Rickenbacker 620 Electric Guitar - Fireglo Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Maple Body, Maple Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, and 2 Single-coil Pickups - Fireglo

The Rickenbacker 620 electric guitar offers you the unmistakable jangle of a great Ricky with the performance of a great solidbody. The 620 was first released in the 1950s to offer budding rock 'n' rollers a great instrument to play. It has since been seen in the hands of such guitar luminaries as Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. The 620's all-maple construction and Hi-gain single-coil pickups deliver the legendary tone that goes hand in hand with the Rickenbacker name. And the 620 even boasts the famed Rick-O-Sound stereo output for expanded sonic possibilities.

Rickenbacker 620 Answers All

By Robert Mulharin from Easton, PA on January 31, 2024 Music Background: Advanced

I have played this guitar thru a Wampler EGO Comp into a Morley AFX-1 Analog multi pedal into a Fender Princeton(Sweetwater exclusive w/12" speaker) and I cannot get over how great it sounds. Petty jangle to KWS Blues, to acoustic sounds, this guitar sounds wonderful. Plugged straight in, bypassing all pedals it has all the jangle you can stand! Only issue at all with pedals is the high gain setting on the AFX-1, makes a little noise but I was able to tamp it down using the pre and post settings. Very light, the neck is a bit thinner than I was used to but nothing that will hamper playing it.
Love this guitar!!

It's not a Tele

By Arthur SinClair from Van Buren Arkansas on November 6, 2021 Music Background: Music has been part of my life for the 65yrs I've been alive

Beautiful, never played a Ricky before. Plays totally different than any of my tele's,or les pauls. Great tones, love the chunky neck. Finish an quality is exceptional. I personally don't usually buy intangibles but know Sweetwater and Mr Langston will stand behind anything I purchase. If there would have been any issues they would make it right easily and promptly. Thank you again Sweetwater!

It’s a whole lotta fun.

The Rickenbacker 620 provides a truly unique playing experience. From the way it looks to the way it plays, feels, and sounds, this is just one lovely guitar! The 620 also confirms that American build quality is still the best in the world! I had Sweetwater set my 620 up. So worth the money, and my example plays addictively well! For how light it is, this guitar really resonates sound and is hands down the most sensitive solid-body electric guitar I've ever played! It's such an expressive instrument! The ease of play combined with the killer sustain, string clarity, harmonic resonance, and chime are extremely satisfying, making the play rewarding to the musician and audience alike!

With the pickups and blend controls you also find a treasure trove of tonal opportunities. She'll also give you plenty of attitude, bark, and bite when you throw a little overdrive at it. All this makes for an insanely good rhythm guitar and it's one of the few guitars that has that unique sound that transcends generational music styles and tastes. When you hear a Rick, you know it! Musicians love the 620 because it's a responsive, resonant instrument that's inspiring and fun to play! Best of all, it delivers a tone and vibes your audience will remember, relate to, and love!

My best guitar purchase.

I love this guitar. It is super easy to play. It sounds great and is very well balanced. I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking for an easy playing, great sounding, versatile guitar. Working with Sweetwater's Dave Hoffman made the experience of buying this guitar near perfect, (unfortunately, weather and FedEx's ineptitude were involved in the shipment of the guitar.) You know you want on, JUST DO IT!

Love it

It's the only guitar I every owned that holds the criteria of the perfect all around guitar .

Rickenbacker 620 Deluxe Fireglo

By Sweetwater Customer on October 15, 2020

This RIC 620 is without a doubt the most beautiful and easiest playing guitar I have ever owned. The Fireglo finish is impeccable. I owned a 360/12 V63 years ago and sold it and have always regretted it. This one is a lifer and will be followed up with another 360/12 in the near future. I've paired the 620 up with a VOX AC 10C1 also purchased at Sweetwater along with a Jangle Box to really get that Byrds and Smiths sound. Thanks Sweetwater for the 55 point inspection and the double boxing for shipping. Arrived in SC in 3 days. Guitar was perfect right out of the case. Never ordered an instrument on-line and was very nervous about it but since no music stores within 7 hours of me had any Rickenbacker 620s, I went ahead based on Sweetwater's reputation and on-line reviews. This was such a good experience I followed up 2 days later with an order for the VOX AC 10 C1 and a couple of Mogami cables. Great job Sweetwater!

My New Rickenbacker 620 Delux

Very excited to once again, own a Rickenbacker. This is just a beautiful guitar! Well-made, coupled with the great Sweetwater inspection process.
I am very pleased with the entire experience and loving the way the guitar plays.
Thank you!

It's got a certain something . . .

By Grimbotim from NJ on May 8, 2023 Music Background: I have a guitar problem.

I'm not going to say it was worth the wait, because the wait was absurd. Now that I got that part off my chest, once it finally arrived, I couldn't have been happier. I wanted to find a flaw in the finish, I couldn't. I wanted to find a flaw in the setup, I couldn't. I wanted to find a flaw in the sound, I couldn't. The hardware, all perfect. This guitar sounds like a Ric, but better insofar as it also sounds like I wish my Telecaster sounded. The bridge pickup has all the twang and brightness you could ever want and the tone control helps keep all that chime in check. The neck pickup on its own is smooth and loud, but with the (in)famous fifth knob, it can be blended in with the bridge to get all the sounds balanced however you wish. You either like a Ric neck, or you don't. I very much do. The access up high is insane. That said, string bends on a Ric take some getting used to. Maybe it's the finish on the neck, maybe I have become spoiled by the 9's on my strat, but you need to earn the bends and vibrato on Ric. Anyway, I ordered this is as a companion to my Ric 360/12 and with, as far as I can tell, the exact same neck, it felt great from the first moment. If you have time to wait or can get your hands on one that is somehow in stock, I think it's a great value for an impeccably made guitar with an undeniable pedigree from a manufacturer that has stayed true to its roots and values quality over sales numbers.
