SKB 3i-4214-66 iSeries Waterproof Strat/Tele Guitar Case Reviews

Waterproof Guitar Case with Wheels - Strat or Tele Body Styles

Keep your loved ones safe! SKB's 3i-4214-66 case offers military-strength protection to your precious Strat or Tele style guitar. Following in the footsteps of SKB's wildly successful MIL-Spec waterproof cases, this reality-proof guitar vault won't just keep out moisture, it'll keep out a flood! The SKB 3i-4214-66 is made of ultra high-strength polypropylene copolymer resin and built to last. Like the rest of the 3i series cases, the 3i-4214-66 shrugs off impact and water while maintaining equal pressure with the outside world. It has built-in wheels, and its corrosion-resistant hardware, comfortable snap-down rubber over-molded cushion grip handles, and patented "trigger release" latch system are definite bonuses as well.

Excellent flight case

By Sweetwater Customer

I purchased this flight case to transport a Fender Modern Player Plus Telecaster from the US to Brazil. The guitar didn't fit perfectly at first, but I was able to create some space at the neck joint inside the case that allowed the guitar to sink fully into the case cavity. It arrived safe and sound at home in Brazil.

This was my second SKB iSeries flight case and I have been happy with both purchases. I will use the SG version of this same flight case for a second time in early 2026. These cases are extremely sturdy. They are heavy, but the installed wheels make traveling between airport gates a little easier.

I would purchase an SKB case again for any model guitar I need to transport via airplane, especially for long-haul international flights.

Purchased this case to ship a guitar across the country and didn't want to risk damage to the factory leather bound wood case.

Doesn't fit Schecter C-7 FR-S Apocalypse, buyer beware

By Craig H. from Porter, TX

Had to return as the inside was so snug the headstock poked through the case material, and then the guitar had a n inch or two of movement within the liner. It was listed as a certified fit case but a drop or two drop in shipping is all it took to poke the hole. Sweetwater made it right and swapped for a Gator case and hopefully the new case will have a better fit as the inside of the gator case is a couple inches longer to support the headstock.

Excellent case

By Terry from Ny
Music Background: Life long hack

Love this case. Chris Cress is a stand up guy. I purchased a g and g case. It didn't close correctly. They sent me another one. That one was worse. The fit and finish was awful. I picked this case. I was never charged for shipping on any of this. He gave me a nice credit. Chris really came through. Sweet water has my respect and loyalty. Thank you!

SKB 3i-4214-66 Start Tele Case

By Doug G. from NY
Music Background: Musician/Engineer/Collector

This is number 18, I have chose them over the Gator and some others to protect my Guitar collection. The preserve Guitars perfectly. Only gripe which is really not a bad thing just more of an inconvenience for me, the newer version added 2 additional latches on ends of case, for me because I store them on sliding shelves I now have to remove the case to open it. And I think the 4 Latches was more than enough to keep case air tight. In any case I highly recommend this over any other water tight TSA Case.

Wow

By Jeffrey D. from Annapolis, MD
Music Background: 40 years pro.

This is a really nice case. It's rugged and beautiful on the inside. However, it is heavier than I'd expected. I'm just glad they put wheels on it for those long walks from baggage claim.

Six is better than Four

By Stacy from S.W.Florida
Music Background: Lifetime musician

I purchased one of this model case a few years ago for my first Strat. That case had 4 latches on one side.
Today I received another of this model case for a "strat" build I recently completed, and was surprised to find SKB has added two more latches - One on each end :)
I didn't think this case could be improved, but the good folks @ SKB proved me wrong.
For quality, shipping, and a great fit you just can't beat the combo of SKB and Sweetwater.

Great! But..

By SurlyB from Arizona
Music Background: Recording musician..

Read the reviews carefully!! Seems to be mostly Stratocaster owners. I did research for a Fender, universal, rock solid, flight case, for a couple hours for a few days before choosing this case for some upcoming studio work halfway across the country. I'll be flying. A lot. This case is great for an American made Fender Stratocaster! Fits perfect! It does not work seamlessly tho for an American made Fender Telecaster!! As advertised..The SKB company failed to make a cavity for the bottom tone control knob! No way am I going to force the lid closed on my Telecaster to accommodate this problem! For $... this shouldn't be an issue with this case! It is a well made flight case! Love everything else about it! Not worried about flying with with my studio guitars in this case!!! But, off to my garage to find a 3/4inch drill bit to make a cavity for the Telecaster tone control..dumb..

iSeries is Awesome

By Steve S.
Music Background: Guitar Instruction Motivator

I fly frequently, and when they are short domestic flights, I always have 2 options with my guitar:
1. Bring my guitar in a softshell and hope it fits in an overhead (so they don"t put it under the plane for the flight)
2. Bring my guitar in heavy road case and check it

(A hardhell doesn"t fit it most overheads, and often, they don"t have room to keep them on the plane, but a softshell has a chance, but if you have to check it at the gate because the plane is small, it doesn"t have much protection during the flight)

While I would rather check it when I arrive for my flight (so I don"t have to stress about whether my guitar gets on the plane or not), the heavy road cases are tough to carry through my trip with all my other luggage.

On my flight to GearFest 2018 at Sweetwater, I sat next to someone from Line6, and he was telling me about the iSeries Cases from SKB, and how his team uses them everywhere they fly (it also has wheels, by the way), so I purchased one from Evan Nieman while at GearFest.
Awesome!

Best purchase I have made in a long time! Right around 20 pounds, sturdy, tight fit for my guitar, and wheels, this is perfect.

Worth Every Penny

By Sweetwater Customer from Tampa, FL
Music Background: Professional player

I have the SKB i-Series 3i-3614-6B-L (39"x17"x7") case to use for my 1960 Fender Stringmaster doubleneck steel guitar. I bought it for a trip to Mexico City to play a concert. Frankly, I was more worried about it just making it to the destination far more than I was from any damage to the steel from being battered around by careless baggage handlers! These cases are incredible. While bulkier than I'd use on local gigs (use a gig bag for most local stuff), for any serious road touring, and ESPECIALLY flying, these are worth every penny of investment to protect the tools of your trade. They are Military Spec, waterproof and built to last. I've since used mine to fly many more times, and the only damage I ever had was when the Totally Stuporous Airheads opened it up, took OUT the guitar (for whatever reason, I have no idea), and must have dropped it, bending my 3-way switch to one side. Fortunately, I bent it back straight, and it sill worked! Are you flying? Gonna CHECK your guitar? BUY ONE OF THESE CASES.

It's A Beast!

By Sacalait from South Louisiana
Music Background: Producer/Arranger/Guitarist/Engineer

I was booked to tour Russia in June/July 2017. I knew I'd be flying a lot. So I opted to buy this particular case to protect the only guitar I'd be able to bring- my American G&L ASAT. After getting the case in and checking it out, I was confident I wouldn't have to be concerned about the guitar getting treated badly by the airline companies.

After flying on ten different planes for that tour the guitar was in perfect condition when I got home. The case was a bit scratched and bruised on the outside but that's the point- the case takes the licks, not the guitar. It's a little heavy but has wheels and three handles. I rolled it around the airports and to the gigs while on the tour. If you need mission-critical protection for your instrument while flying, I'd highly recommend this case.

Great for Strat, Not for Telie

By Stacy C. from SW Fla
Music Background: Lifetime Guitarist

This is a great case for Strats. Fits snug, closes snug, and is uber sturdy. I purchased this case primarily for my Strat and occasional use with my Telie. When used with a Strat I couldn't be Happier. Use with a Telie is another story. The body cavity is overly tight ( scarily so) an when you close the lid, it will not close without force. I discovered this is due to the control recesses in the lid NOT clearing the Telie's tone control. Oh, and if you are looking to use this case for a Strat copy with the "hockey stick" headstock, forget it.

SKB - Gorilla Proof

By John B. from Rochester, NY

If you don't play everyday you won't get better - plain and simple.

I fly a lot for work — my original Fender issue Strat hard case was fine for checked luggage for about three trips, then the corners were broken from rough handling. Time to shop for a more rugged case.

Enter SKG - not the least expensive, but what's peace of mind worth to you when you hand your favorite axe over to the airlines? Not the lightest, but what's the value of knowing not matter what baggage handler/gorilla, who's not having a good day by the time your guitar come down the belt, simply can't hurt your beloved?

I almost dare Delta to hurt my Strat now.
Best money I've spent since the guitar itself.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED (But it is heavy)

Fantastic Case!

By Steve from Austin, TX

I have two of these cases, one for my Tele, and one for my acoustic. Both have now been on multiple overseas flights, and they all performed flawlessly! Love the room for accessories, cables, etc... all while being well under-weight for flying. SKB has done an amazing job with these cases, and should be proud!

Great case, won't be the last

By WM
Music Background: playing on and off since 1963

Great case. Could use two more latches, one at each end like their acoustic cases have, but in all a very good case. The case has a 'Joe and the Volcano' level of integrity (ref. to his steamer trunk).

Hinges and latches make this case. The contoured guitar cavity is good, and is pretty much isolated from the storage part of the case, allowing room for a few pedals.

Top Notch Guitar Case !!!

By VICARI from Irvine, CA
Music Background: HOBBYIST for more than 30yrs

I have bought this guitar case for my brand new Fender Strat by Roland also from Sweetwater. This guitar case is PERFECT (fits my Fender Strat like a custom made glove)...not to mention the protection. If you are looking for the best guitar case (quality, heavy duty "armor") for your Strat then this is the ULTIMATE!!! Can possibly last for more than 200 yrs...

Reduces your worries

By Dennis F. from United States
Music Background: hobbyist

Let's face it, when you put your baby into the hands of the airlines or FEDEX/UPS - there is a high level of concern that your baby may just get molested....Anyone see the YouTube "United Broke My Guitar"??? Well with this case you need not worry. They can drive a truck across it - and I am sure it will happen - and not have to worry - baby will be protected. What is peace of mind worth??? Yes, this thing costs more than other cases - but no other case gives you the peace of mind this one does.

Poor Interior Construction

By Tim K. from United States
Music Background: Serious Hobbyist Guitarist

I wanted to love this case. Unfortunately, for all the work they put into the exterior, the cheap styrofoam construction under the neck (the most important part) is more solid in a styrofoam water cooler. Mine broke easily. I cannot believe that SKB would do such a terrible job on this given the solid structure they made around the body of the guitar. I literally planned on buying three more of these cases to protect my prized guitars--unfortunately, the factory hard shell case came with stronger neck support. I am extraordinarily disappointed. I very much hope that SKB fixes this so that future buyers won't discover this defect the hard way.

The Best Protection for a prized Guitar

By Bill from Chicago IL
Music Background: 40 yrs playing

This case is cool not much heavier than a stock fender case but protection. This case is tough I think it could withstand almost ant impact.
but also with handy wheel so you don't need to carry all the time. Also large opening that hard to see in picture for you accessories . If you want a great case get this one.

Rugged

By Kevin E. from Michigan
Music Background: Pro Musician

Great protection for your guitar......It's a little bulky and heavy, but I am willing to give up carrying a lighter weight case for better protection, as I am very protective of my guitars. I don't think you can find a case with better protection.

Nice case,not a tight fit.

By Sweetwater Customer
Music Background: Semi-Pro guitarist, live and stuido

This is a great case. I only have one complaint. The guitar is not completely snug when caseis closed. There is a little bit of movement which I was not expecting. So I added a little bit of bubble wrap and it was nice a tight. Went to Taiwan and back with no issues.

The best protection for my PRS EVER!

By Paul D. from Laguna Hills, CA
Music Background: Semi-Pro Musician and Pro Luthier

I cannot believe just how incredibly durable and protective this case truly is. I'm currently using it to transport my PRS McCarty and i couldn't imagine ever transporting my PRS in anything else ever again. Love the fact that i don't have to carry it everywhere. Wheels on a guitar case are better than sliced bread. Great job SKB...now if you could only make one for my Taylor acoustic I'd be set.
