Peavey 6505 112 Mini Stack 20-watt Tube Head with 1x12" Cabinet Reviews
Peavey's 6505 Mini tube amp head packs all the tonal tenacity that the 6505 series is known for, and at 20 watts it can definitely be taken to your next gig. But sometimes even 20 watts is way too loud, especially for your neighbors... as Sweetwater guitarists are well aware. No problem. With onboard power attenuation down to one watt and speaker-defeatable, cabinet-emulated mic and USB outputs, getting that roaring tone from your 6505 Mini at low levels is a piece of cake. If you're looking to scream above a loud band, you're in luck when you grab the 6505 Mini and matching Peavey 112-6 speaker cabinet package!

High gain heaven
Sweet sounding combo, couldn't be any happier. Super high gain head at any wattage. Perfect for bedroom playing. Super customer service aswell.
Great little setup!
I was excited to get this bundle with the 6505 MH and the 112 Cab with the Greenback Speaker. It looks super cool and it's a good match size wise. The cab was bigger than I expected and am very pleased with it's tone. The head looks good on top, and not too small on the cab horizontally or vertically. The head is definitely a high gain beast and I picked this over the Invective MH. I'll agree with others, that it can do some gritty cleans with the Pre on the lowest setting, but won't get you, say 'classic 20,30 or 50' clean tones there. Sounds great for heavy rock, alt/progressive, etc. If you're into heavier music, you can't go wrong with this cool looking/sounding setup.
Best budget mini stack
I was skeptical about this head at first because everyone knows you cant really beat a 5150. I was really surprised when i started messing around with it and how versatile it really is. It has the classic peavey chugging high gain tones when you want them. If you tweak it enough you can get some awesome clean tones as well. Its great for bedroom playing, with the option to change different watt settings. Ive noticed the 1 watt setting kind of flushes the sound out. Id recommend putting on the 5 watt setting and turning the volume down a little if youre worried about being loud, as this thing can get really loud. Overall impressed and use it everyday with all types of music. i dont see myself getting another head in a while. Cab is nice too especially for the price. the only problem i have is some feedback in the lead channel, even using a noise gate. sounds sick, get one.
Big sound, small package!
Its big brother may be the ultimate for a metal head with a warehouse-sized room and a huge budget, but this will absolutely fill the bill in your bedroom. Great features: the 1/5/20 watt settings give you a ton of tone and loudness options. on 20, this thing coupled with the 1x12 is simply deafening before you even get close to halfway on the gain channel, so theres a lot of headroom. Put a mic on it and gig with it, it could handle it.
Its much easier to get the distorted/metal sounds you love out of it, than the clean sound. But with a few days and some experimenting I've dialed in some really warm cleans, and some great crunchy, overdriven sounds as well. The dials are really sensitive and small changes can produce big differences in tone, so write down your settings as you dial them (specifically the cleans, the distortions are no brainers).
The reverb isn't going to fool you into thinking its a fender, but thats fine. Its core audience is metal heads, and thats what it does great!
This amp also pairs unbelievably with pedals. Put a harmonix tone-tattoo in front of it for even fuller sound and (if you can believe it) tighter distortion and harmonics. Solid Purchase!
JUNK.
I read tons of reviews on this amp head and thought, wow, this is going to be great. As soon as I set up the mini stack, I was immediately disappointed. When I turned on the amp, it had a very load buzzing and humming sound that would not go away when playing or with the strings muted. Even when I turned the volume down the whole way on my guitar, I still got a hissing sound from the cab. I don't know if it's the cab or the amp but this set up is bad. My 100 dollar line 6 spider IV combo sounds better than this. I did some digging and found that other people have had this problem and it is likely due to the preamp tubes being bad. How are you going to sell me a brand new amp with bad tubes?? I'm not totally sure if that's the issue, but I know for sure this is not something a noise gate will fix. Maybe my speaker is broken. The box did show up with a huge hole in it with tape over it. It looked like the FedEx drivers just threw my packages in the truck and then threw 100 more packages on top of them. This is ridiculous. I've never had something show up to my house in this shape. Sweetwater, you need to do better to make sure you're sending quality products. Still waiting for the sound engineer to reply to my email, but regardless of what he says, I'm pissed.
