EVH 5150 Standard Series Electric Guitar - Slime Green Reviews

Solidbody Electric Guitar with Basswood Body, Maple Neck, Maple Fingerboard, 2 Humbucking Pickups, and Floyd Rose Tremolo - Slime Green

High-performance players searching for a high-performance guitar owe it to themselves to get up, grab an EVH 5150 Standard, and rock out. Trust us, you won't want to put it down! Designed by Edward Van Halen himself, this solidbody electric guitar boasts a resonant basswood body, which pairs perfectly with its muscular Wolfgang humbuckers. Thanks to a graphite-reinforced, quartersawn maple neck, you'll enjoy rock-solid stability, while a compound-radius fingerboard enables exceptional speed and comfort. Built to King Edward's exact specifications and intentionally positioned against the guitar's body, the 5150 Standard's dive-bomb-only D-Tuna-equipped Floyd Rose lets you mimic Ed’s signature trem work with ease, along with giving you instant access to Drop D tuning. This axe also has a killswitch for mind-blowing stutter effects and a low-friction volume pot for super-smooth swells. From Main Street to Mean Street, if you strap a 5150 Standard across your shoulder, the cradle will truly rock.

The best superstrat on the market!!!

By Austin G from Warren Mi on April 16, 2024

A while back I was looking for a new guitar to replace my Squier superstrat to a higher quality guitar after playing it for a couple years. I played and tried out a bunch of other guitars from Jackson to Ibanez to Schecter with none of them standing out to me in the moment. I thought I'd hit a dead end until I played this beauty and instantly fell in love with it. The neck profile and rolled fingerboard edges are extremely comfortable on the hand and makes it incredibly easy to move up and down the neck. The Floyd Rose stays in tune very well and the inclusion of the d-tuna is a must need since I like to switch in-between standard and drop D very frequently. The volume pots are excellent and clean up very nicely like one of Eddies guitars. All in all, this is one of the best guitars I've ever played with it even beating out guitars that are double the price. If anyone is thinking about getting one of these guitars, I would absolutely recommend it, you won't be disappointed.

Perfect 80s-ness

By Dave Bass from VERONA, WI on April 2, 2023

Looks, plays and feels great. So 80s it hurts, and that's a good thing. Only one complaint - the trem is setup pulled all the way back to be against the body (the way Eddie wanted it). The problem is the D-tuna bumps against the body when you pull it out. I set up my Floyds to be floating so it's not an issue for me, but just wanted to give fair warning.

A Fun 80's Vibe Guitar with Nice Features

By Barry R. Sparks from Winston-Salem, NC on April 19, 2022 Music Background: Part-time guitarist since early 80's.

I got this 5150 Standard guitar because I was wanting to replace a Charvel San Dimas I had traded months ago for another piece of gear. After it was gone, I realized I really missed having a "super-strat" style guitar to play 80's hair metal on! This guitar scratches that itch perfectly! The jumbo frets are polished and smooth to bend on, the unfinished neck is not sticky, and the profile is very comfortable, comparable to the Charvel's neck, but even better. I used Fast Fret on the Strings before I played it for the first time and when I was done, the fret board looked like I had played on it for 10 years! I don't mind though because it makes it look well loved and played, just like our maple fretboard guitars did throughout the 80's. The Floyd 1000 is good quality without any play or glitchiness in the bar action. (Some of my other Floyd-equipped guitars were plagued by this in the past.) I left this one bottomed out against the body for dive-only action, which is unusual for me because I normally set my trems to float so that I can do pull ups as well as dives. But I am enjoying the tuning stability that dive-only offers, like when you bend one string but want to play a note on a different string for a double-stop harmony. Normally that additional note would be flat because you're bending a string up and causing the floating bridge to tilt forward. But with dive only, this is not an issue. The Kill switch is fun to use - as long as, like any effect, it's not OVERLY used. The pickups sound exactly like the ones I've had in the Wolfgangs I owned previously - very articulate, and clean up well when rolling back the volume. Really love the middle pickup selection (both pickups engaged) for clean tones. These pickups are not extremely hot, but this means you can set the amplifier at a hotter setting and still able to actually hear each note within chords! They just have better clarity than some, and have that mid-range girth to them that was such a staple of Eddie's tone. I am really liking this guitar. It makes me play slightly different and think outside the box. It inspires, and I feel Eddie would be happy to know this. After setting it up to my taste, I had Alexa play the "Out of the Cellar" album by Ratt while I played along with it and I just had a blast with this guitar! The slime green is so cool and I bet I won't be selling this guitar anytime soon. One note... When you get yours, unscrew the strap pin on the upper horn and put a drop of wood glue in the hole, re-screw the pin back on, wipe off the excess, and let dry. Mine, just like others have reported, has come loose just from normal strap movement. But the glue should be the cure. Just do it before the hole gets stripped! Other than this one VERY MINOR point, the guitar really is about as perfect as you would expect from EVH. I can also see getting another Wolfgang in the near future! Thanks for all the great gear and innovation, Edward! And may you rest in peace, sir.
