Rickenbacker 360/12 12-string Electric Guitar - Fireglo Reviews

12-string Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar with Maple Body and Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, 2 Single-coil Pickups, and Parallel-mono Output - Fireglo

The Rickenbacker 360/12. With its rounded horns, contoured top edge that rolls into back binding, innovative solid/slotted headstock design, and iconic shark fin fingerboard inlays, there’s no mistaking it for anything else. And then there’s the sound: from the Beatles to the Byrds, you’ve heard that unmistakable jangle on countless classic recordings. This venerable 12-string semi-hollowbody electric guitar has seen changes in the ensuing half-century, and today’s model is more playable and awesome-sounding than ever. One of the coolest upgrades is the Rick-O-Sound dual-mono output that sends each of the vintage-inspired High Gain pickups to its own amplifier, or straight into a recording medium for instant stereo guitar. The Rick 360/12 was beloved by artists such as George Harrison and Roger McGuinn for its shimmering chord voicings, and Sweetwater is sure contemporary players will savor its inimitable tone as well.

5 stars after some tweets

What a great guitar. I Love it. Bridge replacement is a must how ever. I had Sweetwater Techs put on a proper 12 string bridge and it does wonders . The intonation is now as spot on as I have ever heard and I do like the high output pickups that come on the modern 360/12. I think it helps boost the treble which you had to do on the old ones with a Texas Ranger or some other kind of Treble Boost. It plays wonderfully. The sound is what you would expect . Jangly 12 string goodness
I love it.

Must have a 12 post bridge installed

By Jay from Tucson, AZ on January 14, 2022 Music Background: Played 12 strings for many years, now have a Martin J-40-12.

I bought one of the beautiful walnut 360/12s. It is insane that Rickenbacker does not offer the 12 post bridge THEY SELL as an option on all their 12 strings. One cannot put 2 strings of different diameter, tuned an octave apart, on the same post.
If you want to play notes and cords that are not painfully out of tune above the forth fret you must get Sweetwater to do what they did for me, install the 12 post bridge. I have attached a photo of how mine had to he adjusted. The two top strings are both the same string, so a 10 post bridge would be the best solution.
And why no dots on the 24th fret marking the 2nd octave fret?

Anyway it sounds great all the way up the neck, but only if you do the above.

Nothing else like it

The Ric 360/12 is the cream of the crop of electric 12 strings. No other guitar sounds like it. I've had 3 of them, the most recent an early 2000s model in gorgeous fireglo. Their crystalline chime can be heard on countless records and is so easily recognizable. Drop-dead gorgeous finish and flawless workmanship. All that said, I don't give it 5 stars for a couple reasons. First, these are not set up well, if at all, by the factory, which is inexcusable given the price, and they are a bit of a challenge to do so. My first two had to be retrofitted with the factory's 12-saddle bridge to get even close to decent intonation. My latest is OK, although not perfect, with the OEM bridge. Additionally, the neck is really thin: you can't have any fingernails and it can be difficult for anyone with large fingers. One way I've found to increase the ability to intonate is to use the thinist wound string for the low "G" position, typically .017, rather than a plain string. I don't know why, but it does help and I found that to be true on all 3 of mine. But despite these drawbacks, the sound is to die for.
