my sales associate, followed up on my purchase to make sure everything was what I wanted. Well Done!

Excellent strings

By mike from s.e FL on June 18, 2022 Music Background: playing professionally since 1967

The strings I had on my Epi EB-0 had pretty much died. These brought the bass back to life. Sweetwater's usual quick shipping had it up and running sooner than expected.

Disappointing

By Jan S Traas from MCGAHEYSVILLE, VA on November 10, 2023 Music Background: Ancient bass player

On an Epiphone EB-0: They sounded fairly good for the first 48 hours- reasonable level of brightness & harmonics for flats, but I noticed right away they had a rather 'sticky' feel to them despite being amazingly smooth in finish... sounds odd, I know, but both left hand sliding was sticky/draggy feeling and right hand plucking felt like I was hanging up all the time- finger would want to grab on the the strings rather than slip off.

After the first 48 hours, the sound was instantly the deadest I've experienced- made me wish for an upright so I could get some sustain! The tension seemed quite high too... very stiff feeling.

Also had a devil of a time keeping them in tune. Disclaimer-possibly my fault as I was unaware of recommendations to 'double wrap' flat wounds.

These are not the strings I'm looking for... move along...
