As they should be
No way around it, great product from Fender, perfect for the bass VI, not sure why these are not on it from the sales floor. They bring a better feel while playing and resolve any intonation on the 6th string the bass VI might have. My bass VI did not have an issue, but after a few days of playing I figured I bought them, slap them on, great move as it did improve the feel all round and a better sound and performance for the 6th string. Thanks to all the folks who shared this as a first improvement to a bass VI.
The Best
This set will MAKE a Bass VI playable. The factory E1 string is only 80-something gauge, and Ernie Ball and D'Addario strings are also 80-something gauge. That is far too light for E1. In fact, normal basses use 85 for the A1. You need something larger for that E1, and this set is EXACTLY what you need.
No wonder basses use 100 gauge for E1. It works. If you use this set, it will unlock what a Bass VI is supposed to be.
Best of all, this set is not $ like the LaBella set.
Very happy
String tension is way better with these. No more fret rattles.
Cool strings basically a Bass VI version of a Balanced Light set.
It's interesting that they've worked around the Floppy Low E issue by bumping the gauges of the 3 lowest strings & now the Lowest string is a 100 which is a common gauge for Bass Guitar. Innovations & improved formulas go together as a team.
Perfect strings for the bass vi
Floppy E no more. If you've got a bass vi, get these strings. Perfect tension, feel, and tone. Just got done with a gig. Love my Squier bass VI even more.
Exactly what I was looking for.
No more floppy low E. All the same gauge strings as a standard four string bass for low strings. Has that Fender bass string tone that you can't get anywhere else. Good price. Don't know why a Bass VI doesn't come strung with these to begin with. No complaints.
Finally, correct Bass VI strings
I am writing in reference to the new, white package of Fender Bass VI strings. This set is not the too-thin strings the other reviewer is complaining about but a newly made, much thicker set of strings. Finally, a low E string thick enough to intonate correctly and have correct tension. These are the best Bass VI strings to date, I've played Fender's 90s set and the LaBella strings. The number one issue with Bass VI strings is string gauge, and this one gets it right. You can pay twice as much for the LaBella's, but you will get a 0.095 low E, not the 0.100 low E this set contains. That may not sound like much, but it makes a huge difference at the 30" scale of the Bass VI.
.024, .034, .044, .065, .080, .100 Set is better, not perfect though
The .100" low E is so much better than the .084 that Fender used to offer and D'Addario still offers. My Squier VI actually sounds like a bass now! However, the G, B and high E strings are the same size as the .024-.084 set. The difference in gauge between the D and G string of .021" makes the strings feel a bit awkward, but the do sound fairly balanced through an amp. Overall, they are much better than the .024-.084 strings.
Ibanez Crossover SCR6/ Bass VI
The string length works perfectly with the stock Ibanez SCR6 without bunching, being questionably short, or having to unwind a portion.
They sound great and intonate nicely, even down to drop d on this 30" scale VI. Their gauges are a little on the light side for my taste, but for a ready-to-order bass VI set with an E over .084, it's a small victory.
I've had them on for a month and they're still glassy. Classy. Time will tell, but I'm not unimpressed out of the gate.
I might be back to raise this score to a 5/5 if these hold up.
Big Mistake!
Yet another in a string of mistakes Fender made with this new VI. They should have made these strings in a more traditional .095 > 025 stainless format like they used to. The .084, etc. are way too light for a decent bass sound. In fact, they could have made the E a .105 or so. BTW, the PSVI CAN definitely take these heavier gauges. Many owners have switched to the LaBella Bass VI flats and rounds with success. And D'Addario, LaBella and Circle K now let you make up your own custom set at very little additional cost.
If you do like these strings be aware that these are probably just relabeled D'Addario XL156 Bass VI Strings anyway. So, get what brand is cheapest.
