Rupert Neve Designs Shelford 5052 Microphone Preamp & EQ Reviews
Rupert Neve Designs' Shelford 5052 rocks the definitive 1073 feature set, complete with mic pre, highpass filter, and 3-band inductor EQ. But you also get updated capabilities such as Neve's variable Silk and Texture control and simultaneous pre/post "tape" operation. With its discrete Class A topologies and custom-wound transformers and inductors, Rupert Neve designed the 5052 as a vintage-style channel strip that captures the sonic essence of his classic designs, while overcoming the limitations of 1970s-era technology. Modern design and components, classic Neve sound — have it all with Rupert Neve Designs' Shelford 5052.

Holy ****
Just used two of these bad boys on a live-from-the-studio taping with a Bock 251 on vocals and a Royer 122v on acoustic guitar. Granted, the two mics I used are heavyweights on their own, when I plugged them into the 5052's, I just had to shake my head, grinning ear-to-ear. Tons of beautiful headroom, legendary musical EQ's, and two flavors of silk texture to boot. I'm going to be dreaming of 5088's loaded with these things forever. God save the Neve!
1073 and more
This unit is pricey but amazing. With the power supply (5-way brick) and wooden box (2-way), this unit runs over 3K. It is slightly more expensive than the portico II channel strip; however, it is a 1073 preamp with the EQ of a 1064 and 1073. Also, it has the silk and silk plus options with variable texture. It is an amazing preamp that is thick, warm, colored, punchy, and finished sounding. It is a 1073 with more clean headroom and Rupert's improvements. It is my new "go to" magic box. You'll be blown away.
