Rickenbacker 330 Thinline Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar - Mapleglo Reviews

Semi-hollowbody Electric Guitar with Maple Body and Neck, Rosewood Fingerboard, 2 Hi-gain Single-coil Pickups, and Mono Output- Mapleglo

The Rickenbacker Model 330 is your chance to take a page from rock 'n' roll's playbook. These iconic guitars, with their distinctive looks and jangly tones, have found their way into the hands of the Who to R.E.M., Jimmy Page to Tom Petty, the Smiths to Radiohead. Today's 330 features the hotter Hi-gain pickups and a 21-fret fingerboard for a spankier sound and hotter overdrive characteristics. Back in full effect are the classic lightweight semi-acoustic body, cat's eye soundhole, and "R" tailpiece.

I’m very impressed.

By Darrell Sallee from OH on December 1, 2023 Music Background: Been playing since 1964

I'm a Strat player, I've never trusted any other guitar.
But this Rick may change my mind about how Rickenbacker is perceived as a one trick pony.
I took it to my gig last night. And my Strat. I was floored
By the tone and super cool feel of the neck . 21 frets make a difference. It was like I could handle like an acoustic but with 'that sound' that is on so many recordings. I ended up playing it most of the night.
The strings are tight but not stiff, and you can really dig
In and it holds tune. Love the pickups (Hi Gain)
I'm gonna ride one into the sunset

330 Mapleglo

By Sweetwater Customer on December 13, 2022

My first Ric, Very impressed a keeper for sure. I took a leap of faith as I never touched one before buying mine on Black Friday. So happy with the playability and tones, the build quality is excellent. I believe this is becoming My favorite guitar, I know this as I have sold off 2 guitars after receiving this!

Really cool guitar

By Doug from Billerica Ma on May 25, 2022 Music Background: 43 years playing hobby now

I just got this from SW. Patrick Lance did a great job as always. First off it sounds great through my fender twin! So smooth and silky also great Beatles sound and that '60's Lovin' Spoonfull sound. I am or was mostly a hard rock guitarist and play high end Strats and Les Pauls. This guitar is a great divergence from that path. Fit and finish is spectacular and the playability is top notch. I have a cat that is always happy and lovable, if he were a guitar he would be this one. It is fun to play plain and simple. I love how clear and smooth chords sound and the solos have that '60's sound and feel. I would highly recommend buying one of these for your collection as it is outstanding! Again the vibe from this guitar is a happy one also the finish is spotless and sooooo cool.

This Rickenbacker is for Everyone.

By Patrick B. from Illinois on April 12, 2022

This Mapleglo is perfect because it has a little bit of all the well-known Rickenbacker players of the 1960's, in one. It has everything I've wanted in a Ric, modern smooth-turning tuners, high-gain pickups and a non-lacquered fingerboard make it fun and easy to play. Many people complain that Rickenbackers are hard to play. This 330 will change their minds.

Thank you Erik Bothwell for setting me up with one.

Best guitar I’ve ever owned

By Noah on December 25, 2021

This is the best guitar I've ever owned. Great 60's sound with a surprisingly comfortable neck and body. I was a little worried about the thickness of the neck but it is amazing. Overall phenomenal high quality guitar that I do not regret buying.

Speechless

Absolutely the most gorgeous versatile perfect guitar I have ever played. I regret the years playing anything but this guitar and I've only spent three hours with it. I'm not joking anyone who thinks this is a one trick pony doesn't know anything. Does it distort? You bet. Better than any thing out there. I play out of a mesa rectoverb I promise you my tone is next level. After about 30 gibsons and fenders over the past 20 years never again. Literally going to pawn off some more equipment to get one more in another color. Perfect actual 60s vintage neck. I'm In heaven. I want to thank Tom Koch for getting this order done so simply and quickly followed by the worlds fastest shipping. I'm a changed man at 35 years old glad I discovered this now. Don't wait buy it now.

New Love

One of the easiest, smoothest guitars I ever played. I love the sound hooked up to my Marshall 100

Great Guitar

Rickenbacker 330 Kudos

By Bill Henk from Wisconsin on August 27, 2019 Music Background: Advanced Amateur

My new Rickenbacker 330 Thinline Mapleglo electric guitar arrived in perfect shape. I couldn't be happier with it. The instrument basically replaces the same model I owned in the late 60's when I was in a band, but had to sell later to make ends meet. It looks, plays and sounds great. Having it in my hands felt like reuniting with an old friend, only the friend, particularly its electronics, has improved over time. And my sales engineer, Aaron, has consistently exhibited outstanding customer service, so I'll definitely continue to look to Sweetwater as a top option for my musical gear needs.

My best impulse buy

By J on October 2, 2018 Music Background: Hobbyist

I got this Rickenbacker 330 as a demo, on a yellow tag deal and I knew I would kick myself for years if I let it get away. It is an excellent guitar. If you want a Rickenbacker you probably know the perks. A lot of famous people played one (Harrison, Petty, etc). You want to recreate those sounds and get that classic jangle. There isn't anything quite like it. You wont be disappointed in that regard. However, I will say it will not be for everyone in terms of playing it. It has a different feel playing it compared to any other one I have played. You wont know if you like it until you get it in your hands on it. Its almost like playing an acoustic since its bulky. The neck was surprisingly thin but no complaints there. The neck and strings on it are higher than I thought. Not the action on the neck but just how high they are from the body. Personally I loved it after I got used to everything, just trying to describe my thoughts on it.

The Down and Dirty on the Ric 330

By Russ from Burlington VT on November 13, 2017 Music Background: been playing since 1973

I will start by saying that I have been playing a Strat for a very long time so that is what I am used to. I saw this Ric 330 demo and decided to take a chance. I have always loved hearing that "Ric" sound by Peter Buck, Mike Campbell, Tom Petty, Beatles, Johnny Marr ( playing REM's "Radio Free Europe" loses something on a Strat). So I ordered it. My Sweetwater sales/wizard guy Jeff Barnett got it in the mail quick and it arrived 2 days later.

Upon opening and inspecting the guitar for the finish defects that made this guitar a "demo" I found that with the high gloss black finish they were virtually invisible. I was struck by the build quality of this guitar. It also felt like an alien as I am used to my Strat. It took a little getting used to Rickenbacker's volume/tone knob layout and getting the hang of the 5th knob ( blending both pups together). I have had this guitar for a few months now and I must admit I was going to send it back at first (it was so beautiful I was afraid of dinging it or even getting a fingerprint on it) but spent more time playing it and getting the feel. I play this thru my Vox AC10 or limited edition "Fudge Brownie" Princeton and it sounds great. The high gain pups are not the traditional "toaster" pups but they scream when pushed and clean up when dialed back. That famous Ric chime is all there and it is glorious. Put this guitar thru a Big Muff or Fulltone OCD and it is creamy.

I thought at first this guitar would be a one trick pony but after spending time with the pick ups and blend and tone knobs there is a ton of tone in here.

If you are considering a Ric I would say take a 330 for a ride , you may never give it back.

Great Addition

I bought this in Maple Glo to compliment my collection of guitars ("68 tele, Gretsch 5622, and American Professional tele). Impressive looking and great sounds. Nice action and a pleasure to play
