Love this bass
Out of dozens of basses in this price range that I checked out my Skyline
44-01 is the best hands down. Build quality, feel, sound, look. I love this bass.
Great Feeling Bass G!
For the money, you are just NOT going to beat out this Lakland model. Very high precision for a model below 1k. Very true all the way up the neck for you players that like to explore the upper registers. Quite a variety of tones, very responsive to your touch.
OH, BTW, the PERFECT case for the majority of Lakland models is Gator ATA Molded Guitar Case, GTSAGTRBASS here at SW. Fits like a glove. That is, unless you want the Lakland case, but they don't get very many good reviews.
Excellent Bass
For the money this Bass costs you get a lot.
Lakeland skyline 44-01
Excellent bass. Easy to play, great tone, great looking!
Destined to be a classic
WOW! I can't believe we got a bass of this quality for this price! These are able to be put side by side with a F precision or a F jazz bass matter of fact with a little tweaking you can pull either sound the best part is it can also produce excellent harmonics and is great for slap but can easily move right back into a walk style the pick ups are outstanding.
Great axe
Better get one of these before Lakland figures out what they have and jack the price up to it's true value. No BS. This is one of , if not the best values out there. The sound, the comfort, the playability are all outstanding. Dead on the money out of the box. I have two of these one natural with maple the other tobacco burst with rosewood. No dead notes. Absolutely amazing instrument.
Great bass
Great bass plays fast the tone the fill ,the set up was perfect I like playing this bass unplugged ,you can't beat the price
The perfect bass
Very versitile sounding bass. Easy to play light and the hardware is awesome. I have played it on my last 4 gigs and everyone ha gave me compliments on how it sounds.
Great 4 string
Excellent 4 string Bass, the active/passive switch is a nice touch for different playing styles.
Lakland 44-01 Maple
I own a Fender American P-Bass, and now wanted a Jazz bass style with active pick-ups. I don't know of any of my friends who are musicians that have a Lakland brand guitar or Bass. So I just did my homework the best I could on-line. Price was fairly important, but I was not interested in going "cheap" either. The more I would compare reviews on quality and sound, it seemed a good choice for the Lakland. Now that I was closer to actually pulling the trigger, I noticed over the last 6 months of researching the Skyline 44-01, most stores had them in their product line, but there were "none" in inventory. Sweetwater had 1. I emailed to check, and sure enough it was time to "get off the fence" if I was going with the Lakland Skyline Natural Maple.
What a surprise when I opened the box. What a great looking/feeling Bass. It was set up with fairly low action too. I plugged it into my Ashdown practice amp and was impressed with the center detent feature on the knobs. It helps keep you from wondering just how far into that tone you are. This Bass comes with Bartolini MK-1 pick-ups and pr-amp. They are everything I was hoping they would be. The real test though was my 1st gig that weekend. I was anxious to play through my bigger/better rig, and in a live setting. I use a GK 700 RB II head, and 2 Genzler Amplification Magellan MG-112T 1x12" Bass cabs. I started with all knobs at center detent, and the amp head with EQ's set at 12 o'clock. I knew right away I made a good choice. Good Grief ! This thing rocks ! The 3 sets we played, I made very little adjustments to the pick-ups. And mostly "per song" adjustments, knowing I wanted a little more growl or low or mid tone changes for the tune. This Lakland over delivered in the best way. And the neck was great, and comfortable right away. My band mates all had taken the time that evening to tell me what a great sounding guitar it was. They were very impressed. It looks great, sounds awesome, and plays as good as my Fender American P Bass. I love em both, but the tone is not comparable. The active pick-ups blow the P-Bass away. But then again, this is why I began my search for an active bass in the 1st place. I scored this at 4.5 only because it doesn't come with a case or even a gig bag. But for under $1000, most do not I'm told.
This was my 1st Sweetwater purchase. I can't say enough about my experience for this on-line purchase.
And as soon as I made the buy, I had a personal phone call (as most of you patrons already know), and this is how it's meant to be at Sweetwater. You get a personal salesman, and product team agent all in your corner ! This will now be my "go to" store for all my music needs. Period. That you Sweetwater !
Lakland
Pretty good bass, I'm loving the value on it, action is great and sounds amazing, however setup was pretty terrible when I bought it, and two of the pots were scratchy. I asked sweetwater to fix it and they fixed one but the second neglected to be fixed. I eventually will have to fix it myself in a few years, but a solid bass nontheless
Nice bass
I bought one of these last summer. I do like the bass. It plays very well, but if I had it to do over again I wouldn't only because there is no case that fits it. Lakland doesn't make cases for any of their instruments (or so they told me) and my search to find one that does fit has been fruitless. As a result, the bass has predictably taken some damage over the past year, to include the knob that adjusts the bass tone. I've learned my lesson. I'll never spend this kind of money for another instrument that doesn't have a hard shell case readily available.
