Taylor 614ce Acoustic-electric Guitar - Natural Top, Brown Sugar Stain Back and Sides Reviews

6-string Acoustic-electric Guitar with Torrefied Sitka Spruce Top, Maple Back and Sides, Mahogany Neck, and Ebony Fingerboard - Natural Top, Brown Sugar Stain Back and Sides

Combining elegant aesthetics with tone-enhancing details, Taylor’s 600 Series guitars are incredibly popular. The 614ce acoustic-electric Grand Auditorium features revolutionary V-Class bracing, which boosts volume evenly across the tonal spectrum, increases sustain, and improves the natural intonation of the instrument by creating a more synergistic response from the soundboard. This fosters a more harmonious relationship between the notes you play, helping chords to ring out in cohesive splendor. If you’re a guitarist who appreciates a more played-in tone, you’ll relish how the 614ce’s torrefied Sitka spruce top and maple back and sides work together to convey every nuance of your playing. While you delight in its beautiful tone, your eyes will savor the 614ce’s tasteful appointments.

By Dennis from Alabama on March 2, 2023 Music Background: Amature. Maybe a little above that...

Man this guitar is sweet. Arrived still in tune. Plays and looks great. And the whole process, sales rep (Parker) and customer service was just the best! They set this guitar up perfectly and im playing it pretty much everyday. Even the case is really nice.

Sweetwater is just the best!

Maple guitars are too bright right ? WRONG …..

By Jerry from ripon, CA on May 1, 2022

I was about to buy a Taylor 814 CE another Spruce Rosewood guitar like all my past guitars have been and I've been fortunate enough to have some of the best. Taylor 800,700,400.200 Martin d-35,d-42, guild d-55 and Gibson songwriter all excellent guitars ,as I was talking to my sales GRAIG MILLS he was telling me about his bucket list Taylor guitar which was a 614 CE builders edition, I told him I've never tried the 600 series because they're maple and Maple guitars are bright and I don't really like bright guitars boy was I wrong there anything but bright guitars they have a much more even sound touch sensitivity plenty of bass not over bearing trouble it's just an even great sound and honestly the sound that I've been looking for throughout all the guitars I've mentioned above this 614 CE that I bought is not the builder's addition it's the regular 614 CE and it is to me the best sounding acoustic guitar I've ever played and like I said before I've played some of the best I am overwhelmingly happy with my decision to purchase this guitar after a lot of research it was well worth the pay off I can't think CRAIG MILLS EXT 3274 for all his help in making this decision and for making this happen I can't thank Sweetwater enough they have done it once again for me.

Sweet sound

By Jeff from AL on June 23, 2021

I've tried many high end Taylor guitars but this one spoke to me within minutes of playing. The combo of spruce and maple produces such a warm sound. It's also a beautiful guitar. The flamed maple back is like looking in a mirror with it being so shiny. Then you have the inlays which are gorgeous as well. I love this guitar and highly recommend.

Beautiful Guitar

By Steven from Massachusetts on June 11, 2021 Music Background: 25 years guitar playing.

The Taylor 614ce brown sugar guitar is totally amazingly awesome. Outstanding beautiful looking with amazing tone that sounds better every time I play it. I am glad that I decided to buy this guitar.

614ce. V class

By Joey G from Oakwood Va. on October 1, 2019

Recently purchased this guitar. V class is awesome. The guitar is both punchy and soft to the touch. My 4 th Taylor. Unreal sustain and intonation all down the fretboard.

Simply Outstanding

By Dave from AZ on September 10, 2019

To start, I have owned this guitar for almost a year now and this is my first Taylor guitar. I have played/owned many acoustic guitars throughout my 37 years of playing and have always loved the Taylor brand. I must admit it was a hard experience purchasing a guitar site unseen (only in pics) and without playing it first, on top of laying down the $... for the guitar. But I felt comfortable with the Sweetwater return policy and thought, "what do I have to lose?" This being said, I was not disappointed when it came. (WARNING! The hardest part will be waiting for the 18-24 hours for acclimation to lay your hands on her/him/whatever)

I digress... Once ready, I immediately noticed how light the guitar was and noticed the tonality / play-ability differences from several of my other acoustics. This guitar shines like none that I have played before, and honestly puts some of my main "major name brand" acoustics to shame. I can say,.it's somewhat hard to get the full effect of this guitar while playing it yourself (just like any other acoustic). I would suggest inviting one of your buddies that plays, to play this guitar in front of you. I promise you, you will fall in love with it again. If you can't, go play in the bathroom or tiled floor room of your house.

I spent several month's playing my C614ce unplugged and prior to using the electrics on this unit to get the feel of the guitar (less initial electrics check-out). I use a Boss AD-10 acoustic pre-amp in my setup and was amazed on how I needed to "dial back" the EQ and tonal resonance features on the pre-amp. This guitar sounds great dry or wet in any environment with minimal tweeking. I have even noticed that the pickup is sensitive to strap noise, which is common to body/sound hole mic-ing, but I've never experienced from an acoustic pickup system. So in short... the pickup, picks up everything! Which can be a good or bad thing ;) In summary, the price is nothing in comparison to what you get, and is worth every penny someone would pay for this guitar. If one is serious about this guitar/model.. you will not be disappointed! Good luck!!!

don't be scared of maple

By Matt on November 21, 2018

Maybe you're like me and would overlook every maple guitar on the wall. Let's face it, this tone wood has a bad rap unless it's a J-200. These Taylor 600 series guitars changed everything I ever thought about maple. I'm totally blown away by the sound that comes out of this thing. The highs are sweet and clear but the thing that shocks me is the low end GROWL that this guitar can punch out. I keep playing it and keep loving it more every time. As usual with Taylor, flawless build quality, and the looks are stunning. Two thumbs up!

Amazing

By Jon from Texas on October 11, 2018 Music Background: Hobbyist

I went back and forth on whether to get an 814ce or a 614ce. I liked the way the 814 sounded just a little bit better, but I loved the look of the maple. This was based on the X bracing. I ended up choosing the 614 without even playing one with the new V bracing. I couldn't be happier with my decision. This guitar sounds and looks amazing. As many of the reviews I've read said, it is very responsive to the way you play it. Subtle changes in the way you play are heard. Buy this guitar!
