Dangerous Music 2-BUS+ Analog Summing Mixer Reviews

16 x 2 Analog Summing Mixer with Harmonic Distortion Generator, FET Limiter, Variable Stereo Transformers, and Stereo Insert

The Dangerous Music 2-BUS+ is a 2U, 16-channel analog summing mixer with both XLR and D-sub inputs. It raises the bar on its legendary 2-BUS predecessor with even lower crosstalk, distortion, and noise-floor performance, along with stunningly precise soundstaging and center focus. Dangerous spent over two years developing three onboard audio processors that, with a simple push of a button and twist of a knob, add tone and color to your stems or across your entire mix directly from the 2-BUS+. The 2-BUS+ is smartly designed, extremely useful, and sounds incredible.

Fantastic Summer

By Chacra6 S. from Temecula
Music Background: Audio Engineer

Every summing mixer is a little different and the 2-Bus+ brings an interesting flavor to the table. If you want to hear it, listen to Billie Eilish's biggest album or the drums on anything mixed by Luca Pretolesi. It has a dark grit that is almost scratchity to the ear. For the price a Rupert Neve summing mixer should definitely be considered, but the color modules here on the Dangerous make it hard to pass on. Ask for Erik Bothwell if you're considering buying it, he's the best!

Absolutely Incredible!!!

By Eddie G. from L.A
Music Background: Head Composer/Producer

I was on the fence about this for about a year. I put in a lot of work and dedicate myself to this craft in a very real way. I knew to get a PRO and Polished sound that I was going to have to invest in my business and I am so glad that I did.

What a box!

By Jesus T. from Orlando,Fl
Music Background: Mastering Eng

I normally don't write reviews, but at a given price that real people and real scenarios reviews should help others into making a big commitment.
I am a mastering engineer and my workflow is a little different due to source material and processing flow.
Since day 1, this unit is on every track that gets either mixed or mastered in a some way.

First I needed clean gain stage and Dangerous do know how to make those 6db gain to be extremely useful and clean. I don't get to many stem projects, but it is a delightful workflow when I get them and I run them true this device.

On a summing scenario it all make sense and "glue-ed" in terms of that stems are no longer individual instrumentation and it is all a coherent source.

The fun useful stuff is with the color section. Like I said, I get material that is "shy ITB" sound and need a little help to be next to a professional mix and this knobs gets used all the time weather they are engaged at 0 or at some level.

The harmonic section gets a nice hump on the low end area and with acoustic material this does adds a fullness that I can avoid to add with other processing ITB, hence I do a little less in digital and shape the overall sound by this knobs.

The Paralimiter section is a feature that I don't use much, but with source that needs more energy this just do the work again, without using ITB tools, specially acoustical instrumentation like harps, wind and esoteric kind. Dont push it to hard, it will do the job if the mix balance is there.

The Xformer is what gets the most use, with shy mixes it does wonders to the top end clarity, but with harsh mixes I have no need to engage it since I have to deal with HF. but the quality of this knob is serious.

lastly I only have 1 issue is that the power socket is not tight so at random times it has come lose.

This unit is what I needed to keep a minimalist desk with the right tools.

THAT ABOUT SUMS IT UP

By Imua G. from Hawaii
Music Background: Music coming out of Hawaii

Been recording and mixing a long time and heard the tales so I decided to invest in my future and boy am I happy as a lark. With the + features it's as if there's three pieces of outboard gear attached to it. I also bought the BAX EQ for the ext insert. AND the convert 8. Big fan of Dangerous, also running the source as my DAC. Any who after eating saimin for the next ten years so I can pay all this stuff off, I would say two things.

1. Get it, it's worth it.
2. Saimin get's old, but so does doing the same things over and over to try to achieve something that's not there. I'm talking about letting those outputs breathe. Take a breath. Too much info in the stereo buss is like cramming all classes on a school bus.

I will say that I'm only using channels 9 - 16 because out of my Apollo Quad, those outs are not as 'bananas' as Fab Dupont says. Noticeable difference from the convert 8.

Bottom line, I can get to the end of the mix quicker without having to load up my mix buss with everybody. There is a definition, punch, wideness about it that feels good compared to the standard out 1-2.

But don't take my word, go to Costco and stack up on the Saimin packages so you can get it!

Fantastic Solution

By Rick B. from Twin Cities, MN
Music Background: Engineer, producer, product specialist

The designers of this box did a bang up job of creating a superior quality solution. The isolation per stem is outstanding. The transformer, harmonics and parallel limiter features are awesome, Sure, there are other (less expensive) OTB mix box solutions out there, but I chose the 2-BUS+ for the master insert, and other features I just mentioned. If you're looking to mix OTB, give the 2-BUS+ serious consideration. The quality and performance are amazing. I'm very happy with my choice.

Thanks Drew Foster

By Wayne from Baltimore

Called my Sweetwater rep asking his opinion on the Burl Summing unit. He steered me towards the Dangerous 2 bus+ and wow. What a unit. I’ve been using an OTB16 and have been pretty satisfied but was looking for a little something more. I would describe the sound as big, clear, and open. The limiter and harmonics are a very clever design but the transformer, that’s special, imo. Subtle yet noticeable when taking out. One of my best purchases in a good while. My experience with Drew has been an absolute pleasure. Great to talk gear with him too......

The Best investment you will ever make.

By James M. from Australia
Music Background: DJ Producer/Singer

I have Neumann M149 with a Vintech X73i sounds great but even with this combo you still get that digital harshness and end up using heaps of plugins to make the sound smooth and still are not 100% happy with the sound,
The Dangerous Analog signal path eliminates digital harshness and your Vocal will sound smooth with hardly any plugins its truly amazing, Also helps you Bass and Kick to sound right with out Muddying up your Music,
This is the best investment I have ever made, I use this with my D box as well,
Know I can produce Music like the big Boys.

DANGEROUS HEIGHTS

By MIGUEL C.
Music Background: Pannist, Music Teacher, Producer, Arranger.

This box is so sweet it will take you to new heights. It's like the secret weapon in my arsenal. I produce in the box in logic x and then mix down with a combination of my 2-BUS+ and Dangerous D-box summing through 24 outputs. Man the sound is fabulous and with the added transformer knob, harmonic distortion etc. there is just a liveliness now to my mixes.
The knobs on this box feels firm and the box look really nice.
This gear combined with my apollo 16 black and quad is powerful. I don't need anything again to carve out great mixes except for maybe an outboard comp which the D-BUS+ has an insert for.
